Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah at one time or the other, has worked in some of the most respected and influential media organisations in Ghana and beyond. From his humble early start at a small fm station called Sunshine Radio in Accra, Yaw recounts that monumental 1999 under the tutelage of KKD, to Tommy Annan Forson's mentorship at Choice Fm, Emma Morrison's counselling at TV3,and presenting sports next to Komla Dumor on the Super Morning Show at Joy fm.
The list goes on to include Atlantis Radio, Metro tv, most recently Etv/Yfm and with a beam on his face he says 'and ofcourse the BBC in London where i really learnt my trade'.
He shares his life experience with Dentaa of living in Ghana and living abroad.. He thinks one needs the balance of both worlds.

Government should be able to make laws to change most of the wrong doings.....Ghana is lawless everybody does what they want and our Leaders are our biggest problem most of them do not qualify for the job is like the blind leading the blind..... we have reach a tipping point soon the youth will take the law into their own hands boz the system is failing them. This economic poverty and bad mamagement is a disease that all Ghanaians have to acknowledge and treat it.

Mate, working with the BBC, you must have witnessed the UK youth learning on the job and getting paid before even having to go to media or school of journalism which we don’t do in GH. I was expecting you to use this opportunity to educate the various media houses to learn from your experience and hopefully adapt.

Great interview, intelligent questions by Dentaa,"honest" answers by Yaw.. Kudos!. BUT, I think I don't concur with Yaw's assertion that Ghanaians are laid back. Truth is, its very stressful out there so you've got to be always on the go or you starve, or better still risk being homeless. But ooo.. yes! Ghanaians need to learn how to maximise their time within the space of the peace we enjoy, we can certainly do far better . But hey!! the best place to be with your kids is GH... our culture enshrines invaluable ethos that cannot be compared to that of the West. If Yaw is talking about "balance" in that respect, then he's got my vote on that 🙏😊.

Great interview. I'm not sure if we are ready to compare the western to Ghana because because Ghana is not there yet. However, there are lots to learn from the western in terms of work ethics. I think he did great with his point views.

I really like Yaw for his hard work in Ghana as a journalist but the way he is talking make me surprise. As if Ghana is not secured for his children. Is UK your country or do you think they value you so much. Just make one mistake and they will show you were you come from. There is so much opportunity out there but your country should be the number one. Bring what you have learned and support your country Ghana rather making the western look like Heaven which is not true. I'm living in Europe, schooled and working in the administration sector which I live good but I know within me; Africa and my country Ghana is the number one. the so called white people knows me better that I don't joke with my country.

We think alike. I came to Europe at the age of 10, schooled here and have a good job here, but Ghana is number one for me. At work if anyone talks bad about Africa, they have me to deal with. Don't care if its about Ghana or another African country. I lecture everyone around me about how great our continent is regardless. When I tell them am going back home and they ask me why? I emphasize on how not so great Europe is and how my soul needs Ghana to compete me.

There's no place like home, if you can balance between both worlds it's good, there have to be balance in everything we do, l have just arrived this morning from worked ( 26/11/2020 ) after a long business week here in the UK and it depend on my business boss weather am staying at home a day or two days and back on the road , Ghana is a good place to live if you plan it well, the only bigger problem in Ghana is time keeping and the problem here in the West is that you don't have a family life, about bringing up your children in the West versus Ghana, if you can start their education up bringing in Ghana it's advisable, here everything is opening and there're bigger chance that your children will not practice faith,

East Africa is more developed. Why always Ghana, Gambia. You should take a few months. TRavel to as many countries as possible, see what each country has to offer, nd which one fits your personality, your situation, your need. no rush. Ghana does need a Visa though
