The GH5 is an excellent camera equipped with everything essential to produce outstanding content for social media and television. Essentially, nothing groundbreaking has emerged to disrupt the waters and change the landscape in the global market of cinema cameras. What has certainly changed is that everyone out there has become vloggers and cinematography enthusiasts, selling LUTs and everything imaginable for the next model. In my day, all these people were called posers. Keep enjoying your camera; I still have mine and it has produced over 20 commercials and countless corporate videos.

I'm not a pro and I don't sell lut's my gol is to have fun with the camera and trying to convince people that to immerse into cinematography, you don't need to buy the best new camera every year, but to learn the skills. I'm very honoured for your comment thank you very much and have a good year!

Thank you very much :) I had you in mind when I did the video. I do my tutorials a little bit different than other big youtuber. And you got the concept right! I want to motivate people to try out stuff even in color grading. As long you don’t try and retry, pushing the color wheels yourself, you will not get in the habit of color grading and get good. There are so many tutorials already on youtube. I also learned a lot trough these videos but every image you shoot is different. The way I color grade depends on what I have shot. I hope I got you good tips in how to expose every picture. So you can try it out. It’s my simple way. Not everyone will agree with me but shooting is meant to be fun! And the end result is what matters. I had a lot of fun making this video, and I love chatting in the comments with people like you. You motivate me too 🤗🤗🤗

Ken, many thanks for sharing your practice ... it really makes me go out to film more often. Yes, I fully agree with you, adjusting white balance at each new place you arrive, then using Zebras to set correctly the exposition is the best way to get rushes easy to mount and colorgrade in post. Just two point, when using Vlog-L, 1 - Because it's a "L" (L = Limited), I've set Zebra 1 @ 80% (and not @ 100 % whch is correct for the other profiles). 2- To get an "optimal" exposition, I've set Zebra 2 @ 55 %. Then, my process to set the exposure is very simple : in most cases, by exposing the main character / subject in a way that just vanishes the Zebra 2 and then by verifying zones where Zebra 1 appears, I can quickly find the "optimal" exposition. I consider it's "optimal" because, when in Post, it gives me very little work (and headache I frequently had before applying this process) to adjust both color and luma. Since I've started to follow this process, the only cases I had to scrap rushes was when I by passed the initial white balance adjustment... a real nightmare when I discovered it in Post.

Thank you so much for your comment! Yes it really makes sense to do as much as possible in camera correctly so you'll have no little to nothing to do in post. :)

Hi Ken, I too have a gh5 and want to grow with it. I don’t have VLog yet and when I have it, I don’t know how to use the in camera lut. Pls info. Will my results be better than just my colourprofile and grade it in FCP? Thank you, Frans/Bali. 😀
@kenslyder3 ай бұрын
hi, thanks for the comment. With v log you just get more dynamic range and it's easy to color grade. I'm making a video about that and also how to use the in camera lut too. Stay tuned, it will be my next video :). You can color grade every picture profile if you want

I'm looking to upgrade. I've been using a Sony Nex 5r past 3 years, thinking of upgrading was considering the Gh5 or the Canon R10 because I'm a hybrid shooter...would love your advice
@kenslyder8 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! It depends if you like more to shoot video or photo. Both canon and Gh5 shoot video or photo. But the GH5 is better on video. 2. Your Sony has an APSC sensor and maybe you already own some more lenses, so why not upgrading to Sony APSC sensor. ? So you can use your lenses on both cameras

Hi, Ken! I have had Gh5 for 3 years and have found out filming in C4KALL-I 400M 24P. gives me the best image ever. however i bought $200 SD card which i happened to use it 3times with the settings mentioned above. surprisingly this same card wont let me shoot with C4KALL-I 400M 24P. after 20seconds the message would pop-up reads. "Recording was cancelled due to the limitation of the writing speed of the card". I have formatted the card several times, i even went to my local store where i bought the card and they changed to a new one, still the same thing. here are details of the card. VELOCITY CINE. 128GB Pro/Master Professional. Code 7419 SD V90 XC 3II. my question is, can it be Panasonic firmware update all may be i have touched something in camera setting that's causing this error. Thanks.
@kenslyder7 ай бұрын
Hi :) I researched about the card and you have to see on the card it have to be written 400MB/s. I guess the read speed of your card is only 300MB/s? it's written on front of your card. Let me know please. greetings
@kenslyder7 ай бұрын
yes I just found the details. unfortunately It's not written on front of the card where it says Code 7419. But I found your card on google and it says it's only 300MB/s. You can't use it for the C4K ALL-I 400M 24P. You have to make sure you buy a card where it says 400MB/s or more. But it's still a very good card you have and shooting in C4K ALL-I 400M 24P. compare to a C4K 150M 10bit doesn't make a lot of a difference visually. You should even be able to use your card shooting open gate 6K 200M anamorphic with this card on the GH5. So it is still a very good card you have.

I’m looking for a good wide lens for GH5, what do you recommend?
@kenslyder7 ай бұрын
It depends how much you're ready to spend and how wide you want it. With auto focus or not. And if you want a fast lens? I personally would go for the Panasonic 15mm 1.7 It's not super wide but it's a fast lens and it has auto focus. That's important for me but it coast almost 500us dollars. But I already own a 12-60mm Leica lens 2.8 it's not a fast lens but at least it has auto focus and the lens is also stabilized

My v log is lost, how do I restore it? Is it possible because I reset the gh5?
@kenslyder4 ай бұрын
I think you should try to reinstall it if you still have the barcode that you ordered separately
@vivianvaldi78716 ай бұрын
Serious approach, but why that kind of noise KS ? Is this a V-Log L signature ? Mostly use HLG bc you can't grade it back to REC 709 ! You better get the right exposure and light (WB) you want on set, bc you won't modify anything but exposure & highlights afterwords. U have like + 2 stop to recover over 100 % so great for rock scene events.
@kenslyder6 ай бұрын
Yes I was shooting in V-log at Iso 400 or more. That's why you might see some noise. In some shots I added grain to it in purpose. I liked the look
@vivianvaldi78716 ай бұрын
@@kenslyder Added film grain I saw on a later vid of yours. So 400 ? Very low ISO... Just getting that noise @ ISO 4000 with some B&W profile, 4K All Intra 422 400 MB . Should some need noise, here's another way to go. Thx for the info.

@kenslyderАй бұрын
Hello man. My settings were C4K 10bit 24p ISO 400. Filmed with the Panasonic 25mm 1.7 lens (link in bio) Picture profile V-Log and color graded in post without Lut's. I have a (COLOR GRADING PLAYLIST) on my channel if you want to check my color grading style for V-Log and Cine D. At the end of the color grading I added 100% of (Film Grain) in post. I hope that helps :) cheers!

@@kenslyder Thanks sir. Please what about white balance?
@kenslyderАй бұрын
@@ikawsjustus for me I set the white balance depending on the weather condition most of the times and I color grade it in post. So if outside is cloudy I set the white balance to cloud, if it's sunny to sun, and so on. Very simple.
