Lagos was Portugal colony and not British. William McGregor, Walter Ergerton, Frederick Lugard, Ergeley, Rev Hope Waddel, John Beecroft, Mary Slessor built houses and settled in Calabar. It was the first Capital of Nigeria and the major port for the trans-atlantic slave trade.

@@mbalondonmba2917. So sorry, but this still doesn't explain how pidgin english was formulated in Calaba because the Calabaris till date don't possess the flair to produce such a lingua. Take a deep look at the Warri people and u notice they are extremely intelligent people who have a funny outlook in life and this is why they are the funniest people in Nigeria. To me, this all adds to most likely make a mockery of the British English and in the process, pidgin english was born. This is my opinion anyway, but until I hear a direct attestation from perhaps descendants of the collonialists, then I can agree with u. I hear there is an international research currently going on in the university of Ibadan about pidgin english and its origin, maybe we can wait to see the outcome of their findings

Warri people did not have that encounter. The question is, which people did? Let's wait for the university research and see. NB The Americans possess a better flair n accent than d British but that doesn't mean they own it. There are more than 50 distinct dialects in Cross River, some of those people were brought from other African countries n d only language spoken was d language (pidgin) of the white man. I like the way you approach the matter though but let's not side a place cos we like the place, we need facts bro. Who where the first to encounter the British should be the main thing cos that's where pidgin emanated from.
