At the end of the day it’s how these toys make us feel. It’s that connection to our childhood that compels us to buy these toys. And sometimes those small details don’t really matter as long as I have a GI Joe Slaughter in my collection. The Valaverse options are solid for sure, I just don’t have any connections to them. That’s just my opinion.

The Valaverse Sgt slaughter is how I discovered Action Force. I only have v2 Sarge. I like action force and started collecting from Series 2. Having said that, I still prefer the look of the Gi Joe one. I like both lines.

I just shipped a BBTS pile of loot earlier today and was looking over what was still in pre-order, and there were 4 valaverse figures (including sgt slaughter version 1) and 2 valaverse accessory packs, all ordered in September of 2020 that have yet to arrive. I took a double take as that'll be 2 years in less than 2 months. I did get v2 Sgt slaughter from dorkside, and think he's too small compared to other classified figures. And American fans of gi joe's Sgt slaughter don't keep the chubby real life version in mind for the look they want, but rather the look in the 80s movie and cartoon episodes... in which case the proportions of this hasbro figure are more in line with.

Pinless joints would have been awesome I agree. The box art by Adam Riches is more than enough compensation for a windowless box though.

So my options are to either get the Valaverse version, which has more accessories, is actually a few dollars cheaper, and would be supporting a small business over a multi billion dollar company, or get this Hasbro one. I think I know which one I’d pick.

I like the Valaverse figures but I got absolutely destroyed on shipping and "brokerage" fees to Canada when I ordered from the Valaverse site. The two Valaverse figures I ordered from the site ended up costing me about $165 CAD. As much as I like them, there's no way these figures are worth $82. That being said, I can order the Hasbro Sarge through a Canadian retailer for $56 total, taxes included. From that standpoint, it's cheaper for me to go with Hasbro. If Vala ever figures out a better method of shipping to Canada, I may change my mind, but until then he's lost my business.

Glad I’m a Joe fan so I had an open enough mind to try Valaverse. That being said the line has given me no reason to turn on GI Joe. It’s sad so many Valaverse fans are jealous of GI Joes place in the heart of collectors. Who are you trying to hurt Hasbro? Valaverse is a great line and so is GI Joe Classified! If you collect modern military figures do yourself a favor and get figures from both lines you can’t go wrong!

It is funny because, some of the things not mentioned is the scale of the valaverse figure, is not in the scale that Slaughter himself would be. And the valaverse head sculpt leaves a lot to be desired. I think that the accessories for both are desirable....but the character is what a lot of people will be desciding about....so let people pick what they want with out all the shaming.

both brands have their pros and cons I just enjoy cool 6 inch military figures in the end and will enjoy both figures in their own way

I bought all Valaverse versions even Slammer, and will buy the Hasbro version because they’re both awesome in their own right. I prefer the larger scale cartoonish Sarge, but that’s me. I feel like $30 is a bit much for any regular figure, but I don’t make the prices. I’m just a grown man that likes good action figures regardless of who makes them. Let’s not be toxic babies. Toys are supposed to bring joy, not anger & negativity. Yo Joe, Full Force, Burg!

You made very real and valid points, and I chose to get the Hasbro version over the action force. If I had done more research on the action force version I probably would've gotten that one. The Hasbro Sgt Slaughter is the version that fans have bee n wanting. He looks cartoony because that's the inspiration for the figure: the GI Joe cartoons. I have V2 Valaverse Sgt Slaughter, and the head sculpt is not flattering. IMO he looks like Popeye. The Hasbro head sculpt is really good. Regarding the price: alot of Joe fans aren't going to care. They're not gonna care that he's not pinless, or how many hats he has or doesn't have. For many, many people the Hasbro version will be THE version of Sgt Slaughter in their collection. A big company makes a big version of Slaughter and a little company makes a little version of Slaughter. Let the fans enjoy both. I really didn't expect to see a video devoted to dragging a figure that's not even out yet. WTF?

I was looking to buy one but after taxes and shipping it's over $40 and now I'm not so sure I want to spend that.

Sarge might have been fat in real life but that figure is what we got in the cartoon.

I bought the Sgt. Slaughter version 2 from the Valverse booth at Joefest. In my opinion the Valverse version has a much better bang for your buck! The mini Sarge is the only reason I want the Hasbro version.

I like both figures. Yes, the GI Joe version has a cartoony sculpt. But they are going for that look. Yes, it is overpriced. Like I said I like both, and will have both in my collection.

I think I just watched an add for Action Force, at least by the end of the video. Some solid points, but some of your 'facts' are still opinions. Value is subjective, therefore making most of the argument opinion. But I digress. Would I prefer his arms were pin-less? Yeah, I would. Do I care that much? No. Do I prefer the cartoony, larger than life look of Hasbro's Slaughter? Yeah, I do.

Aesthetics is why pinless joints are preferred. However if you're a customizer pinned joints make customizing easy

I paid the same price for the valaverse ver. Of sarge at bbts so its no big deal for me. I also feel like that ver.of the sarge is a bit smaller that some of the other joes in that classified line so I'm happy to see a larger then life sgt. I mean if there going to go the 80's toy like with the line i think he fits better in my humble opinion.

Ordered v2 of Sgt. Slaughter a few days ago from Valaverse. Was going to order Hasbro's version as well, until I saw it had no window on the packaging. Might as well come in a brown paper bag.

I admit I was shocked that the price for the new Sargent Slaughter figure and felt it was very steep. I had no idea that the Sarg's hat is made sooo flimsy, hope that does not become a problem... Lastly I don't have a issue with the the body design he looks huge but yeah wish it was pinless. I can always replace his AK 45 with a more appropriate weapon

Great comparison. I'm a fan of the character and I already have both versions of the Valaverse Sgt. Slaughter. I've ordered the Hasbro one also. My plan is to sell 1 or 2 of them "loose" once I get my hands on all the 3 versions. I'll keep the best figure most likely the best accessories for my Ultimate SS. I'm just happy that both lines are quite compatible.

I agree with a lot of what you said, although personally I like the micro carded figure because I also collect micro scale toys (Super Impulse World's Smallest for example).

That "rifle" they included with him, an imaginary AK variant, was the very first thing I noticed when I saw him. Not only does it look ridiculous with him, but if they wanted to make a figure reminiscent of the 80's cartoon, with the ridiculous physique and all, why not just tool and include a new version of Snowjob's laser rifle like everyone had on the show?

Not even a question for me. I have ONE (1) G.I.Joe Classified figure (the Snake Eyes movie version of Storm Shadow, which I bought on clearance from Entertainment Earth for $6). I buy classified figures to beef up my Action Force display. I hadn’t bought any before I bought AF figs, and I’m much more satisfied with the AF figs. I’m a lifelong Joe collector and I was there at the start of the RAH line back in 82.

I've seen someone combine the two versions of Sarge to get a Valaverse equivalent of the classic look. I just got my Sarge yesterday and he puts my Gungho to shame in every way.

I get what Hasbro is trying to go for, which is for pure nostalgia, and I get that, but I have the Version 2 Action Force Sgt. Slaughter, and in terms of appearance and accessories, is miles ahead of the Hasbro version, and I’m quite pleased with my Action Force Sgt. Slaughter.

I cant wait to see them side by side with my own eyes. I dont get sensitive to comments about which is better, ill enjoy both. The price thing is a bit absurd however.

The Sarge must have a record for mist toy lines he is part of. Sergeant Slaughter needs a Transformer toy and Ninja Turtle.

I got this figure recently on a black Friday deal. It was the price of a normal classified which was much more palatable. I have V1 Sarge from Action Force too. Both have merits and flaws. I'm planning on getting V2 sarge from AF after the holidays, he does seem like a better value for the price.

I own version 2 slaughter from valaverse. My only knock is the scale. Slaughter should be taller. I really like the buck of valaverse slaughter but i will use another non slaughter head on that body when i get my hasbro version. Hope valaverse makes head packs for army builder figures.

Yeah I just started getting back into collecting GI Joe I gave up on GI Joe in a late 90s when they started going environmental and crazy with colors the fans have allowed this with the ridiculous pricing of the his tank now they think that they can give them anything I have purchased some valiverse products I was very sought at after your character I bought two and I bought Sergeant Slaughter I am very happy with it I don't think has bro right now has anything that can top what he is doing everything is top of the notch fan-friendly don't get me wrong I have my Nostalgia stuff that I have to get I love GI Joe but I don't love the business act not everyone has money on demand especially during these tested times keep up the good work love what you're doing speak up for us cuz if you don't no one will.

Great preview mate! I actually like the Classified version of Sgt. Slaughter vecause he's big and bulky compared to the Valaverse version by the looks of it. I will say one thing for price points. ALL of the Classified figures are jumping up in price to 29.99. That, in and if itself, now makes the Valaverse line right in the same price point, and now totally valid fir collecting if you like them. I happen to think some of them look pretty cool. They just have no appeal for me because they have no history. They don't touch on my nostalgia of the original G.I. Joe line from back in the day. Though, I can see some of the figures as being "new" Joes to mix in with the classics. Keep up the good work!

Both lines are cool. As an O-ring figure collector, I have to be honest about the joints. Pinless is prettier, but I am always going to choose my favorite characters for my collection. A generic pinless ninja is going to lose to pinned up Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow on my shelf every time

I think the price is too much for what's included, if it was 24.99 I think I wouldn't be as conflicted. Valaverse is a great value for the money and shows what should be included for a figure at that price point. The body and gun are all reuses from previous figures, but I think the head sculpt is decent for a young version of Sarge. And the gun included just doesn't make any sense for Sarge. While I have always likes the look of the '86 Sarge, one of my favorite things about that figure was he had unique proportions compared to the other figures in the line. I don't like this "big body" that they are using for the larger characters, I think it looks to out of place compared to the other figures in the line. I'm also worried that his campaign hat will be very warped, and you cant even tell with the window-less box (which so far on the examples they've shown us don't look all that appealing to me). Now I am glad they are releasing a Sarge in the Classified line, and I am glad they are bringing fan-favorite vintage inspired characters out. Also they cant give us windows on the box, but can put a plastic window on the micro Sarge figure?

You have the 1986 Sgt. Slaughter with the same style of muscularity as this Classified body, so pins or no pins his actual body has nothing to do with the toy presentation. And pins DON'T bother me - for one thing, they're phasing out - it's not just overnight 'no more pins.' I do HATE the AK-ish gun and have been going on about that since they showed it last month.

I think the fact that Valaverse can offer more, despite being only a fraction of the size of Hasbro, is the most telling. I'd understand the cost cutting if they were making a mass market line of action figures destined for store pegs, but they're not.

I was buying the Classified Joe figures a year ago and I wanted the Sergeant. I saw the Action Force version and the Hasbro and bought the Action Force version because it was cheaper. I really like it, the only gripe is that glasses keep falling off. It’s a great figure with some neat parts. I liked the addition of action points and file card, and it fit in nicely with the Joes. Since then I have bought the Hasbro and I find some good points one of which is the glasses stay on better. Both to me are good figures with positives on both. I have also been picking up Action Force and I like the figures sadly I have missed out on most of the first and second wave.

I’m gonna get the Sarge from hasbro, I would happily get the Valaverse figure instead because it’s much better, but I can’t seem to get hold of one, every time I have looked in to Valaverse figures in the UK, I can’t get hold of one, I was lucky to get hold of Bone Collecter but can’t get hold of any more, so annoying because the figures are soooooooo good, my Bone Collector is one of the best figures I have.

I unfortunately can’t get either one but if I could I’d get the valaverse one because that’s way more bang for buck

Action Force figures are made of better quality feeling plastic too. I've noticed quite a few Classified figures have a soft feel to the plastic that seems cheap.

My only real gripe with the Valaverse version is that it is slightly undersized. I think Valaverse needs to focus on making more realistic military figures and forget about characters. I just bought a couple of the generic green ones and they are great. Give me more of these or different uniforms such as Rangers, Seals, pilots , paratroopers, sailors, medics. Figures that I can compliment with my Classified.

Seeing both of them. I think the Gi joe version is mostly being sold through nostalgia for the classic look while looking closer you can see the value is just for the look and the accessories are very minimal and not worth the high price. While Valaverse I can see the value and doesn’t go for nostalgia but giving us a more modern look for the character and more fitting for the story and lore that valaverse is making. And as a collector I want all that extra gear it comes with cause I want to display it in any way I want. So I would go for valaverse cause I love the extra accessories and look while the gi joe only attracts those whom have nostalgia for the classic look.

The elbow and knee pegs never bothered me until you mentioned it. Lol! Great review. I do think they're over-priced and if we pay it, they'll keep charging us this price. My biggest beef is that you cannot just pick these up in stores anymore.

I have both Action Force Sgt.Slaughter figures, that said I wasn’t a fan of him as a child, didn’t have the figure and thought his vehicle was a poorly designed and impractical military vehicle. That said, I still hope to get the Hasbro version as well, sure the physique isn’t realistic, but it is in the style of the Real American Hero cartoon.

Ok, I purchased my first valaverse today, I was waiting on the Sgt Slaughter from G I Joe and I was disappointed in the look and the price. So I went with valaverse.

The Valaverse definitely has more accessories and is probably a better value. But I like Mattel's figure better for the way Sarge looks.

in my opinion, the Valaverse figures articulation is completely superior to any of the classified Joe figures! easily more posable, and the accessories are phenomenal! my only complaint is the Sarge I got had a massive QC issue with its seam on the trap muscles. there was a 1/16" gap. valaverse handled it and sent out a new one immediately. unfortunately, it has the same issue. i may be paying more for a Hasbro Classified Sarge, but I am fairly certain I wouldn't have this issue.

Hi Tony, interesting video. Saw the sculpt for the gi joe one and looked at my V1 valaverse. Love my V1 sculpt so much more, sculpt looks better to me and him with his hand on it pistol holstered and pointing at the enemy just makes it and I’ll will be staying with that! Okay so let me be 100% transparent I totally understand where you're coming from and I agree with your sentiment, but with that being said I do take offense when you say that a person who says depending and the fingers don't bother them is lying because I personally don't care I never complained about the parents to begin with the only problems I ever had with pins was the fact that has but refused to paint them when Spider-Man other than that I don't care as long as I think it moves depends don't bother me now do I agree that once you start a certain type of ingenuity or new innovation and creating a character or figure that you should never go backwards yes I agree to that but to say that I'm lying because I don't care about the things it's very biased on your end and I think you shouldn't put your viewpoint on the others. And as far as the unrealistic proportions at the end of the day that's how he looked in the cartoon and that's what he's supposed to represent not necessarily his wrestling persona but his military persona that they're used for the cartoon that's why this Buck isn't necessarily and negative thing in this particular case but everything else I totally agree with you want I have been Valaverse person since I was lucky enough to be able to get them from the site before they sold out so since I've been collecting since then I understand the difference between the value of one of those figures versus the scam that has more like the pool on their fans.

I think it's great that Sgt. Slaughter has so many figures now. There was even a Mattel wrestling figure of him recently. I personally prefer both Action Force figures. Especially V2 which comes with a ton of accessories. It's a shame (in my opinion) that the Classified version does not. I think pinless joints are good when well executed. Marvel Legends pinless joints have been hit or miss. Some have been pretty solid, others have been very gummy.

I love the GI Joe classified version Sgt Slaughter because it’s based on his GI Joe look not real life Sgt Slaughter. I just wish they did the other Physical training instructors like Perry “Fridge” William and finally give us Rambo in the GI Joe lineup. I don’t mind the price point if they gave us the option of the package with the window. Action Force is Rockin with better gear and a displayable packaging Hasbro really is dropping the ball and giving the finger to in box mint collectors!

That's my problem. Hasbro's pricing this year is all over the place 22.99, 24.99, 30.99, 32.99, 33.99, and the funniest 90 for three Spider-Men that only have three sets of hands each. I'm looking at Hasbro's prices, and I think I could buy a Action Force figure, I could get an Animal Warriors of the Kingdom, Knights of the Slice, Plundering, Marauders Gun Runners, Cosmic Legions, even Articulated Icons. Then there's Hasbro's new D&D line that coming out. It's based off the upcoming movie, so Dark fantasy figures. Hasn't Four Horsemen been doing that with Mythic Legions for years now. Oh but I can preorder a $35 translucent blue box. Based on a property Hasbro owns, and I've seen KZfaq tutorial videos that show you how to make your own gelatinous cube for action figures that look way better. Hasbro keeps losing my dollar, as more and more I feel I'm not getting my money's worth.

For a 20 dollar figure could careless about pinned joints. But for almost a 35 dollar figure it better not have pinned joints. I'm excited for a sarge figure I collect sarge stuff I've met sarge twice . Sarge sold me on valaverse I own all the vala figures except desert rat and a few republic guards and wasp raider. The mini sarge is a cool throwback to the 80s.

I collect Classifieds but I really love the Action Force stuff. Mostly the weapons packs and accessories. They work great to spruce up the GI Joes. But this Srgnt Slaughter is far far far better then the Hasbro

I'm a bit peterb that it costs more then the valverse figure too. I value my money. I have third party masterpiece transformers proudly sitting with my Hasbro master piece ones once they started costing way more then the Hasbro ones. Especially since allot of third party stuff is just as good or better then Hasbro equivalebts. Now that I have a few Classified gijoes I'm seriously looking at getting valverse equivs because I think they are made better and in the case of Sarg offer so much more value for the money. ESpecially since I have to import them into Canada from BBTS because 1 - they are hard to find here and 2 - its cheaper to import them then to buy them at retail here. Assuming you find it fast enough before the secondary market buys up what stock there is here and jacks the prices.
