Great review! I love the fact that you still play with your toys. That is why toys are made: for children, or grown men like us, to play with them.

Well done. Judging by your review alone, this was a solid addition to the Joe fleet. Seems the 90s were all about electronic gee-whizzery, and in this case it seems a fair trade to lose paint and fancier stickers to gain its electronics. That Ace, though… I feel like if I were looking to put Ace in a jet and didn’t have a sentimental attachment to the Skystriker, this is a perfect buy, presuming, of course, at a reasonable price. Here’s why: Ace is a USAF pilot. The USAF never used the F-14. It was Navy. That’s a small detail to some, and definitely not particularly huge, but I feel like it makes more sense to have him there as I’m a USAF brat and would like to represent. :)

The 30th Skystriker was a modular piece of junk. The original Skystriker was a one piece design, wings were one piece, from tip to internal mechanism. The only good thing that came from the 30th+ Skystriker releases were new sticker sheets, and a well detailed cockpit. Too bad when they recreated the molds for a separate nose piece, they didn't think to lengthen the pilot section to fit too figures. My Skystriker fell out of a tree in my backyard as a kid, and took no damage, vertical stabs do not count. I would throw my Skystriker in the backyard to simulate a crash landing, only a couple of feet, no damage. Oh, another plus about the 30th+ release, the stickers on the engines do not get scraped everytime you put one in, or take one out.

I think it's an awesome Joe plane. Probably one of the best they produced. It's kind of weird seeing an F-16 taking off from a carrier... but eh... it's an X plane. So... I'll suspend realism in this case. lol I can easily make that X mean that it included carrier modifications as well.

Looks like it would have been a fun toy! Great review, you guys have too much fun. Landing gear answer: US Navy and Marine Corps, cough Navy cough, fixed-wing aircraft are built to take off and land from aircraft carriers. For this reason, their landing gear are designed to be more resilient, due to impact with the carrier deck, the arrestor system, and the fact that as soon as the pilot hits the deck, he throttles up to military power (afterburners) so he can take off again in case he missed one of the three arrestor cables. Air Force landing gear are designed for nice, controlled landings on terra firma, not for the carrier hitting a swell, and slamming into the landing gear of Navy aircraft. The designers had a sense of humor, of course, and were Navy fans, as they put an Air Force Colonel, Ace, into a Skystriker, and the Dreadnoks attacked Lakehurtst NAS not McGuire AFB. In addition, the Phoenix Weapon System could only be carried by, and launched by, F-14 Tomcats. The entire aircraft was designed around the Phoenix missile. The stamp of GI Joe on the aircraft tells me this toy was not originally designed by Hasbro; another company had probably designed the toy, and the only way Hasbro could have the molds was to modify them to include a prominent GI Joe stamp in plain site, across detail work. Just my opinion.

Great review, boys! Oh man, this jet! I was out of the hobby by 1994 and didn't discover the Ghoststriker until i saw it in the RAHC Guide a few years ago. I immediately fell in love with it, but it's pretty pricey on the aftermarket so i don't own one. But, i like it so much that i featured it in my Kindle Worlds book, reimagining the flashlight feature as an electronic decoy projection. Anyway, going to watch this review again... Poor Sky Creeper :)

Just as a side note on the "WWII" ish guns on the Conquest X30--the X30 was based on the X29 experimental fighter...whose fuselage was built off an F-5 Tiger. And guess what type of guns were on the F-5? Yep. the same type of dual "Cartridge Guns" seen on the X-30. The Skystriker has no excuse for the mini hump on top, though...

wow, I ve never seen this one before, at first, I thought it was a fake. I like the size - proportions, color scheme, except for that crazy orange green.... and huge joe sculpting logo. it does look lighter than others like the sky striker, but I also hate the landing gear color. I m also against the handle underneath, and any electronics in the vehicles. the hurricane is the joe plane 'par excellence', design, concept, durability, realism, function, looks, it has all. the raven, rattler, x-30 are close behind in my opinion, the condor s flaw is the landing gear, 2 vehicle concept. the sky striker is a classic, and the phantom is perhaps a bit too big, cumbersome. the joe plane copter was a disaster in execution in my book, it looked weird. I think that Hasbro would have done better than the handle with hooks to attach with wires. for both play and expose suspended. as for electronics in vehicles, well, they don t mix well with winter and water... these take up space for figs and storage, and they only last for so long after the batteries. I like the bells and whistles of electronic toys, but not in joes that are supposed to be outside activity. a forgotten piece one night at -40 in Canada will ruin any light or sound trinket. any all terrain vehicle not able to take a little river water is pretty much useless. if only just for pictures of outside dioramas. you can script a hurricane to crash in a sea or lake, but not this one, it limits it s use and purpose. if I still had my collection, I d get it to see it next to the other planes. the only flaw visible would be the launchers and missiles. Firefly must ve taken control of the color scheme, because he sabotaged the realism in one blow. I agree on making missiles visible to avoid losing them outside, however, yellow would have looked better. the launchers are pure Firefly s work, a disaster, who could lose them anyway? in a collection, there will always be pieces that we like more or less. Cobra Commander; I want it...all!!!! of course, when you are a collector, you want it complete, and this is a nice rarety one serious fan cannot do without. congrats and good show!

Wow wow Cyber! Very detailed response and I definitely agree (for the most part, I am a self confessed fan of the Skystorm X-Wing Copter!) And yes, the neon is inexcusable. I have got to corner Dave Kunitz at some point with a list of questions about questionable vehicle choices. And battery gimmicks do add another layer of fragility to a toy, absolutely. But the novelty of them can sometimes tip the balance. I just got a functional Mauler at Joecon and I am overjoyed by how fast that thing can MOVE! Just not through any streams, mind you!!
