As the son of an Irish Catholic mother and Scottish Protestant father, born in Cornwall, it’s fair to say that Celtish blood runs thickly in my veins. As well as a childhood growing up in spooky old houses. But probably the greatest influence comes from discovering that I had become a recorded, written about ghost in my own right and lifetime.
For the full tale.. watch this programme. Volume 1 - • Ghostly Trails, Vol. 1...
It's a classic example of "Never let the truth get in the way of a good ghost story".. As a punishment as a child I was banished from my bedroom and made to sleep on the turret floor (really) featured here in the opening story.
In THIS programme we begin in Bronte Country and the ghostly influences of Haworth and the Yorkshire Moors. From there to the foot of the British Isles - Cornwall.
King Doniert, The Knockers at the tin mines, Edgehill - Battleground of the English civil War. Then to my local castle - St. Briavels in the Royal Forest of Dean. When my sons were young, I rented the castle for a birthday night and we all "slept" in the ancient prison cell. Lastly, across the River Severn to Berkeley and the home and site of sights of Dr Edward Jenner in and around his house, grounds, and local village.

Dr. Jenner's life is fascinating. What a horrible way to treat children, it's no wonder my ancestors left England for the colonies. They put the kids all together so they could all get sick. That just disgustingly sad and then have to suffer auditory hallucinations brought on from the smallpox. Thank God,.Dr.Jenner was able to overcome this and go on the serve his fellow humans.😊

🇬🇧 I cant remember where i heard this ( & have never heard it since) that the Bronte family were actually called by a different surname! A seemingly normal boring surname & the Bronte father thought giving themselves a more elegant sounding name would improve their standing in the community when he took over The Church & Vicarage at Haworth. Has anyone else heard this story? I know it was in a docu & thought it rather odd & a tad vain of the country vicar to create a somewhat exotic surname as Bronte I also cant recall what the boring origional surname was too. On the Cornish Mine entities known as Knockers, are they the same Beings known as the TommyKnockers? Im sure, in the film of the same name ( from the late 1970s or 80s) the TommyKnockers were little 3ft ugly mean looking troll like things! Really nasty & evil I think TommyKnockers is the American name but due to the migration of poor Cornish folk To America to seek their fortunes, many of ancient British & Irish myth & legend Went with them to the USA Id be pleased if anyone knows About the Bronte name & if the TommyKnockers were the Cornish Knockers! Peace 🇬🇧👧

It was brunty or prunty it was said he changed it to Bronte because Lord Nelson had been made duke of Bronte and Mr Bronte very much admired nelson

Spurious etymology is a pet peeve of mine and I'm sad to hear you indulge in it. "The name Marazion has erroneously been referred to as Market Jew but is believed to be derived from the old Cornish Marghaisewe, meaning Thursday market. It was known as Ictis by the Romans" .

@@GreatBritishChannel Hi Liam, I don't think the style of music is the issue, it's more the balance of voice over to music, which in some cases, the volume of the music competes with or drowns out your fabulous read. It just requires a bit of potting down of the music track so it complements your read, rather than overshadows (something to plan for in future episodes of course). Love your items. Please keep them coming! You are an excellent story weaver and researcher.

OMG! The musical accompaniment is the most annoying soundtrack I have ever heard! After nearly 20 minutes of doing volume down to dodge the music, then volume up to try to follow the narration I gave up. Sorry but it's definitely not my cup of tea. 👎👎👎

This is a re-upload. I've seen this presentation before, only a matter of a couple of days ago, and also a few years ago. There's no point watching it again. You need to get some *FRESH* material.

This sucked!! Sorry to say but I was expecting something like personal stories or/and reenactments of ghost footage to go with it or something?? Like A Haunting type show or Scariest Places In The World type show. Only the history to this was good. But where’s the scary ghost 💩????👎🏻

@Jays You're expecting *far too much!* Ghosts don't appear on demand, if they appear at all. To actually catch a ghost on video is a freak event, entirely down to pure chance! At least these are British presentations, done straight-forward without all the hype and sensationalism that plagues American presentations and thus robs those American shows of *ALL* credibility.

Leaving aside the music for a moment it should be obvious that the tone of this program is to tell what ghost stories are and how they develop, and it most certainly isnt designed to be a salacious scream fest full of cgi ghosts and fake drama. If that was what you want go watch Zak Bagans and his cavalcade of crap.
