Hi Rob, thanks for the comments. Yeah they could have made a killer meter if they put an OLED display in the thing. Gerry

Yeah I did think that too, it feels like a better display *needs* to be hacked in but as you say, that project can be added to the list....thanks for the comments

Hi Tommy, yeah they are neat little boxes, well built for the money, really cannot complain. Gerry

Indeed, I found that when someone pointed it out to me. Its actually built quite well but the display is terrible. Interestingly Picotest seem to market the same meter but s a 6.5digit - firmware changes perhaps. Gerry

Hi Gerry, I have aqquired one of these units , and would just like to say:- Good review :-) keithley make some very accurate kit which i buy and use, i was offered a rigol 3058e in similiar price base.......NO! scopes yes middle end multimeters no.....the 2110 although adopted by keithley is awesome for the discounts going about at the moment, the support is second to none, i have an old keithley elecctrometer and its still bang on today..........36 years later amazing really! I also have a vichi 8145 its ok but its so slow...i use it for donkey low priority work :-) I mount my 2110 to the right and slightly up this way the pants lcd is awesome and different on my bench...bargain

yeah people do say that. But with two of them, so far....they have been excellent. Go to sleep at around 9PM, up again at 6PM so not too bad. Gerry

You are right, I just had a look. So without the power chord its better but it still moves around, not as much though - its workable, thanks for pointing that out. I am there with you on the "display annoys me" as you probably know :) Gerry

I was probably being a bit lazy to be honest, I think VirtualBox works fine too but I have had trouble with it in the past, I will probably give it a try and see how it works. Thanks for the suggestion

Nice review Gerry...don't feel like the Lone Ranger, blew the current input fuse recently on my Agilent 34405A (it's soooo easy to do if you're not paying attention!). Maybe someday test gear manufacturers will include Mac software...then I'll be able to get rid of the PC at the bench! Dino

Haha, yes Martin is definitely getting a cal lab together. Mind you, I do want one of those 8.5 digit HP meters...and I am seriously thinking about building my own high precision voltage reference using a Kelvin-Varley divider and an LTZ1000 - oh somebody stop me....

Glad to see you aren't running a cal lab. That's Martins teritory :) The display is a bit of a disapointment, blue on blue is never a good combination and particularly poor when the display is inverted. Smacks of trying to be trendy IMO and at the same time paying homage to the early HP displays. I'd like one of those sexy OLED displays which are well suited to a bench meter but not so on a handheld. Nice review. Thanks Gerry

Well spotted, yes they look identical, thats disappointing for Keithley, I wonder who the OEM is...thanks for pointing this out.

Agree, and for £400 its really at a good price point - perhaps Keith would argue that the display is a contributing factor to the lower price point.

The display clearly shows that they messed up the design, applied a horrid bandaid, and are trying to dump it on the market... Great video though, and puppies are always good video guests.

Totally agree. It looks ugly and I will never like this display. Also, device acts as GW Instek DMM. I see nothing from Keithley here.

I apologise for nitpicking but being older generation, it appears so easy. I will excuse you on the voltage setting, agree would have expected it to be 240. The reason us older folk are touchy about supply settings is in the valve era voltages were rarely regulated and relied upon this being set to the nearest 5VAC. The camera angle was probably better for viewers, backlighting would be better reduced. Like your relaxed style it is better than some frantic sites. Regards Rog. Lke the puppies I have an Akita!

They really tried to copy the 34401A, but the display is a big big fail. TC input is nice though.

Even if the review sucked, I would thumbs up for the cute puppies! But wasn't a factor since the review was well done. I love the old Keithley meters, but they seem to be headed in the wrong direction ever since Danaher Corp. bought them. Having a giant bezel to make a tiny display appear bigger is kind of scammy. We could hack in a bigger display but I already have enough projects as do most people.

If I was lucky enough to get one for free like you, then yes I would hack it. But to spend 600 USD on a DMM knowing you have to mod the display has me looking at other meters. I really like the looks of the UNI-T flagship bench DMM, but it's out of my budget right now! (unemployed at the moment, so I'm in the poor house!) So I'm actually going to get an older Keithley DMM once I sell some junk on eBay to fund that purchase, lol.

Pity because otherwise it is good value for the money. But like you, its still not an option for me because of the dismal display.

To me the display on the 2110 is better than the 2015. To blow the mains fuse by not checking supply setting is for apprentices. A free meter for this review, they are spoilt.

+klystron44 I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, personally I don't much like the ultra cheap LCD display module they have fitted to this meter, backlight is uneven, viewing angle is poor. In terms of blowing the fuse, yes I probably should have checked that before I plugged it in. However, in my defence, this was shipped to me here in Europe with a European power cord so I think it was reasonable I assumed that the voltage was already set to European voltage. Keithley are a world class global brand, they know how to sell all over the globe so shipping something to a region with the wrong voltage set is below the standard I would have reasonably expected from them. If it was a cheap brand then you could understand it, but its no. Or is it....! Take a look at the Picotest M3510A.
