Fun fact - Avocados only ripen after being removed from the tree. I'd imagine they'd be transported on the branch before being removed. If you want to speed the ripening of an Avocado, put it in a paper/cloth (not plastic) bag with a banana or apple. Avocados are stimulated into ripening by the hormone ethylene, which is produced naturally by the fruit itself - and, to varying degrees, by all other fruit - Bananas and Apples have loads of it so will speed the ripening. *the more you know*

if you go by plane and are a US citizen, I'm pretty sure you don't need a passport to get to Alaska or Hawaii. by car for Alaska, I think you have to go through Canada, so yeah, the potato would probably need a passport since no one's going to fly a 6-ton building over the international date line

Many fruits can be soaked in a mix of water and vinegar for a time (maybe an hour or two? Not sure what's best) to make them last much longer than they otherwise would. My understanding is thst the vinegar kills bacteria on them that would have caused them to go bad sooner.
