Hey everyone! It's me, Sebastian. First off, I'd like to thank Jose for this initial review, very excited to hear his thoughts and input, especially down the road. I want this to be a device built with the community, so I really mean it when I say contact me with anything at all. On the subject of updates: You can expect updates for this device. Security patches as far as we can on this hardware, and of course bug fixes. We'll be putting a development roadmap on the site soon, so you'll be able to see roughly what we're working on, but for now just know we can bundle new applications with the updates. Number of people asking about podcasts, don't worry: we're on it. In the meantime, if you have to ability to save a podcast as an audio file, it can be played in the music player. Unfortunately it doesn't currently remember where you were in a track when the app is completely closed, just that you were on that track, which might get annoying for long podcasts. Reply with any questions!

Make sure to highlight the fact that the typing experience is superior to the lightphone. Don’t get stuck in the trap of adding apps for people. Some louder voices will say they want podcasts but what do your core users want. Less is more focus on the basic security updates. Just my 2 cents. Would love to be a part of this project.

I ordered and received my ghost mode phone in 6 days. I consider that quick this close to Christmas. I went to the AT&T store purchased a SIM card and paid for a month of service. I am very well pleased with this phone. No distraction’s just talk and text. That is the reason I purchased it. If you are looking for apps just buy a smartphone. I have always used an iPhone, so it will take a while for me to get adjusted to android. Sebastian please keep this phone plain a simple. There is a lot to see in this world and a phone screen is not one of them.

i actually really like this! I wanted the Light Phone but i do enjoy taking pictures, not to post but i just enjoy napping a pic of small stuff in my everyday life so I appreciate that it kept the camera! Really cool!

I was considering on getting a Pixel 3 some months ago due to the modding possibilities, and I like the hardware overall. I was thinking on trying Graphene OS but those guys stoped development for the Pixel 3 due to a lack of testers. So I hope this pans out. Also, the prices and availability for this Pixel new were similar to what these guys are asking (at least on my region).

I love the way that the hardware of the LP2 matches the philosophy of its use, but I might start recommending this to people who are interested in the light phone 2 but want normal smartphone typing and/or a camera

Love the the phone, but for me the only draw back is no email or web browser. Email for work interaction, web browser for banking interaction.

The only drawback is the lure of smart apps. If you keep it down to the basics only, it’s a good option and alternative for many.

Hi Jose! Thank you for your videos and the Dumbphonefinder. I'm really looking for a phone like this: OpenStreetMaps, Signal messaging, Open Source OS (no Google) - no other external apps or showing videos. Unfortunately this one is sold out, also I'm based in Europe. I've looked around quite a bit, but all the phones I find have some compromise. Is there any definitive recommendation you could make? Thank you in advance!

A dumbphone might be a step too far, however, the Mudita Pure is at the moment the most attractive option to me, since it's based in Europe, has (a seemingly secure) Open Source OS, and also this beautiful e-ink screen. I might prefer not having a camera, and even don't need a music player. Again, thanks for all your effort!

Sounds like a great set up. And I’d probably consider buying one except for the gps app. Here we go is a really good off line gps app. Only problem I see is if this device doesn’t use data. And I may have just missed something. I don’t know how one would download local maps for your area. Having said that. I love this. It’s what I’ve been thinking should be done as a phone for kids to young adults if parents are paying for services. Or for the elderly who just need a basic non confusing device that covers all the basics without being a useless flip phone.

Could you do a video which demonstrates how navigation works with the maps? Or is what you showed in this video basically all it can do? If it can't do turn-by-turn, that'd be a bit of a bummer

if you get "Total Launcher" and some time you can do this with a launcher replacement. You can simply hide all the apps that can't be uninstalled. I'm sure other launchers have this functionality too but you can basically create that layout you saw on that small phone in this video. Which gave me an idea for my tiny unihertz jelly 2, thanks :)

Question about the maps, so do we always have to download the maps ahead of time before using them or do we just need a data plan with connection to access the maps, like we would on any phone? Or were you just saying in the video that we are also able to download the maps for offline use? I was confused about this

You are able to download the maps if you want, that's how it works most of the time. You can download them ahead of time and never have to use data ever again for maps.

Ah okay, the only thing is I do like the real time traffic updates and stuff, and I remember years ago when I had a TomTom gps, I would have to re-update the maps once in awhile. I guess my whole thing is, can I access maps wherever I am with a data connection instead of downloading them for offline use? I don’t really have a need to download them for offline use unless I plan to like go off grid and will be in an area where I’ll lack service. Sorry for all the questions!!

Is the phone new, refurbished or just used? Do they provide the phone or does the user have to send them a Pixel 3? Does it have WiFi calling? Does it have an audio recorder?

I would assume it's refurbished. No, they send it to you. Yes WiFi calling. No audio recorder, but you can load one via ADB or APK I'd assume

Just got my ghost phone and my one issue is the map, the area I live in is outside main city limits so while I can find businesses near me - the map doesn't have personal address data for my area. I've marked a pin for my own address so I can easily navigate back home, but unfortunately putting in friends and families addresses will only take me to the street which is obviously an issue unless you've already been to the location. I'm switched from the Sunbeam orchid and loved it, except that I'm terrible at T9 texting and the tiny touch screen on the flip phone was hard to text on. So I'm glad I made the switch and am loving so many other features of the Ghost phone, but was to make sure other knew this about the gps. Since it was mentioned that theres a work around to download other apps onto the phone I may try and download a different gps? Not sure how that will work, but if anyone knows of a solution to this I'd love some insight!

Yep. Every carrier should be fine. Charger, USB dongle, and headphone jack dongle.

You have to do it manually. It's called ADB. If you learn how to use it, you can customize any android phone to be exactly what you want.

It's an app that helps you install things unto Android devices. It's not hard to figure out, just download it, connect an android, and install apps.

@yoda, it does seem a little crazy at first to think about spending quite a bit of money for less functionality. But in all honesty, some of us want our lives and privacy back. These smartphones have taken a huge toll on our lives as far as God, family, work, and focus goes. And all these tech giants like Apple and Google are stealthily stealing our privacy and gathering tons of info and data about our everyday lives, habits, and social connections. I am certainly willing to pay $300 to have my time, focus, and privacy back with a phone that doesn't entice me to squander my life away. I think it's a small price to pay in the long run.

Jose, you are evolving workhorses, I do not know only from what I have gathered here and there as you have told us, if I am incorrect my bad. Evolving from a Sonim XP3 Plus to a Light Phone II to a Ghost Phone with better camera and battery. 2300mAh - 950mAh - 2915mAh. Btw, while watching your video, your voice on headphones sounds like one of the characters of Fetidus the d*mn heir. If you like futuristic detective sci-fi audiobooks, it is one, I highly recommend. No because the original OS is a basic one. This is not a launcher or anything else, they have baked it/overried into the original software that comes with the phone.

This s a great phone, secure and private, though i'd prefer Graphene. It has more features and secure. If i buy a Ghostphone, i'd rather use a 2g basic phone, has the same features. All Feature phones today are running 4g which is not private AND very expensive with low quality. No thanks. But Nokia is durable but the company has privacy issue in the past.

Isn't we all can do the same thing by installing a custom rom? Most of the xiaomi phones have large amount of custom rom support and even phone around 6 -7 years old are getting updates. You can just install any rom without the google services and there you get a ghostmode phone.... Don't waste your money.

Yes. This is true. The issue is that many don't know how to do it. That's why this exists for people that don't want to bother on how to customize devices.
