According to Harold Ramis, the Scoleri brothers were inspired by a real set of brothers who robbed/mugged his father’s old store.

@@jreese7436 in a murder trial the judge can't issue a sentence of any kind until the jury finds the defendant/s guilty first. The fire and brimstone nature would not have been a factor in the guilty verdict, just or not. Only in the execution itself.

And an official arrest record. If the brothers hadn’t shown up, the restraining order would still be in place as well. Even if the charges were somehow dismissed, they still wouldn’t be able to operate as Ghostbusters. This way, even though it literally cost the judge his own court room, the charges are cleared, the order is rescinded, the case dismissed, and they’re free and clear to operate as Ghostbusters once again. But at least the judge, the lawyers, and witnesses are all OK and the courtroom can be repaired.

Those special effects were so damn amazing for the 80's, and have aged well. 30 years later with all the modern cgi to compete with, and they still look f-ing great, and have a unique realism to them that leaves little to nothing to improve upon.

Yeah, have you ever seen Starship Troopers 3, for instance? That came out in, I think, 2007 and the CGI in that looks atrocious on its own, never mind compared to, say, the special effects this scene. You look at the CGI bugs in the movie, and you look at this and it's hard to believe this came out 20 years BEFORE.

Well this film still used a lot of practical and optical effects when it was made. The Scolari Brothers for instance, were actually played by actors in some rather grotesque looking body suits up against a blue screen. They then rotoscoped the electrical and transparent look to the ghost costumes in post.
@michaellandon1960
@michaellandon1960 3 жыл бұрын
@@SheathEntertainment Not just that but they're some optical effects there to skew the image in there too. To remove the blue, you need to do Bi-Packing on the optical printer. This is a lot of work, so it makes sense to do all of these effects in 65mm so the quality isn't lost in the 35mm print.

Randy Edelman definitely nailed not just the comedic aspect of Ghostbusters but the horror and intensity when it needed to be, he’s one of my favorite composers since hearing his work on The Mask. A lot of the paranormal content in the Ghostbusters franchise (the original one, specifically) is based on metaphysicism and paranormal research that was heavily prevalent in the 80's. Specifically it was the idea that ghosts, while real, were as much supernatural as they were scientifically explainable in some form or fashion - in this case that they were primarily broken down into categories such as 'psychic echoes', manifestations of strong emotional or psychic activity, or interdimensional phenomena. You can find similar themes in other works released in the 80's both in novel, TV/film and even in gaming formats such as the tabletop RPG Shadowrun, or the Japanese novel/anime/RPG franchise Megami Tensei (which would later go on to spawn the Shin Megami Tensei and the Persona franchises which continue this same metaphysics concepts).

I love the absolute chaos that follows when the Scoleri's come out from the floor and the Ghostbusters fire their particle throwers! It's a cool detail how they don't manage to hit the Scoleri's straight away, like they've been out of practice for a while. I also love how Ray's proton stream bends downwards at the start. Clearly this was to accommodate the onset pyrotechnics during filming, likely firing late. But I like to think that because the Proton Packs weren't used for a few years that this may have caused the proton stream to activate slowly or aim off-centre

From an interview with Ernie Hudson last year, he said it was incredible and nostalgic to be on set with Billy and Dan, with the proton packs and jumpsuits!... ALSO: Bill Murray was interviewed by Vanity Fair on the Afterlife set and discussed proton pack props with the reporter and how heavy they are to film with. Even putting the heavy pack on the reporters back to show him. So the Original Ghostbusters were on set with the proton packs. I'm confident they will be wearing some unlicensed nuclear excelerators in Afterlife :D Also regarding Jumpsuits: (On my own youtube Channel I have a 'Ghostbusters Tribute Video' and In it @45seconds is a photo of Ernie Hudson, which was sent to me last fall and he's wearing what I've been told is a Jumpsuit from Afterlife.--- One popular Ghostbuster Fan KZfaqr said he wasn't sure as Ernie wears jumpsuits at conventions all the time. But this jumpsuit is not in any pictures of Ernie online at conventions, have a look... this jumpsuit has a beige name tag, not accustomed with the usual jumpsuits he wears to conventions! & I trust my friend who shared it with me. Hopefully the above gives you something to look forward to. CH
