I’ve been riding a giant trance 27.5 for around a year and it has been amazing it is great for trail/xc riding but it can also handle downhill/gravity. It’s been ridden at spider mountain many times, Angel Fire, and purgatory and it still rides great I’m very pleased with the bike.

Awesome job explaining the maestro suspension design. I'm riding a Trance 2 29er currently so this helps me better understand the ride characteristics of the bike. It definitely is a very good pedal machine to the point where I'm rarely taking the LSC out of fully open, especially when I'm doing a techy climb (which is most trails near Denver). It doesn't do great on the square hits though since it doesn't have a rearward axle path. Really playful shorter travel bike though and as long as I don't blow through the first half of travel is quite supportive. Definitely has some trouble with big hucks to flat and high speed lose baby heads (both of these are partly just due to the fact that it's only got 115/130 of travel though). The stock suspension does seem pretty well tuned for this though and I still rarely bottom out completely on the rear. Looking at eventualy upgrading to an Eminent Onset LT or MT after getting to do a free demo and absolutely loving it. Would love to see a video on their AFS system.

Because of that Giant's "signature" leverage ratio, shocks tend to overheat on steep bumpy sections closer to the end of travel as the shock suffers from more friction.

Another awesome video. It's very interesting that the 29er has more anti-squat than de 27.5er, but less pedal kick-back. I love the trend towards more pedal-friendly enduro bikes. I think Propain has nailed that concept. I think it would be very informative to analyze their Tyee.

I love this type of videos. Very interesting and informative. I ride a Guerrilla Gravity with their version of four bar linkage. I tried coil and air and both love it. I currently have a coil shock on 165mm Megatrail and climbs great. No need for lock outs.

That makes total sense, that's why no matter how I set up my suspension the small bump compliance would be absolutely shit, and all softening the suspension did was cause me to bottom out more often while still feeling inactive for small bumps. I had always felt the pedal kickback, I didn't know it was just at the beginning of the stroke though.

I haw reign 27.5 and the shox whas bottoming out very isely so I inserted 0.82 spacer with 150 psy 19% sag and it whas still botoming out befor the fork (fox 36) which has 55 psy 20% sag and I em 67kg and it rerly uses all trawel. Than i felt the shox wanting to push me ower the bars on ruf rocky terein because the litle amount of sag compared to the fork. I tried fiting the bigest spacer 1.02 so that i could drop presure but it cudent fizicli fit. I know that it isen't recomended for my 205+62.5 shox but is there any way of fiting it? PLEASE HELP Sory for mi english

You have already became my favorite MTB channel to geek over. Are you planning to make a video on Trek ABP? My Trek Fuel Ex 2018 changed to become much easy to pedal bob after I changed chainring from 32t to 28t. That was to get much easier climbing gears since my trails require relentless climbing before all. Can you confirm that?

Another great video. I would be interested in a video comparing the Unno Dash linkage to the DW link on say a Pivot Switchblade (the earlier model (2016-2019). Comparing them visually, they seem pretty similar, with the Unno perhaps putting the IC a bit further forward. Given how similar the designs are, I'm interested in what defining characteristics allow Unno to get around the patents on DW link.

Awesome analysis and comparison! Now that you have data on the maestro and Giant Reign, would it be easy enough to compare against a Liv Hail (and maybe include the Giant Trance too). It would just be interesting to see how changes in geometry affect the ride!

I only have experience with the Giant Trance 2, 150/140. I'm 210 lbs dry and with; hydration, tools and gear add another 10lbs+. I have to run my rear at 250 psi to feel efficient pedaling. I still bottom out. The Revel Rail has my attention because of the CBF suspension. At least their explanation sounds cool.

Great video, but can you explain how the low anti-squat at the end of the travel reduces kick-back, surely the more the bike compresses the more chain growth = pedal kick back? I read the same somewhere but cant get my head around it. cheers

Amazing video! I have the Reign 29 2 and even with two spacers, it goes through travel fast. Would a MegNeg help me in this regard? Secondly, I have a 32t oval chain ring on the bike now and all bikes come with a 34 or 32t. I am going down to a 30t oval. Will I notice any pedal kick back on the descent?
