I think the Gew98 and early Mausers are smoother than the 1930's and after Mauser rifles
@donwyoming19362 ай бұрын
That's probably because they saw a lot of use and the action is so smooth now they run like greased lightning. 🤠
@MatheusPSjimmi2 ай бұрын
@@donwyoming1936 I thought the same, but it not explain the fact there are many Kar98k very well used in WWII, but they're not so smooth as many "brand new" Mausers from Chile, Argentina, Brazil and other countries who stored a lot of then almost without use.

During and after the war, many were manufactured by so many different factories all over the world. One manufactured in one factory in Germany might have a totally different quality compared to another one also manufactured in Germany. Different factories have/had different manufacturing tolerances, resulting in different quality.

I have built 7 rifles out of a 98 action. From a 22-250 up to a .338 Win. Mag. This action is beyond tough. To think it all came from the latch on Mauser's outhouse door.

As much as I love the Kar98, the Gewehr 98 had such a smoother bolt operation, it seems. I own both and my G98's bolt glides like butter compared to the K98, and I have thoroughly cleaned and greased both.
@macaroniandcheese2412 ай бұрын
I think it is dependent on whether the bolt is original or matching to the gun. I have multiple Russian captures k98ks of the code 237 or s/237 code which means it was manufactured by Berlin lubecker machinfabrik. These bolts feel very loose and not like butter, however when I compare them to my 1940 matching 237 code, the one on the matching one feels like butter. When I used to own to two gewehr 98s manufactured by Amberg, again the mismatched example appeared to have a bolt that was not buttery smooth, but when I compared it to my matching example, the matching one had a very smooth bolt. All in all I think it is dependent on whether the bolt is matched or mismatched to the rifle.

Rapid fire is not taking it off your shoulder. My 38 turk bolt stops about an inch from my glasses. But it makes you faster on the loudenboomen that the long barrel mauser does oh so well. And your video captures it well.
@theprancingprussian2 ай бұрын
How is it aimed below 400 meters Do you just aim lower or can you use tge rear wings as rear sights
@_DerGreif_2 ай бұрын
Even with the 400m zero, it still hits a man size target dead on as close as 100m. Now if you want to center a group on paper, you do need to aim slightly lower. I might do some videos showing that in the future, but I'm still working on loading ammo to WW1 German specifications.
