As a converted bass fisherman myself, I'm glad to have found your page. I absolutely love chasing inshore saltwater species... and doing it with a few techniques that I used to do in freshwater is even better. Tight lines! Perhaps I'll see you out there and we can share a tide.

I see you are using YGK Upgrade x8 22lb. Does it have to be 22lb or can I used something like 14lb instead. I bought a Tatula XT 73M and decided to used a 2500 fuego LT reel. I see your cousin used 10lb daiwa j braid. Can you do a future video of why you are using the YGK braid and what make them better than other braids.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
22lb is perfect for fluking - 14lb is really finesse freshwater diameter. 22lb is like 6-8lb US braid thickness, no need to go thinner. YGK is the best braid on the market - super tight weave that lasts, doesn't absorb water, not too wiry or limp.
@fishyfishyfreak
@fishyfishyfreak Жыл бұрын
@CookingandFishing when you use the jerkbait for fluke, do you ever catch bluefish? I recently tried these methods and caught a ton of bluefish as well as fluke. Do the hooks you use stand up to the bluefish? If not, what hooks would you recommend. I was using a megabass vision 110. I kept the stock hooks since they held to smallmouth bass in freshwater. The bluefish destroyed them though...
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
I don't keep the stock hooks on 110s even for freshwater, they are junk imo and not just bc they're thin wire - the points roll over if you look at them wrong. For fluke on a 110 you want to use Owner inline singles, size 1 - it will stand up to the abuse and you won't miss any fish, in fact your landing % will be much higher with the larger gap. If bluefish are around I'm not throwing the jerkbait at all, but I've landed teener blues on different jerkbaits running owner singles. You're okay as long as they don't cut you off.

@@CookingandFishingcaught my pb fluke off surf yesterday, 18 inches. The gulp grub with the loop knot or I was using a 1/4-3/8 bucktail single jig was the ticket, all I did was target rock pilings or small jetties on the beach. Is ygk braid good for a spinning reel for distance for light lures. I have been using fin s windtamer on my spinning reels. I some time get wind knots. Any recommendations sir. Keep the lessons coming.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
YGK x8 Upgrade is the best spinning reel braid I've used - 22lb (PE1) for fluke, 16lb if you want to downsize for even more distance. Keep in mind those are actual breaking strengths and we're talking approx. US braid diameters of 6-8lb. Wind knots are usually user error, ie not manually seating the braid on the line roller, winding with too much slack, or using a reel that stacks line poorly etc.

Couple of things: I can literally see where you were from my house. I'm about mile as the crow flies from there. About 5 years ago an angler posted on a large web site that he caught from a boat a DD fluke in that 'area'. I am now convinced he wasn't bsing. If you need a beer or a parking place to access the ocean let me know as I can provide both. To respect your wish about spot burning I'll leave my location etc. out.

I've used the regular Siglon, and hated it. Also tried another sunline braid...forgot the name but it was absolute garbage. Big fan of sniper, hate their PE. YGK x8 Upgrade is the best braid on the market, and I've tried nearly everything. It's smooth, super tight weave, doesn't absorb water, and stays that perfect texture - not too limp not too wiry - for a long time, esp on a baitcaster.

It's fluking man.. . You are covering ground and fishing a realistic presentation. The water is clear so I'm assuming your by the navisink/ Shrewsbury/ or somewhere north on shoreline close to deep dropoffs. I'm sorry but you make it seem like your way is the best and only way to get big fish. Try that method in mud choc milk water in south Jersey. It won't nearly be as productive. Your way works and it's very informative info but there are other ways. Fluking is all about covering ground at the right speed and putting out a realistic presentation. In muddy water add something with some smell. Strips/ gulp /procure etc to your presentation. It ain't rocket science. Let's see your single jig or jerkbait vs skinner on his bucktail /teaser 2 hook rig out on the boat. I think you would be out fished big-time
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
Lol yeah it all makes perfect sense on paper - I only care about results, and I think I've uploaded enough videos on this channel to justify certain claims, though none of it involves a jerkbait being the "best" method for fluke - it's a situational thing and frankly, just a fun way to catch flatfish when you're bored to death of using a jig. I would love to fish against skinner, if you can make that happen DM me lol.
@JigEmUp
@JigEmUp Жыл бұрын
Why the hating and comparing anglers? There are different techniques for different situations and I guarantee you that for every good trip there are plenty of bad ones. Comparing his style and technique is individual to him and not Skinner. His videos don’t lie and the results are incredible. I also love the fact that he’s not pushing his own line of rods, rigs , jigs and baits where he has a huge vested interest $$$ My money is on Rodger 👍
