Extreme weather, a cancelled festival and, finally, a party: we follow a London soundsystem's eventful trip to the Norfolk countryside.
For the past three summers, Aneesh and Amit Patel, along with a team of colleagues and friends, have taken the Giant Steps soundsystem on a weekend-long road trip from East London to Norfolk. It's a sweaty task that involves carrying huge speaker stacks down flights of stairs, packing them into a truck and reassembling everything a few hours later at their countryside destination: Houghton Festival. In 2017 and 2018, the Giant Steps tent at Houghton was a domed, enchantingly lit arena filled with plants, smiling faces and a very cute DJ setup.
Houghton 2019 is, of course, the festival that never happened. An extreme weather forecast led to it being cancelled for safety reasons. In this film, we trace the Giant Steps soundsystem's 2019 journey from London to Norfolk and back again. On the surface, it was an ill-fated expedition, a huge amount of effort drained into a festival that never happened. But what unfolded showed the resilience and togetherness of the Giant Steps family-and, ultimately, ended with a party.
