Many movies nowdays have an actor in front of a greenscreen, pretending someone or something is there ... but in this movie Whoopi had to do the opposite, with a person standing next to her while acting as if she can't see him. I always think of this movie in conjunction with Sister Act!

Whoopi said Patrick Swayze fought for her to get the part of Oda Mae--to the point that he would not sign onto the picture unless she was offered the part. At the time, he was a massive star, and everyone wanted him to star in Ghost, so his insistence that she take the role meant everything to the filmmakers. She has said publicly that she owes her Oscar to him and gave him a beautiful, tearful tribute on The View the day after his death.

True. Even when you've had a long time to prepare, such as in my Dad's case, death can throw you for a loop. He'd been on a long slide suffering from Parkinson's, finally unable to speak and shaking so bad he couldn't feed himself. Finally, he fell into a coma in his last month. He'd told Mom before he lost his speech that his goal was to live till the age of 80. On the morning of Dad's 80th birthday, Mom called me and asked me to come sit with Dad while she got her nails done. She'd hardly left his side for almost a month, so of course I said yes. Mom left to get her nails done, and I sat down next to Dad's bed. Suddenly I realized I couldn't hear him breathing anymore. He was gone. We're convinced that A) Dad had met his goal of making it to 80, and B) he didn't want Mom torn up being the one to have to call it, so he waited until she had left. Gosh, I still miss him but I know we'll be together again someday.

What always fascinated me is this is the first film directed by Jerry Zucker, a man who at the time had only made slapstick films (Airplane!, Top Secret, Naked Gun, Kentucky Fried Movie, Ruthless People). For him to make a movie like this with the drama, sadness, intensity, tenderness…..it was impressive.

Oh this movie is such a classic (I know I say that about every movie you've reacted to)! 14 yrs ago my first partner and I were involved in a fatal car accident where she didn't make it. So, this movie holds a special place in my heart because we used to watch this movie together. It brings a tear to my eye because it holds a lot of meaning when you lose the person you love. I can honestly say that watching your movie reaction brings a smile to my face because it reminded me of those happy moments we had. The ones that I continue to hold dear to my heart. My wife knows about the accident and she's so supportive because I'm still dealing with the trauma from it I appreciate you for doing this reaction because it brought back all those great memories that I had with my partner. Thank you for that. Sending positive vibes to y'all!

Every single one of Whoopi's expressions in the "check and nuns" scene is iconic. She does so well in the entire movie, but if I could only watch one scene for the rest of my life, it'd be that one.

Fun movie fact. The sounds of the shadows that took Willie and Carl were made from recordings of babies crying. The pitch was lowered by slowing down the recordings to make it sound like ghouls.

This movie came out when I was 18 years old and I resisted watching it because it looked like mushy love story stuff and I wasn't having it, lol. Either way, the next year it came out on HBO and I gave it a shot and absolutely loved it and I cried like a little girl at the climax like Asia probably did, lol. Such a great movie and RIP ,Patrick Swaze.

What planet you two from? Hugs and Best Wishes you two glad you all both fell in love with this gem. An bless Patrick who said no to the producers unless they hired Whoopie for that role. Since you like this film (and who doesn't?), I highly recommend "Starman", starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. It has a similar feel but it's a science fiction film about a visitor to Earth. Wonderful performances and a fun script, along with one of the most bittersweet endings ever. Curl up under a warm blanket on a winter night kinda movie. :)

Whoopi did an awesome job being able to hear Sam speaking to her and really helping him to seek justice on Tony Goldwyn. Demi and Patrick had great chemistry, such a nice blend of suspense, thriller, drama, and passion. Congrats on 40K subs!

@@charles7836 we know what you meant, Charles! And so did they. It was just funny. The first part of that phrase, Jack of all trades, is a compliment and was written by Shakespeare. But the second part, about "master of none," is an insult that was tacked on several hundred years later. So, you were halfway there, but we all got it. ☺️

Hey Aisa/BJ!! Just got finishing watching UR reacting to GHOST that's why I only do react to youz guyz!!. Now, class is in session, (Smile) talking about the song in the Pottering scene, the song was part a movie in 1955 called UNCHAINED. It was written by ALEX NORTH/ LYRICS by HY ZARET, called UNCHAINED MELODY. OK, here is the good part, the song was sung by TODD DUNCAN (A Black Man, Opera Singer/Actor/Professor at HOWARD UNIVERSITY (My School!! Go Bisons!!) In GHOST, UNCHAINED MELODY was sung by THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS (they were known as the White Soul Brothers cause their sound was so R&B back in the day, although they were not actual blood brothers) The song was released in 1965 and it was a huge hit!! In GHOST the song in the Pottering Scene, again it was a hit!! Also...go to the movie THE NAKED GUN they have a Pottering scene and you and BJ will be on the floor laughing ur butts off!! It is so FUNNY!! CLASS DISMISSED!! TILL NEXT TIME!! Butch Alvarez
