If you guys are interested in these stuff, there's a fairly big "lore" in Ghost: Basically, there's this ancient satanic cult called "The Ministry", which wanted to spread the word of Satan in the most effective way possible. In the late 60's/early 70's, since Rock music was on a global hype, they decided to spread the word that way, creating a Rock band called Ghost. The lead singer would always have the title of "Papa" (which means pope). The first one was called Papa Nihil (the one we see earning the face paint and the white eye in 'Dance Macabre' music video). Following the downfall of Rock and the lack of the fast spreading technology at the time, Ghost went into the shadows and was never seen again... until 2010, when the band suddenly reappears, since modern technology has reached the point they needed with the Internet available worldwide. Now with a new lead singer: Papa Emeritus I (eldest son of Papa Nihil), they released the first album (Opus Eponymous). After that, each album would a new front man. That being said, we had Papa Emeritus II (younger brother of the previous one) on 'Infestissuman' (2013), Papa Emeritus III (youngest of the brothers) on 'Meliora' (2015) and then, all of the sudden, all 3 were mysteriously murdered, leaving the front man role open, but no more Papa Nihil sons to fill in. Because of that, they were forced to, for the first time, use someone out of the bloodline, and, as so, he couldn't be called "papa". Sister Imperator, a high rank woman in The Ministry (the woman we see initiating Nihil in 'Dance Macabre' music video), pointed Cardinal Copia for the 4th album ('Prequelle', 2018). Nihil strongly opposed the choice but ultimately had to accept it, as long as he stayed cardinal and was never elevated to the rank o papa. Papa Nihil, despite his advanced age, used to make an appearance at the concerts playing a saxophone solo in the song 'Miasma'. In one of the concerts, he dies onstage. Now, with the old leader dead, Sister Imperator promoted Cardinal Copia to papa, officially named Papa Emeritus IV and he was the front man for the 5th and current album, "Impera', from 2022. The music video for the song 'Kiss The Go Goat' (supposedly a song from the old days when the band was formed in the 60's when Nihil was still the lead singer) reveals us some details from the past. Back then, Nihil and Imperator were lovers, but as he was becoming a rockstar, he was getting too much attention from his female fans and for that reason they eventually broke up. Sister Imperator was pregnant at that time, but never told him. Now, in current days, she was actually the one who ordered all Nihil's sons to be killed, so she could point someone new to the role and that someone was gonna be Cardinal Copia, her and Nihil's bastard son. That way, she got her revenge and at the same time could put his bastard son in his place of right, as papa and leader of the band. Obviously, all of this is just fiction and was being slowly revealed through the years by all sorts of media (specially short lore videos they release on the band's KZfaq channel). The lead singer behind the mask (it's always a realistic mask, never his real face), songwriter and creator of it all is Tobias Forge. All of the albums are always conceptual too. The first 3 were 3 parts of a same story. 'Opus Eponymous' was about the annunciation of the Antichrist coming to Earth. Ends with the song 'Genesis', meaning his birth. The next record, 'Infestissuman', starts telling us the Antihrist announced before is actually the son of Lucifer himself and the album describes his first contact with mankind. Next one, 'Meliora', jumps in time and is about the relationship between the Antichrist and the mankind growing stronger and stronger to the point we reach the absolute absence of God, masked by the last song of the album, 'Deus in Absentia". The next 2 had a new concepts of their own. 'Prequelle' compared faith and blind belief to a plague, dangerous and fast spreading (having the Black Plague as the conceptual background for the comparison). And, finally, 'Impera' is about the mankind's fetish for power and how frail it is. It takes empires as an example, since every single one of them throughout history has risen and fallen. It's always a cycle that never failed before and never will. So, also modern empires, no matter how unbreakable they seem to be, will eventually fall and it's just a matter of time. Well... that's only the tip of the iceberg. And I can tell by your reactions that you will dive in naturally. You've been ghosted :P

Welcome to our family. You know if you have Ghost you have everything ❤️. As Geek said Tobias never writes the same song twice and every album has it's own theme and style. But one thing is always sure it's gonna be another fantastic song or album. In five albums there is only one song that i doesn't like that much. So you can go just how you want. The first album is a little heavier more doom, second more proggy less guitars, third more rock, fourth a little more pop rock and the fifth more stadium rock. So choose your path how you like. I would recommend to start with Ritual from the first album just to understand how it sounded from the start and then go forward. But it's your choice.

Give them a chance. It only gets better and better. It's really hard to think of a single one Ghost song that's not a damn earworm, but I'd suggest those below because of... being easily available with good quality of video and sound: • Hunter's Moon ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNqblLiL27PFd2w.html )

Ghost are one of the biggest rock/metal acts today. They are inspired by 70'/80's hard rock - Blue Oyster Cult, Kiss, Sabbath/Ozzy and Slayer and also ABBA (they are both from Sweden). Try Rats, Spillways, Cirice or Call Me Little Sunshine. They have 5 albums (the latest one was released in 2022), and all are amazingly consistent, and their live show is outstanding.

If you are asking what genre the song is in, then I'd say the song is somewhere in the satanic heavy-pop-rock genre that no one was playing in until Ghost did. But if you want to know what genre Ghost generally plays in, well... don't. Because they don't. Tobias writes in whatever rock genre he wants to. If you go back to the first album, it's probably the only one that sort of sticks to a genre (psychedelic doom metal, closer to something like what Sabbat might have done in the 1970s). But after that, the genres shift regularly, sometimes from song to song. I often laugh when I see someone react to a few Ghost songs, then suddenly hit something outside of their expectations and hear them claim "this doesn't sound like Ghost." Well, that's because you're listening to the popular songs people are recommending, not the best songs... you know, all of them. Because Ghost doesn't have a single song that isn't catchy af.

Papa Emeritus loves us all! I love this group and just heard of them about a year ago. I love the sound because it reminds me of 80s rock.I actually heard once that Dave Grohl played drums once as a Faceless Ghoul. I’ve also heard others have hidden behind the Ghouls.

You discovered GHOST about the same time I did, as with you I am wondering why I had NEVER heard them before. Technically they are a 'METAL' band with a lot of 70's - 80's hooks. The song Spillways was cowritten with Joe Elliot of Def Leppard The video "Live from the Ministry" with the After Party, is well worth a look. It gives you a feel of what the band is like live, and the acoustics in the Mountain View Mausoleum are AMAZING!

Best tip is to just go through it all... The albums in order of release dates go from old school 70's metal/hard rock/prog to 80's pop/hard rock. You will find some people will only listen to the old stuff and some people only recommend the newer stuff. It's pretty clear to me how their sound shifts album to album, but if you are open minded you will probably find stuff you like throughout.

That was pretty good, the wild visuals were actually distracting me from the vocals. The first part reminded me of early Divo. If you are exploring all genres, check out the song "Fighter" an original by independent rapper Tom Macdonald. When his songs aren't slamming politics or wokeness, they are like this one giving folks hope and strength when fighting addictions. Bye for now

welcome to the Clergy, Brother. Ghost is like Black Sabbath only more leaning into the satanic gimmick, though none of them are really Satanists. Tobias Forge is the vocalist and he runs the show, the nameless ghouls are just people he hires to play his creations and sometimes do backup vocals. they started out on the Doom Metal side of things and got catchier over time with their sound, mostly along the lines of 70's and 80's Rock and Metal. there are plenty of great songs to check out, try Rats next, just remember that the gimmick is just a gimmick, dont take it too seriously.

Although like a similar comment ghost is kind of whatever Rock genre the lead singer is feeling they should tap into that day, for the most part you would call them metal. They very much are considered a metal band. I'd like to say they're just a rock band that kind of plays in every single part of Rock. The only thing that they haven't done is grunge but it would be really weird to hear ghost doing grunge.
