BOOKS ABOUT ISRAEL BY TODD FINK: www.toddmichaelfink.com/books
Location
1. Gibeon is located about 6 miles (10 km.) northwest of Jerusalem.
2. Today, it is known as Nebi Samuel or Nabi Samwil, which means “The Prophet Samuel,” because it’s believed Samuel’s tomb is located here.
3. Just below this high place and to the north is the ancient city of Gibeon with its ruins, known today as Al Jib.
4. Gibeon is on top of a high mountain with a spectacular view of Jerusalem and the surrounding area. In fact, you can see Jerusalem quite easily from this site. Here’s a look at Gibeon taken from the Mt. of Olives. It becomes clear that this spot was a significant high place and fits the biblical descriptions of many events found in Scripture and history.
5. This high place is about 3,000 feet or 908 meters above sea level.
6. It’s located on an ancient route that led from the coastal plain passing through Beit Horon, this high place of Gibeon, and on to Jerusalem. Today highways 436 and 443 mark this route.
Historical Background
1. Before the conquest of the Israelites, Gibeon was a Canaanite city.
2. Gibeon was a popular place in the Bible and is mentioned 43 times.
3. Its name means “Hill City” and it’s located in the heart of the Tribe of Benjamin.
4. It was a high place of worship throughout much of Israel’s history, and the tabernacle was here during the times of King David and King Solomon.
5. The tomb of the Prophet Samuel is believed to be located inside the synagogue part of the building.
6. Excavations, which are still ongoing, have uncovered the remains of settlements from both the First Temple (7th century BC) and Second Temple (Hasmonean Period 167 BC-63 BC) can be found here.
7. During the Byzantine period (5th-7th century AD), a church and monastery were built at this high place of Gibeon. Also, in the Byzantine period around 500 AD, Christian tradition said that the prophet’s bones were relocated here, and a monastery was built at the site to honor Samuel.
8. The Crusaders then built a church and fortress over the monastery in the 12 century AD. The main structure that can be seen today is a magnificent Crusader-era church and it's one of only four that survived after the Muslim conquests of the Crusaders. It survived because the Muslims turned this church into a mosque, and they still use it today.
9. After Saladin conquered much of Israel in 1187, the church and monastery were damaged.
10. In 1267 the Mamluks captured the area and controlled the Holy Land until 1517. In the 14th century, the Mamelukes converted the church to a mosque. Remains from this period include two ceramic ovens near the stables.
11. Because it’s believed Samuel was buried here, along with the biblical history of the site, in the 15th-century Jews built a synagogue adjacent to the mosque and resumed pilgrimages to this site.
12. It appears that later on the mosque was renovated by the Ottomans in 1730.
13. The building that we see today was rebuilt by the British after World War 2. Both the mosque and synagogue share the same building.

Gibeon in the Bible
1. This ancient city is named after the Gibeonites who tricked Joshua into making a treaty with them. (Joshua 9:37).
2. The amazing miracle of the sun and moon standing still happened at Gibeon (Joshua 10:1-14:)
3. Gibeon (Gibeah) was the hometown of King Saul (1 Samuel 10:26).
4. Gibeon is the likely place the Prophet Samuel anointed Saul to be the first king of Israel (1 Samuel 10:17:-24).
5. According to Scripture, Samuel died and was buried in a place called Ramah, which was the hometown of the prophet (1 Samuel 25:1).
The location of Ramah is not known, but according to its meaning in Hebrew, which means heights, it should be on a high hill in an area close by to Jerusalem. This area certainly fits this description but we’re not totally certain.
6. The tabernacle resided at the high place of Gibeon during the reigns of David and Solomon (1 Chronicles 21:28-29).
7. God caused a famine in Israel because King Saul broke the covenant Joshua made with the Gibeonites (2 Samuel 21:1).
8. Soon after Solomon became King, he went to Gibeon. Here he received supernatural wisdom, wealth, and power to use for ruling God’s people (1 Kings 3:3-5).

It's very interesting that Joshua erred in not asking for God's instructions regarding the Gibeonites, yet God used that anyway to defeat the 5 kings, and even gave Joshua the most amazing miracle ever in history to encourage him.

Dear brother/sister in christ please pray for me. Finished my chemotherapy for cancer. At my lowest point in chemotherapy, my two daughters moved out suddenly, my mother died and my wife almost died due to covid. I suffer from anxiety attacks and depression. I'm suddenly an empty nester. I have been crying every day since February 27th the day my eldest daughter left. I'm anxious about my situation and feel like I'm not needed anymore. Feel like a senior in an old folks home and just waiting for the rapture or for God to take me home.im expected back at work on August 3rd and I feel fearful. I have 2.5 years left before I can get a full pension. Also in debt for$26,000. Please pray for me.

I can pray, but this lesson encourages us to pray. Sometimes..well often we don't know what to pray but take your list of anxieties to our father in heaven through Yeshua. Just thinking how Yeshua said don't be anxious about anything. Am realising that anxieties can be like idols because we spend so much of our time fiddling with them. Let us pray that we our heavenly father will give us a real handle on our anxieties. You know I am moving and I have boxes everywhere in the house and I had got to a stage where I was really anxious and stressed and one day I decided that what I needed to do was to put those boxes away because they were causing such anxiety So I put all the boxes packed and cetera in one small room and to my amazement my anxiety and stress just went away .....straight away I couldn't believe it, the very fact of just not being able to see those problems were solved by a simple simple action and so I think if we pray to our father in heaven to help us put away our anxieties so we can't see them and fiddle with them and let them cause our stress that he will give us the answers. I pray that God gives you the answers and that you take a stand against your anxieties ...pray be gone anxieties Amen.

Going to leave where im at, have to go into the wilderness to wander again. It’s scary and it’s hard to just jump in a go to the next place that you don’t know or know any person. Can’t seem to find where I belong, just hardship. Please pray for me if you felt lead to. Bless you all.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. What can the world offer you that lasts? Nothing. Everything in this world will pass away. Therefore, it is hopeless to cling to material possessions or earthly status. In the end, none of these earthly things will matter. However, those who love God and do his will shall have eternal life. Rather than invest in earthly goods, invest in the Lord. Where your time and money are, there your heart will be. Spend your time and money investing in doing God's will and you will never be separated from him.Dear God, it is easy to be enticed by the things of this world. When I am tempted by earthly goods or earthly status, remind me that they are not eternal. The only thing that is eternal is your love. I don't consider what Copernicus discovered about the Earth revolving around the Sun, instead of the other way round, so much more scientific than all the other everyday knowledge that we have about everything else. Don't know if Joshua understood much about astronomy, I don't think he did, but I believe what he effectively prayed for, was the lengthening of the day, which would give them enough daylight to defeat such a vast army since they could not fight in darkness. A man of God once said that if a person's heart is sincere and they make a prayer to God, even if it is uttered upside down, God hears it the right way up. I believe this was the case with Joshua. Those who have great faith in God have always found that in the moment when it really matters He is already ahead of them. Before the prolonged day that enabled the victory of the Israelites, there must have been other events taking place in the sky that resulted from the phenomenon, but whatever it was, it contributed to the defeat of their enemies since as it says, hailstones fell and destroyed many of them. So things that may appear as natural or, even, accidental, can be the agents that God uses for His own purpose but, we should always bear in mind that God can never be evil or unjust, if we judge Him as such, then it is because we judge Him by our own sense of righteousness.

A planet's gravitational pull is determined by its mass, not by its speed of rotation. The heavier an object is, the greater the pull exerted, regardless of whether or not it rotates. So even if the earth stopped turning completely, we'd all stay firmly planted on it.

The Biblical, motionless flat Earth gives reasons how the sun and moon could have stood still, because they're being projected through the Firm ament of Job 37:18. Even Ezekiel chapter one describes Ezekiel seeing through the Firm ament.

@@neilmcphee1554 as a pizza lover and Bible believer, I believe the surface of Earth is round like a pizza. The real question is, how is it a grown adult like yourself not know the difference between a circle and a sphere. Isaiah certainly did, as illustrated in Isaiah 22:18 and Isaiah 40:22, but I wouldn't expect a non-Bible reader as yourself to know that.
@Leafbeet

@@neilmcphee1554 I'm not sure if you believe in the biblical firmament or not, but i'll give you a summary and verses. Basically we live in a fishbowl. You start in Genesis, because this clears people from calling the rest of the verses poetic since it is outlined in the creation account, where there is only water. Nothing else, just water. Now in the midst, middle of that water, God places a firmament and divides water from water. Now there is water above the firmament, and water below the firmament. A gap if you will. In this gap of air, where water is above and water below, is where the earth is formed out of the bottom portion of water. Basically that is the gist of it. The firmament itself is a structure. A firm one, hence the word. Raqiya in hebrew, meaning to beat out a dish. It is not an ever expansive universe, but a very limited dome. The stars, sun and moon, are all within it. Meaning those heavenly bodies are not lightyears away at all, nor millions of times the earths mass. This too takes away any other planets as well, or traveling to far distant places. Above the firmament, above the water, is God's throne. The heaven of heavens. This is where Jesus is now. Why He said He is from above, and why He ascended upwards. No portals, no trillions of lightyears, He just went straight up. “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:2‬ Just water to start with “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:6‬ After light, he puts the firmament in the water “And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:8‬ God calls the firmament by a new name. Heaven. Throughout scripture the firmament is now synonymous with the word heaven. “And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:9‬ The bottom portion of water brings forth earth. Note there is still water above. “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:14‬ The heavenly bodies are in the firmament, not outside. Fast forward to Noah. “In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭7:11‬ The windows of heaven part is the firmament. Windows can only be placed in firm structures. Many creationists only talk about the fountains of the great deep because their cosmology is incomplete. They even made up canopy theory to try to substantiate the windows of heaven phrase. Water fell through holes, windows, in the firmament. The flood event also shows that the waters aren't that high up if they just came down and flooded the world. “and the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭8:3‬ This dismisses canopy theory, because the waters returned. And here are firmament verses throughout the rest of the bible apart from Genesis. "Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?" Job 37:18 Having to do with the solidity of the firmament, and its material "It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:" Isaiah 40:22 You have curtains in your house i assume. God spreads the heavens/firmament like those same form of curtains and spreads them as a tent. Which is the shape of a dome. Not to mention that God says He sits over the earth, which is missing in modern day cosmology, but the text clearly says it. “And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.” Ezekiel 1:25 Firmament being above our heads "Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens!" Psalms 148:4 Fully consistent with there being water above us. As shown in previous verses. "The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever." Psalm 29:10 Referring to His throne above the firmament, above the water. "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." Revelation 19:11 Note how heaven opens. Only structures open, like a door in a house. Not empty space, i.e. the firmament. “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” Revelation 6:14 Another reference to the heavens having solidity, referring to it as a scroll being rolled up. "And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind." Revelation 6:13 Saying that stars will fall from heaven not like an endless sea of stars, but a tree of stars. A tree is limited in range, goes up only so high, and keeps all of its fruit in the upper branches. Not to mention that it circles over the top, similar to a dome. As we already saw in Genesis, all of the stars are in the firmament. There are other topics to unearth whenever you are interested. Such as, how the heavenly bodies behave biblically, or how many verses we can count together that says that the earth is motionless.
