The sound of a Hummingbird guitar can be heard on thousands of classic rock songs from the 60's and 70's. The popular square-shoulder dread Gibson has a huge yet balanced tone and this particular model features a sunburst finish not typically offered on a Hummingbird. What do you think??

I got one for myself for a present -- it was a very big birthday. It just suits my voice perfectly. It's my partner in crime. Strumming or finger-picking. It just sounds "right" for me. And it's got the right amount of cosmetic features. Not too plain and not too showy.

I have abandoned my loyalty to Martin. I bought a J-45 late last week and can’t put it down. Love Gibson tone, neck profile, and workmanship. The frets are PERFECT - due to the PLEK process that Gibson performs on it.

I'm a Martin guy. Have a 000-15SM and a D-18. Last week was talking to the owners of my local guitar shop and they wanted to show me a J-45 they had. So I played it a little and wow, I cant be 100% sure, but i may have liked its sound more than my D18. The only thing I didn't like is the sticky lacquered neck whereas my Martin necks are like satin and faster. But man it sounded like a dream.

endocry Yes - the sound immediately hit me - it’s reminds me of the Acoustics I grew up with in the 1960’s - very balanced & harmonic. I also love the short scale of the J45 and other smaller sized Gibson Guitars. As I age, and I’m 59 now and have some major health issues, the stretch on a 25.5” Martin-type guitar is getting tougher and tougher. So, the playability of the Gibson’s are fantastic. Don’t pay full price. Look for deals - they’re out there. The 2 I bought - one had been in the store for 2 years. The other was used. No need to spend $5000 on a Gibson. Also - the frets are as close to perfection as possible. I did have fret issues with Martin MIM guitars before. None on the Made in the USA Martin’s. But, I did have to shave the saddle on the USA Martin’s. I had to do nothing on the setup of the Gibson’s. I do my own setup, as I am a Luthier too.

I bought a Gibson Hummingbird Vintage back in 2016. I brought in a huge boatload of stuff to trade in, and they took it all and gave me full credit for all of it. Paul was so great to work with. This Bird rivals mine. It was hard to choose between the Vintage and the Standard, but the Vintage had an extra oomph.

This guitar's tone comes through especially well through your mic, balanced, sweet sounding and clear. The Hummingbird has a reputation hard to beat, and the dark sunburst looks even better than the traditional cherry s/b. Was there ever a better guitar for sustained, even strumming and vocal accompaniment than this? It also pairs up extremely compatibly with a banjo when played together..

Your presentations are recorded very well. They represent each guitar as if you were playing the guitar without a mic. Love that vintage sunburst hummingbird. I’d gladly sell off a custom shop electric to purchase a hummingbird like that one. Btw- have you compared the Dove with Martin D-28. Same woods scale length too🤔. Would love to own a Dove in vintage sunburst or an aged top. Sometimes less is more depending on your visual preference.

First, props for the Martin HD-28. I have found that I can walk into any guitar shop and play every Martin and the HD28 or maybe HD35 will always sound the best when I play it since I don't usually pick hard enough for a D28 to start to balance out. But I think I might prefer the Hummingbird...

One of the best looking hummingbirds i have ever seen!!I am very disappointed in the sound,it sounds way too bright /jangly /metallic for a mahogany guitar!! it could be new strings giving it that sound, but i would not buy it if i tested it and it sounded like this! it sounds almost exactly like my dove, glad to say my hummingbird sounds lovely and warm/woody☺☺ love watching quinton and paul doing the demos,i like them chatting, but would like the clips to be a few minutes longer for more guitar time.

I just bought this guitar yesterday. I still have to fetch it and may not be able to play it for a while (long story) but have wanted a Hummingbird for ages. I have 2 Guild D55's. One that I bought in 1981 and then a 2018/9. My heart belonged to Guild for 38 years but their offerings since bought by Cordoba have been unappealing. When comparing the Guild to the Hummingbird you are looking at 2 different tone woods - mahogany versus Indian rosewood. I also have a variety of other guitars. One thing I've learnt is to keep an open mind about everything. As for Martin - they are gorgeous but I can't find a neck style that suits me. I had a beautiful HD28V - gorgeous but playability for me was not the best. I also have Taylors that have wonderful necks - also different tone woods. In a fire - out of all of my guitars I'd grab my Guild 1981 D55! Thanks for the demo, guys. My only request is more playing, different styles and please - let's hear sustain of the guitars.

I don´t get it why Gibson doesn´t make a J-50 Squareshoulder like they did in the 60s - but is selling the less dearest Hummingbird, the Walnut Studio for a staggering 2.2k$ (the sound, well...). Maybe Eastman is fixing that sometimes for a thousand less - I´d been in...

How does one really know though what guitar was played on 1000’s of songs? Albums very rarely listed what instruments / brands were played on the albums back in the 50’s and 60’s. Beautiful guitar though!!

$3,800 at Music Villa but, then, in this guitar range ($3000 to $5000), at this level (focus market), most folks are less concerned about costs. Admittedly, for someone graduating from a $1,000 guitar to a very nice guitar (sans the "birds" graphics!) like these Gibsons, Taylors, Martins, etc, $3,000+ might present some "sticker shock" ;-)
