Күн бұрын

We went out of Jupiter Inlet, Florida with Tony from hooking up fishing charters and our goal was to slow pitch jig all day. Slow pitch jigging is a highly effective method when offshore fishing and you can catch snapper, grouper, tuna, amberjacks and many other species. We were primarily drifting long lines of natural bottom. The key to slow pitch jigging is to maintain as vertical a line as possible. This is done by matching the weight of the jig to the current and speed of the drift, in addition to having a very thin diameter braid such as the 20lb Tufline Domin8 Braid I was fishing. We caught a wide variety of species including porgy, scamp grouper, blackfin tuna, red snapper and even a mako shark! The clean and cook portion from this trip will be in a seperate video!

Super cool seeing a charter captain using a Seaqualizer. I love mine. I feel a lot better about releasing fish suffering from barotrauma with it.

The main problem was I had over 30 ounces of lead in the fish will not get down I had to vent a little bit for the work I fix that problem I got 4 pounds of lead now on the equalizer so it should not be any more problems

It’s such a cool feeling when you go to jig the rod and you discover something is there! It’s also great for discovering new spots. If you come across something on the sonar, you can drop a jig down real quick to test it. If it’s a decent spot you almost always get hit on the first drop.

I noticed white caps from a distance where the rain funnels were coming down. When it caught up to you I saw how the boat was getting tossed around a bit by watching the bow go up and down. Two or three-plus foot caps in going home at about 30-40mph, you are most definitely getting wet.

Groupers are awesome looking. I always wondered why they called Sea Bass - Sea Bass, I always thought a Grouper looked more like a Bass than any fish in the ocean. I’m 50 now, I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance, but scuba diving with Goliath Groupers and petting them, would be my dream. I love that orange fish with the big eyes, incredible color.

Kick the boat in reverse on an idle to hold the jigs straight up and down. Also, the red porgies are considered to be top notched in the Japanese world, and refer to them as "Red Bream."

probably the current is super strong up there, but i have been slow pitch jigging for a couple of years now here in playa del carmen and cozumel, Mexico in 400 to 450 ft and 500 to 600ft respectively for AJ and black fin tuna and i never have had the need for any jig heavier than 150 to 180 gr =/ in fact, in my jig bag, counting my speed jigs, nothig goes over 250gr.. and i have been decently successful =) you guys should come over if you havent been here already to the Yucatan Peninsula and HMU. i have an excelent charter captain for trolling wahoos when in season, spots with AJs, and tuna, you name it, he will put you on it.
