What makes these scenes in this movie even more impressive is that they used props rather than CGI for as much of it as they could. The visuals for this movie are going to age very well. 20 years from now it will still look great. Notice how Jurassic Park still looks amazing? Live props and practical effects. Also, if you watch the new Ghost in the Shell Netflix show they took inspiration for the shell in the opening sequence for each episode. Its the same shell as in the live action movie.

Agree.I found return of the Jedi the high point of practical effects.The fleets in space still look superior to cgi prequels 20 years later.

People failed to understand what a great adaptation this is (critics too). They tried to flesh out the character of Motoko more then Masamune did in the orignal which was great! Ofc this film is not greater than the original but it's a damn good film

Oh, btw, I've just saw "Ready player one" in the cinema... Boi, that was amazing! Really enjoyed that movie, and really looking forward for the Blue-ray release, totally gotta try and find the 4K version. The amount of references was simply out of this world... I'm pretty sure that I've noticed about 10% of all the stuff!

Not even 1/5th as good as the anime opening scene. The unbelievably powerful music (traditional mixed with nuance modern age) accompanied by absolutely perfect animation (this scene felt rushed, whereas the anime had fantastic pacing) makes this "remaster" look like a joke even 20 years later.
