We had a great opportunity to visit and explore Ghar e Hira or Cave Hira at Jabal Al Nour in Saudi Arabia during our visit to Makkah for Umrah.
This video is about Ishmael and Isaac climbing the mountain, learning facts about this cave, feeding pigeons along the way and of course tips and tricks for climbing this mountain.
It takes about 1700 uneven steps to get to Cave Hira. It can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to climb and it depends on your physical fitness and comfortable shoes etc.
BACKGROUND OF GHAR E HIRA (جبل النور/غار حراء):
Ghar-e-Hira or Cave Hira holds a lot of significance in Islam. Ghar-e-Hira is about three kilometers away from the northeast of the city of Makkah. It is situated on the Mountain called Jabal-Al-Noor. The cave is about 3.6 m long and 1.60 m wide. Before prophecy, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to worship Allah. The first revelation was also sent upon him in the cave of Hira was:
“Read! (O’ Prophet) in the name of your Allah who created man with a piece of clotted blood. Read! And your God is very gracious who has taught man knowledge with the pen. The knowledge that was previously unknown to him.”
It was night of Qadr in Ramadan and Prophet (P.B.U.H) was forty years of age when the first revelation was sent to him. It was the era when Makkah was suffering from darkness of ignorance and illegalization. There was no respect for the poor and slaves. Women, on the other hand, were treated in the most terrible manner. With the start of Islam from Ghar-e-Hira, all bad norms started to eliminate from the world. Islam showed the ways for living a peaceful and happier life. People love to go to this place only for the curiosity to see the place where their beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to worship Allah. During pilgrimage, average of about 5000 people climb to the mountain daily to see Ghar-e-Hira.
