I prefer the 345, simply because it is lighter, meaning I can run away from people faster after stealing it.

They both sound pretty much the same at the beginning, clean low on the neck. Kinda weak, I think it was the amp though. The 335 definitely has a very nice sound up higher on the neck. Both guitars though really sound very similar in this video. I've heard the 335 on many amps and they have a unique tone from the les paul... but this video they sound very much the same

To my great surprise, I'm going with the Les Paul. I love 345's, have one now, and had a really fantastic '67 many years ago. Perhaps that was the best guitar for me, personally, I've ever owned. But the clarity and openness of this Les Paul is quite good. And on all sounds and pedals. Fuller range of tone and better balance, not as dark through the mids. Very nice demo, Mike - again!

They both sound great, if you liked the Les Paul better, it's probably because it was slightly louder than the es-335. If you were to volume match them, it might be closer than you think.

Both are great! .. and honestly your licks too, Mike! :-D But somehow, they have their own unique characters, between solid body & semi hollow. You might try Gibson Classic 57 pick ups & swipe on it. I have tried it myself and it is absolute an awesome sound. Very good level of clarity, Mike! Try it :-)

I have a similar Fender SuperSonic 22W amp and other pedals. My Les Paul has P90's and a chambered body. My ES-347 is a BBKING with f-holes, and is more a 355 than a 345/335. While I have changed the neck pickup from a Series 7 ( Dirty fingers with a gold cover) to a Classic'57, the differences between them is the same as in the video. The LP has a very percussive treble end, and would be a pain in the ass to a jazz player. The 335/345/347/355 all share the same body and sound the same, with a more mushy treble, and more bass output than a LP. An LP has a lot of midrange, and a well defined treble. The pickups are so similar in this example they almost sound the same, but the semi-hollow will feedback, especially on the little stages we are asked to play on during gigs, especially at high volumes. The air the semihollow has does make a difference, MUCH more than an ES-Les Paul, simply because the body is bigger= more air and more chance of a feedback loop developing.

I would like 1 of each. I have a Gibson ES-335 custom lefty. Ironically I don't play it much as I spend most of my time playing acoustic guitars. In this video I think the ES has a slightly better smoother tone to my liking. Also I think the LP is off just a smidge off in tuning. Some might like the slight off tune thing for a garage rock sound. Yes, I would still like to get me a LP, but in this challenge I give slight edge to the ES. I'll be taking my '87 Nashville custom lefty out of the case again soon. I play acoustics every day and every night. Nice video.

To my ear, the ES's semi-hollow body gives it a slight edge over the LP on the clean tones (or at least is has a bit more openness and clarity). But under any gain the LP just overshadows the ES. But... both sounded fantastic! :) Great vid. Great fun! :)
@SaxJockey
@SaxJockey 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed, shredders rightly gravitate to the LP, rythm/blues/jazz/low to moderate gain players gravitate to the ES. For those that want something in between and lightweight there is both the LP ES or ES 339 in Gibson or Epiphone; spoilt for choice really.

The 345 is more versatile, the LP being slightly better for aggressive soloing on the bridge PU. The LP seemed to have a slight intonation problem (could hear it on the D chord). Nice playing & editing, thanks for the upload \m/
@ES335CD
@ES335CD 7 жыл бұрын
I noticed the same thing but it's not intonation. I've had both les paul standards and 335s. The problem actually has to do with the break angle of the g and d strings from the nut to the tuner on all Gibsons. My experience has been that it is much more of a problem on les pauls then 335s because I think the headstock is not quite as long so the angles slightly more dramatic. I've even gotten rid of a couple LPS because I couldn't stand how they wouldn't stay in tune. The strings are getting hung up in the nut so every time he bends and releases they don't go all the way back in tune. I found out the solution was to treat the nut to a little graphite pencil action between string changes problem solved.
@frantisca
@frantisca 7 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Doehne absolutely. Nut adjustment (sometimes) and lubrication is the key to good tuning. Sometimes though, the ABR saddles wriggle up and down. I changed all Gibson bridges to either TonePros or Faber: perfect intonation \m/

I used to own 2 Gibson Les Pauls - but I sold them when I got my Gibson Custom Shop es335. The Les Pauls are fantastic guitars, lovely to play - but the always felt and sounded to me as if they had a compressor pedal in them which you couldn't switch off - they even sounded that way acoustically. The 335 on the other hand, had more dynamics, more light and shade to it's voice, which I much prefer. As about 50% of what I do uses a clean sound, I always ended up using the semi.
@TheFRiNgEguitars
@TheFRiNgEguitars 7 жыл бұрын
Both Gee-Tars sound amazing. Each guitar has an advantage, the ES for Jazz and neck clean tones, the LP has a more defined attack on the bridge. Each guitar could serve well as the main axe for a rock/blues/jazz gig, but the ES sweeter for jazz/blues sound, the LP for rockin it, more pedal friendly, especially fat and articulate on the bridge pickup.

For my money thee 345 is better! It has a certain warmth on the cleans that the les paul doesnt have and then it a slightly brighter tone with gain which is what I really like. The les paul is great but I prefer the sound of the 345, both great guitars though however!!

I got the impression that the 345 is easier to play, the phases sounded more clear than when executed on the LP. Are the necks profiles different? Other than that, if you don't use high gain distortion, the 345 is a better option, but if you want to play from delta blues to metal, than take the LP. Both are amazing instruments.
