The Glock G19 Gen 5 pistol in 9mm Luger is ideal for a more versatile role due to its reduced dimensions. The new frame design without finger grooves still allows to instantly customize its grip to accommodate any hand size by mounting the different back straps. The reversible magazine catch and ambidextrous slide stop lever make it ideal for left and right-handed shooters. The rifling and the crown of the barrel were slightly modified for increased precision.

I still bought another Gen 3 G19 after handling the Gen 5 at the shop. I own all Gen 3. The dimensions on the Gen 3 are more to my liking and I like the 30+ years of proven durability of the polygonal rifling. Any G19 is a buy really however. Whether it is a Gen 2, 3, 4 or 5 you cannot go wrong on a G19.

The removal of the finger groves is something that I have been waiting for on the G19. The finger grooves would fall in the wrong place for me to get a comfortable grip on the G19. What I can't understand is why they put the U shaped notch back into the frame at the bottom front of the magwell like the Gen 1 and 2 Glocks.

Yes Thank you for mentioning the new 3 piece trigger assembly that compresses a spring within the trigger housing, compared to a single stretching spring of previous generations. I thought that more pieces would led to a higher failure rate. I tested my G19 5 by completing removing the 3 piece trigger mechanism in the housing, and was surprised that the pistol still functioned! Simple reliable durable design.

People went crazy buying the Hogue slip on grips for their Gen 1 and 2 Glocks. It was the craze during the 90's. Everyone wanted finger grooves on everything. So Glock listened to its customers and built them in on the Gen 3. People were happy. Just like every other fad the finger grooves have gone out of style. People are now hating on Glock for a feature that was demanded by the masses. We have come full circle back to the flat front strap. I am seeing the same trend in the making with the front serrations. You can't be a tacticool tier 1 operator unless you press check your firearm. So people are bashing Glock for not having front serrations just like they did when they didn't have finger grooves. Glock will and has supplied front serrations because of this. But years from now when the press check craze dies off and people complain about them being useless you will see them bashing Glock and whining about them needing to remove them just like they are doing with the finger grooves. It's a never ending cycle when it comes to consumers.

Bought my 19 g 4 a year ago. Shoot it a couple times a week. Keep collecting guys, and you can own the Glock Gen 2,400! :) I HOPE you guys got a great price for your gen 4 at least. Don't know how the NEW rifling will change my shots. Or will it? I REALLY WISH GlOCK had adjusted the shape of the trigger guard a little bit. I have smaller hands, and with every shot the recoil bruises my knuckle. Last year, I test fired ALL the hand guns recommended for ladies. At every distance in a 25 yard indoor range, the Glock 19 gen 4 was most consistent and had the best marks on the targets. Haven't been sorry once on my choice of weapon.

very disappointing that they got rid of the finger grooves up front... would be cool if they could make a swap able front strap so you could have finger grooves if wanted. Ive grown to love guns with finger grooves as they force me to put my hand in the same position every time. Guess ill be sticking with my gen 3 for a while... :(

I've owned a Gen4 G19 for years. Why you guys so intent on buying a new one and dumping your olds? The G19 Gen4 is not necessarily inferior because it's older than the latest thing, and it's certainly one of the most capable pistols on Earth. Personally, I'd like to just have both :D

Austin Caruthers it's actually smart if you think about it. If you use it as your carry gun, you always have a backup. I am keeping my gen 4 for this purpose. Should my gen5 fail, or need to go out for mods, or warranty work, I have another 19 to take its place in the meantime.

I like the tapering on the front of the slide, and the glared mag well, but they couldve made it optic ready, (like a growing number of pistols today, getting it out ahead a little), and they couldve put a taper on the top corners of that blocky slide, as well as added front cocking serrations,( and, idk, maybe integrated an adjustable trigger), but they really need to offer a completely new model in addition to the classic one they always attempt to redo, like maybe producing a hammer fired version, now that would get buyers really excited. Thanks for the share

I'm still using my gen 2 M19 that I bought in 89. It was a great shooter then and 40 thousand or so rounds later it's still a great shooter. Mine is bone stock other than some Talon grip tape. Other than that I ever saw a need to change a thing.

Wicked Coolname I also still have my 89 Gen 2. I got it in the early 90's used from a customer of mine. He had the slide nickel plated. The plating was flaking and causing the pistol to jam so he didn't want it. I sent it to Robar Inc who at the time was one of the best gun finish companies around. Had them do the slide in their black Roguard Teflon finish and the barrel and extractor in their NP3 finish. Replaced the sights the previous owner had installed with some Meprolight night sites and called it a day. I've never had a single jam with it and it's still going strong. A few years ago I replaced it with a Gen 4 as my carry gun because I would hate to lose it if I have to use it. :)

Glock is an old gun now and no longer groundbreaking in any regard and quite dated. They are simply catching up to everyone else with the Gen 5. I thought they were amazing when they first came out circa 1987 in the U.S. but I no longer own any of them. I congratulate Glock for rewriting the book but that was three decades ago. These changes are welcome additions but hardly enough to consider a purchase. There are better choices these days. Glock will always have a sentimental place in my heart but not in my gun safe.

No front slide serrations,no better textured grips,no slightly extended slide release buttons,no locking pin for rear sights,no trigger reset or width enhancement but I'm also most surprised that there were no front grip sizes and models like the rear grip plus I was hoping for a better magazine funnel not some wider bottomed gun.

I’ve been trying to tell people for years that Glock hasn’t been the best option since generation 3. The gen 3’s were 450$ NEW and had everything a gen 5 offers still to this day a Glock hasn’t really changed. I could get lightly used gen 3 glocks with 3 mags out of box for 400 bucks back in 2010 era. 10 years later glock hasn’t actually changed or offered more for the same design except raise the price tag upwards of 200 dollars. When I see someone coughing up 600+ dollars for a stock glock even I’m embarrassed and feel bad for them. That’s robbery. Glock fans are some of the most biased group of gun lovers you can meet, they still don’t understand there are better pistols out there for less money. Now don’t get me wrong lol my safe is FULL of glocks but they are all gen 3 and one gen 4. I bought into the marketing hype only once and got a gen 4 19. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. My gen 3 19 is the exact pistol the 4 is. I cannot tell a difference other than the gen 3 has seemed to hold up a lot better against wear over the years compared to the 4. The finish on the gen 3’s are more durable and I’ve had no problems with the plastic guide rods now pushing a gen 3 19 and rtf2 17 to upwards of 8k rounds.
@kenna.9368
@kenna.9368 2 жыл бұрын
That’s all a very unbiased and perfect statement you made and I completely agree! Especially with what you said about the other options. There are just quite a few handgun’s out in this modern time that easily rival Glock, and are just as proven. Glock is the apple of the gun world. They make tiny subtle changes but market it as super revolutionary and Glock fanboys eat it up just like apple dans do when the screen increases by .0002 cm lol. I’m not saying they are bad guns because they are not. I just feel they are over priced for what you get, on top of the ugly plastic sights. Many guns offer equal quality, reliability right out the box with no changes, and look better doing it.

...agree about the sights: night sights are a must for any defensive handgun. Is the guide rod stainless steel? The width could be a problem for smallish CCW permit holders too. A gun that wide might as well be a 10mm unless you are a recoil sissy. I still think that Smith, Walther, Sig and so on has Glock beat. My EDC gun is a Glock 23, Gen 3, which has malfed a few times when new but seems to have settled into a groove of reliability for now.

I don't like the new cuts on the slide near the muzzle. The gen 4 looks better.

Buy a Gen4........ The finger groves was one of the most hated Glock features (it literally forced your hand into a certain position no matter what your hand size), the removal of the groves is a huge highlight....... Can't please everyone...

I don't mind the finger grooves, to bad the width increased though.
@drewmorg.

I think that is only due to the additional width of the slide lock lever

so does this mean you have a choice between gen 3, gen 4, and gen 5 now? or are they discontinuing the gen 3 and gen 4? is there any compatibility between the gen 3 and gen 4 with the gen 5? seems like a huge improvement. I always hated the finger grooves and always wished they would radius the front of the slide like the G26 slide

Umm the extra width is at the ambidextrous slide release lol. The slide and frame is the same

Hello. In your video you mentioned that Glock beefed up or strengthen their rail system from the gen4. Could you please explain how a beefed up or strengthened the rail system on the new gen 5?

The gen 5 is only wider than the 4 in the magwell area.

So all that said.. might as well wait for glock to catch on and start selling the weapon with the front slide grips, matches the lower half with the slide bevel, and come with a M.O.S. Seems to be the biggest complaints if everyone's videos.

This is what the Gen 4 should have been, minus the slide stop being on both sides and the frame not matching the slide. Wth are they thinking? All 7 left handed shooters in the world rejoice, you've just aggravated millions of right handed shooters. Meanwhile I can't get a left handed Fender Jaguar for less than $1200

Would it have killed them to take a little extra time to bevel the front of the frame like the g26 and 27? That is just cheap and cheesy in my opinion. I'll keep the gen 3 and 4 I have. If they can't take the time to adress a small cosmetic issue like that then I wonder what else they chinched on. The fact that they did away with the polygonal rifling is another,and more significant, deal breaker for me.

I'm no Glock hater I own Gen 3 & Gen 4 Glocks what I fail to understand is how many generations of Glocks will it take before they get it right. As much as they costs they still have crappy sights & triggers! So why should we have to buy good sights & better triggers? I won't be buying any Gen 5 Glocks or anymore Glocks until they remedy this. I'm fine with my Sigs & S&W M&P Pro & my Barettas even my Rugers have better sights & triggers. Just my two cents
