In Memoriam video that was shown during the 30th Anniversary of Gettysburg celebration weekend, commemorating the cast and crew from the film that are no longer with us.
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Wow! It's just amazing how many people involved in this "greatest movie ever" about the "greatest battle ever" during the Civil War have sadly passed on. I purchased the movie about 15 years ago and probably watch it 3-4 times every year without fail. Still as good today as it was in 1993. 👍👍

The one death that shocked me the most was the late Richard Jordan's😮💯 I had no idea he was terminally ill with brain cancer when he portrayed Brig. Gen. Lewis Armistead in Gettysburg. He really put his heart & soul into that final performance. R.I.P 😇❤

@@Tomatohater64 Seemingly so, sir. Most of them were by natural causes, however. The only one I know of that was for a fact an accidental death was the late Royce Applegate's demise being he died of smoke inhalation in a house fire on New Year's Day of '03 in his native Texas💯 He was Brig. Gen Jimmy Kemper in Gettysburg

I can't thank everyone involved enough for this wonderful film. No CGI, no fictional stuff, just the heroic stories of these men during the devastating Battle of Gettysburg. All this with thousands of volunteer reenactors on the original battlefield. A unique masterpiece.

Few movies have ever touched my heart the way GETTYSBURG touched me. Not only was it well done but it made the Civil War real to me in a very personal way. My great-great Grandfather Tate fought in the Civil War. He was wounded 3 different times and always went willingly back to fight for the cause. After the 3rd injury they released him because his leg wound was just too severe.I never met him but I like to think that he was like the men portrayed in GETTSYBURG. Those who fought in the Civil War regardless of which side they were on were ALL heroes as far as Inam concerned. May they rest in peace.

Exactly what I was thinking. I wonder if they will ever try to do a remake with new cast members, maybe get it even more realistic. We could use a new generation to start getting interested in the civil war and remember our history, both blue grey and red

I want to add: Terrance Lee Daley , He and Brian Pohanka were my mentors in Duryees Zouaves, 5th NYVI. Terry may not have been in this production but he was instrumental in making us Zouaves into an authentic unit. RIP TERRY AND BRIAN you left us way too soon and left your Zouave family with forever memories. HUZZAH 5TH CORPS.

And Shelby Foote died less than two weeks later. Foote didn't have anything to do with the film, but it was quite the one-two punch to Civil War buffs everywhere. Pohanka served as an officer of a Zouave reenacting unit from New York. I was a reenactor in another National Regiment unit, meaning our groups often were placed in line with each other at battle reenactments. I never got to speak with him one-on-one, but it was an amazing experience just to see and hear him on the field and in camp. He was so clearly passionate about history, making it all the more saddening to hear about his passing.

So many losses...so many great performances. The movie never gets old. Thank God there was no CGI, only inspired performances by both well--known and not-so-well-known actors, augmented by a massive cast of dedicated re-enactors. The result was a movie both sweeping and personal in scope. Hollywood ignored a great historical, cinematic treasure.

This film is the reason I visited Gettysburg for the last two years. While at the Visitors Center, I learned my great-great-grandfather died in Maryland as a Confederate prisoner of war two weeks after the end of the war. Another ancestor, who was a distant family cousin, fought at Gettysburg with a Pennsylvania unit. I will continue to visit Gettysburg annually as long as I can.

Overall, a great movie. There are some scenes I could have done without, and parts of the book I wish were included (most of all, the council of war in Meade's headquarters) but it still remains one of my favorites. Thank you Ted Turner and all who made this movie possible.

Brian had the skillset and knowledge to portray and lead. We were always mindful of his knowledge since he wrote a lot for Time Life. He was agreat story teller in camp, full of details that we were unaware of. I'm 75 and he taught me bayonet drill when l was thirty at COLVIN RUN, will never forget his patience.

Bickering comments as to the number of unfortunates who have passed away over thirty years are not necessary. The plain fact is that most of us have not kept up with the names associated with this great production , who have sadly passed on and therefore we are shocked to now find out the truth.....I know I am !...as an aside...I was a Combat Medic and Surgical Tech with the First Army MEDDAC Dept Surgery and CMS during the height of Vn Era War...we lost friends in numbers that were mind numbing .and still have to deal with same...it does not go away .db Disabled Vn Era Vet.

The Battle of Gettysburg was such a pivotal moment in the Civil War and combined with Vicksburg sealed the fate of the Confederacy Though had George Meade pursued the Army of Northern Virginia more aggressively after Lee had withdrawn back towards Virginia perhaps could have ended the Civil War earlier ?

I was a re-enatctor in the film (you can see me at the High Water Mark of Pickett's Charge). Turner Productions was very messy in their planning; MANY guys had taken their yearly vacation time to accomplish this thing, only to be left standing around day after day after day while Production managers hemmed and hawed and wasted time, with Jane Fonda traipsing around in a Confederate officer's hat. Towards the end, most of the real re-enactors had gone home, and the directors were left scrambling to fill-in the leftover scenes. In all, I think the productionn was WEAK; there is NO blood in the movie, the beards are super fake, and Martin Sheene couldn't ride a horse to save his life.

Bob Duvall did a BETTER JOB IMHO. I wish they would have given EQUAL TIME to the UNION OFFICETRS and developed Characters like Meade, Kelly, Father Corby, O'Roerck (sp) Buford, Farnsworth, Warren, Strong Vincent etc. Too much Confederate bias, l think because of Turners influence.

What about Hazlett 's battery, that saved the UNION flank ? Day 3 was just as important than ever with cavalry action and the defense of Culp's HILLS(plural). Maybe they need to make a sequel Highlighting those HEROIC aspects of Lee's overall DEFEAT!!!!
