*본 연주는 아티스트의 연주를 카피한것이 아닌 제가 피아니스트의 연주를 분석하고 편곡한 연주입니다 *This is not a real playing of themselves, I've made arrangements in their style. sheet music : jimindorothy-english.com/shop/?idx=52

Here’s a little fun fact: Erroll Garner never learned how to read sheet music. When people asked him why, he replied that people pay him to play music, not to read sheet music

The thing that most intimidated me during music school was my lack of scale fundamentals. I could play them all with my eyes closed, arpeggios and fifths included but for some reason I got jumbled and really depressed in the practice rooms when I had to sit down and actually KNOW what I was doing. Wow. First time I’ve ever tried to describe that almost a decade later. I miss my reference 36 Tenor so much… worst thing I’ve ever done was give that horn up. I’m in the process of getting a new one. 3K away baby!! Haha. So much lost time to make up for.

it's more common these days for people to learn how to play an instrument without sheet music. In my opinion sheet music confuses people because it's a really non-intuitive way of notating music. Why is C so special, for example?

Fun fact, sounds ate also just high frequency "percussion". Jacob Collier demonstrated this in a video wherein he accelerated a polyrhythm and it sounded like a chord because each percussive rhythm gets interpreted by the brain as a tone. It's wild.

Wait, does anyone else notice how amazing this is? This lovely lady is a true musical savant - she can see through the surface phenomena to the basic patterns underneath, and then she has command of an essentially limitless technique to realize her understanding. "Giant Steps" is a notoriously difficult piece to negotiate in any one style. As a minor aside, I am still waiting for a Tommy Flanagan lesson. But more to the point, J., please put out more videos of you swinging out with improvisations in your own style.

"improvisations in your own style" - this is actually an interesting point. I am an amateur piano player so I am not sure I should judge anything related to playing. But as a listener, I was so so positively impressed by Jimin - and I enjoyed it a lot - and I learned a lot. So this is great. Own style (and I am writing generally here now, not in relation to Jimin) is a different dimension. It might be related to understanding other styles but I would (and I hope psychologists or learning experts would agree) like to understand "own style"/ creativity as something which is weakly (co-) related to replication (at whatever level the replication is - I think one can make similar arguments in science)

A stunning performance. I keep coming back to this video. To master just one of these styles to this standard represents a lifetimes work for mere mortals..The late British actor/ comedian/ pianist Dudley Moore worshiped Errol Garner, & based his style largely on that of the great man. Dudley was no slouch, but when he heard that Errol Garner was in the audience at one of his shows, he ran out of the club into the night, never to return.
