Giant pandas to return to Smithsonian National Zoo in DC

After a tearful goodbye in November when the last three resident pandas at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C., were returned to China, two new giant pandas will be calling the zoo their home. NBC’s Tom Costello reports for TODAY with the exclusive announcement.

I can’t wait to see them! I saw the other two before they went back to China. I want to go to D.C. again and definitely San Diego Zoo to see them. They just are so cute, fluffy, and just a joy!

Hello, are you sure can take good care of them? Dun make bad history again like mei xiang, Tian Tian and son, miracle . We was sad and cried daily for them, heartbreaking 😭😭

I’d like to bring attention to Fubao, a female panda born in South Korea. In 2024, she was returned to China, where she is reportedly living in poor conditions. When people voice their concerns to China about this, their comments are often deleted. Let’s show our support for Fubao and all pandas in similar situations by raising awareness and advocating for their well-being.

@@meatmeat2426 What's fake? Fu Bao is doing well? If you look at the photos so far, you can see how bad Fubao is living in. Fu Bao lost his fur and his sensory hair was cut off. Who cut off her sense hair? The smile disappeared from her Fu Bao's expression. If you love pandas, don't hide the truth.

South Korean people love giant pandas a lot. We had a first baby panda called Fubao born in 2020 in South Korea but she had to return to China this April. Fubao has lost lots of weight and her sensitive hairs around her eyes cut short. Most of all, unautuorized people touch and feed her secretly. If u can't buy what I mean, check videos on her on KZfaq. I just want Fubao to be happy wherever she is like when she was happy in South Korea. Please, pay attention to her. Ur attention to her is very precious. U can save her from what she is going through.

Seriously 😅back to Korea ? Next to the Korean Panda field is a rollercoaster, all the sounds of people screaming and machines running. Pandas are quiet animals, you wouldn't know that, would you? Visit China sometime, they live in a natural environment and not in the noise of an amusement park. I also really hope that Lepao Aibao will come back to China sooner rather than later, the Korean parks are just too noisy!

Save Fubao!! She is a panda born in Korea. Returned at 2024.4.3 to China's shenshuping base, it is at risk of hospitality and abuse during quarantine. Pandas are vulnerable to infection, so they should not be touched carelessly. Tge san Diego zoo Will be receiving 2ndw 🐼🐼 by end of June, according to the zoo officials. Because of that, they are hiring more food court servers, ground keepers, to anticipate more visitors.

They just got out of the endangered species list, but not quite there yet to be freed into their captivity. That’s why the zoos are helping them to be safe while the pandas are being becoming more populated in a safe environment. They will be out in their captivity when they all are at numbers where we won’t lose them.
