Ghost Casebook

Күн бұрын

Today we look at some haunting, ghostly tales from Westminster, London, the political heart of the UK. It seems that Westminster, despite its classical appearance, ritual and royal connections, is linked to tales of murder and prophecy. Who haunts Number 10 Downing Street? What happened during the blitz? What ghostly goings on are found in the basement? And why was a shocking assassination carried out in Westminster many years ago? This video is part of a series focused on Ghost Stories of London, England, reputedly the most haunted city in the world. Have you had any haunting encounters in Westminster? Let us know in the comments box below 🙂
Please be aware that I receive lots of requests, and Westminster Abbey will be covered in another video.

Great video. I worked at No. 10 for a few years and just missed seeing the “serving girl” who haunts the state dining room. She stands quietly in the corner during periods of turmoil. I was in there planning a cabinet reshuffle . Further, there was some disturbance in the attic of the Cabinet Office, 70 Whitehall for 3 consecutive nights which had my contractors fleeing and vowing never to return. Turns out that this was part of the Palace of Westminster and there was, and still is, a huge stone bath up there. Footsteps were heard at 0300 every day but when security investigated nothing, and no one was found.

Fascinating! It would appear from this, that No.10 is one of the most haunted buildings in the country. Of all the ghosts there, I found the one of the little girl to be the most disturbing. Why in the basement? ...was she a child slave from the 18th or 19th century kept down there?? Or simply a child of a former Prime Minister who had an accident in the basement, and sadly died as a result. It was creepy to hear that people venturing down there had experienced an 'icy hand' touch them. Thanks for the story. Looking forward to more in this series!

Rob I thought about the ghost of the little girl. Winston Churchill had a daughter called Marigold who died of Septicemia at the age of two in 1921, but I think she passed away elsewhere. Until last year she was buried at Kensal Green in London but the family have moved her to St Martins at Bladon where she rests with her parents, grandparents, sisters and her brother. But I don’t know who the little girl is and I suppose we never will!

Just found your channel and love it! I am a new subscriber! Just wondering if the young man dressed in Regency attire could be William Pitt, the Younger. He was PM from 1783 until he resigned in March 1801. He returned as PM in 1804 until his death in 1806 at the age of 40. He was the youngest PM, elected to office at the age of 24. I understand the actual length of the Regency Era is 1811-1820; however, it is frequently extended to include the years 1795-1837.

I've only one strange paranormal/'ghost' story. Though not really much of a story... One night I woke up to the dishes and cutlery being put away in their drawers. Nothing weird about that, except it was about 0300 in the morning! Wasn't a dream because I still heard it when I'd gotten out of bed and was halfway down the stairs. The kitchen light was on, but from the stairs you can't see into the kitchen. I even called out, "Hello? Who's up?", because my mum and sister went to bed at midnight and by 1am they were usually asleep. So anyway, more specifically, it sounded just like my dad who was putting the plates and cutlery away. You can always tell who's doing certain tasks, for instance, my mum and my sister are much quieter when putting the cutlery away. I'm like my dad, and will just chuck the knives and forks noisily into the drawer! So yeah, by my last experience it was my dad doing the drying up... But at 3am? And when I turned the corner into the kitchen, no one was there... And my dad had died two weeks previously. I swear on my life that it was him though. My mum had her own strange encounter with dad a couple of days after he died too. He gave her a cuddle in bed when she was waking up in the morning. It really upset her. I mean, she was grateful for the contact, but it was overwhelming. 😞 I'm personally on the fence about ghosts, but that time I can't explain and I just _know_ that it was my dad...

It's astonishing that Percival is the only PM to have been assassinated. Not for want of trying, I'm sure. You should do one about London hospitals....i trained at Kings and there are definitely ghosts there. The ward above A&E that used to be for keeping head injuries for observation, is haunted. I expect it's not used for that now. But we used to be sent up on night duty to do endless rounds of observations, all night long. I saw a man in hospital pyjamas disappear through doors. I followed him, of course. He wasn't there. I was told on my break, when I described what I'd witnessed to Staff Nurse, that the gentleman had died the day before. He might have moved on now. But I bet there are others.

I'm surprised that only one prime minister has been killed, given the atrocious crimes that those in power regularly commit... Does anyone know whether it is still possible to actually walk or drive past 10 Downing Street? In 1986 I got taken on a sightseeing tour of London and the tour bus went right past 10 Downing Street. However, I don't believe this would still be possible today. When did this get changed and why?
@ghostcasebook1266

Hi Little Kitty, you can’t walk or drive past number 10 at all now and access is strictly limited. There are gates and guards now. I might be entirely wrong but I think during the 1970s and 1980s terrorist threats were so likely and even happened in places like Brighton that security was very much stepped up. But you are correct that in the past you could be photographed right outside.
