@@sppypp3606 even then it's not the money that spoiled them it was the lack of discipline from the parents. You could be poor like they were in this video, and still be spoiled. If you let a child do as they please and don't teach them to respect every person and don't punish them for bad actions, then they are spoiled bc they will have the mind set that the world revolves around them and they can do what they want with no repercussion. The 'spoiled' you are talking about is the 'get whatever you want' spoiled, but there is more then one type of spoiled. Anyone can be and is spoiled in one way or another.

The father was very generous but a bit callous with his son. I felt very sad for the boy when he came across his father's message that said, "someday you will be a great man. This really warmed the boys heart, thinking it was for him but his father coldly says, " it's not for you". I would have given it to him & made another one. Still, a lovely story but let's not forget to encourage our own kids, even if they are able bodied and seemingly don't seem needy. They have feelings too.

Vlad Vladyslav I don't think I missed the point at all. There is an old saying, "Charity begins at home". This boy was motherless & to a degree also felt fatherless. You can't buy love. You said it yourself,care about the other persons feelings. He didn't seem to care enough about the most important other person in his life, his son. I am not negating that the father thought only of himself. Surely it was good that he helped others, but he was blind to the needs of his own son. We all do the best we can & sometimes miss the mark. The word sin actually came from an old archery term meaning, to miss the mark. Wishing you a blessed day.

Say, the father did not prioritize his son, but he did give him the essential needs... Food, a house, clothes and education... He may not have given him the attention he needed but that's because he had work therefore he's tired and needs time and effort to keep on giving him the things he needed... He wasn't successful maybe because he wasn't so smart and all such... Obviously something must have happened to the mother given she's not there... If you only think that this was all about the trophy, then you must be a REALLY dense person... Think about it, if say, he decided to have a great relationship with his child... Would the child have gotten the things he needed? Education? Food? A house? Clothes? No. He would've spent most of his time building a great relationship with his child and barely any time at work, it's effort and time consuming... For you to say this... You must be quite close minded... I don't mean to offend you... But molomosk123, if he was a foolish father... He wouldn't be so smart to name his donations after his son and to teach him that I quote "Being rich is not how much you earn, but how much you give". They may be "vague" lessons but for what's worth he understood it by himself, it's best if he learns it eventually rather than being spoon-fed all the answers and walks of life... With no actions or examples, really? So you think everything he did was just talk? You mean he didn't work his ass off to help his son have a better future? You mean he didn't strive to make other people feel better about themselves given that they were in a worse condition than themselves? If he took his child to his many outings,if he made him involved, do you think he would have time to study, to go to school, what about his school? What about his childhood? Is it just going to be the father's workplace? I can't believe people are this close-minded, so dense... There is more than meets the eye...

Yes this father was a failure.... not because he was poor and had a physical hard job. He was wrong by not teaching his son to be proud of himself, while he was still alive. A father is supposed to teach these values to his child , while he is still alive , and not let him discover it , or guess it, when It is too late. Why did he hid the charity work from his son, instead of showing this good example of " success" ? How could a little boy understand why the father was taking his pocket money ? This where the father failed. No wonder why his son did not visit him.

only thing that bothers me a bit is the son's attitude in the beginning, the father worked hard already to get him into school, drives him there daily, offers money in case he needs some, doesn't spend money for himself (drinking, drugs,...) and he just keeps ignoring him, many other kids would probably wish for such a father instead, that "I wasn't happy / I didn't think he was smart / ..." lines kinda made the son look like a spoiled brat for me but all in all a very good idea, inspiring and definetely worth watching

My original family name was also Lim. I know there maybe millions around the world whose surname is Lim. But my major believe is exactly the same as his father's is, I'm a Buddhist. Albeit my birth surname is in Thai as it was changed to in over a century ago as always a thing supposed to be here, I'm proud to be one of Lim family, and so proud to believe like his father does. In Buddhism, You become a rich person because you donated in past lives. If while you donated you've made wishes for only to be rich, you'll get very rich, but your mentality won't develop as a result of those donations because mental development wasn't what you wish for. You maybe very rich but that doesn't mean you're the happiest person. In contrast, if while you're donating you think only to make people happy, you'll become a marvelous person whose heart is of gold and who would become a refuge for mass of suffering people from then and even in the further lives. The Buddha himself started his journey to become a Buddha via giving his all to people.

What makes me cry, is to know that there are a lot of people outthere like his dad ! But still, you don't hear about them in the news, magazines, radio... Is there hope for the new generations ?
@AarBearCares

I've learned over time that giving in "silence" is the way to go. You don't give solely to be seen in the news, magazines, radio, etc. Even if you never make it on any of those mediums, it still doesn't matter. When you are doing something good for someone else, you don't need to advise it to people. You give...because you are selfless. That's it. =]
@kpandong
@kpandong 10 жыл бұрын
***** Oh yeah. Definitely. lol I didn't mean that the only way to be a selfless person is to give in silence. Of course it could be in "silence" or using the media to your advantage. My post was a reply to how the original poster phrased the message. I didn't believe it was always about the hearing yourself in the news, radio, newspaper, but how you use those resources to your advantage. =] Also, what I meant by "silence" wasn't really silence, as in by yourself or ONLY solo. You could be by yourself, but when I meant silence, I meant not showing off that you are giving or helping others. There are some instances when people just don't understand you as a person, just like this video, only to find out that all this time you have been using all your resources to give back to those who really needed it. That's what I meant by silence. I think we both are talking about similar things, but are just saying it in a different way. Haha!

AaronZimbabwe Leung Yes it matters, specially when you're a child and you're developing your moral values ! They don't learn from your silence ! Kids want to be like Justin Bieber, play GTA5 and kill players online ! They don't enjoy nature, they spend their entire weekends on a bloody room and everyone think it's fine ! These caring people should be on the news, radios, magazines talking about what really makes someone happy !

Saqi Saud - not all americans have it easy. so many are living in poverty here... I think the message of this film is beautiful and universal to the goodness that mankind is capable. Let's not drag it down with racist or anti-american bigotry. There are wealth and selfish people in all parts of the world, yes some more than others.... but you're entitled to your opinion. It's funny though, I thought I'd see nothing but nice comments here, shame its devolved in to this kind of talk.

The moral lesson: a gross lack of communication can mess up your son's emotional development. Seriously, showing your boy what you've been doing all this could've really helped. Instead, he hogs all the emotional gratification (of helping others) all to himself. Then he decides to surprise his boy with the truth. Posthumously. He could've used the selfless acts as common ground for building a closer relationship with his son. Then there's the motivational card: "It's not for you." Dafuq!? Could've he said something along the lines of, "This isn't for you, I still need to make another." Or maybe give that one to his kid then make another. Sorry, I know I'm spoiling this for everyone else, it's just that this story could've gone a whole lot better, the kid could've had a much, MUCH better childhood, if only his dad actually thought this through. Keeping his sickness a secret, that's fine, but the least he could've done is shared his joy (helping people) with his kid.

the problem is that people do mistakes in real life , they really do; and this father wasn't a perfect father, he was just a normal perso who makes a lot of mistakes , hidding his truth from his son was a mistake , that doesn't make him any less than a great father ... however , the son didn't show any sign of gratitude to his father not even a little and this was the real tragedy in the senario .. if only he cared more of his father he might have had the chance to be part of the good work his father did .. saddly the world is not what we think it should be , the world is what it is and that is the wisdom of life ... such stories happen every where all the time , and this is a great film that spots the light on this hidden part of humanity that cinamas normally don't just because it doesn't sell tickets !
@9f81rsd00
@9f81rsd00 7 жыл бұрын
You favor the father a little too much. You fail to mention that the son himself made mistakes, errors, common to any human being and more so for a child who takes what he sees: a father who neglected him and spent more time and effort helping other people. His father never made any attempt to enlighten his son on the gravity of his own actions, choosing instead to deny his son a proper explanation. Now his son is left with a lifelong regret of never having truly reconciled with the father. And THAT is the real tragedy. How can he show gratitude when the father never made any attempt to show the son the value of his actions which would have warranted said gratitude... IF ONLY THE FATHER MADE ANY MENTION OF IT. I respect your defense of a father who meant well, but I'm sorry to say that the father made a VERY BIG mistake in how he raised his son. The proof is the regret on the kid's face. The world is what it is... unless WE CHANGE IT. I can be a real cynic sometimes... but I'd be a miserable person if it weren't for the fact that I understand how positive feelings trump negative ones any day, and this particular father left his own kid with regret, grief and guilt. And that's a shitty way of saying goodbye.

This reminds me of my father. When I grow up he is my hero. But once I grew up I didn't have time for my father. I didn't have time to talk to him. Rarely gone home. Suddenly he died. My entire soul trembled. I suddenly stated to remember how he fed me, how he taught me. And I was ashamed for all the ignorance and carelessness of mine. I wish to have a second chance in exchange for anything belongs to me. Rest in peace my father. I'm sorry. I love you.. Tx for the lovely post..

In this world we should be glad that we have parents mom or dad or both because they are the ones who raised us from birth to teach us how to be a good person in life and honestly idc if my parents give me a gift or not cuz they're the ones that are still here with me and that's what matters to me cuz my mom and dad is all I have and for those that once had mom and dad that passed away or left u, I pray to u that when u have children in life one day or if u already have children, always keep moving forward to keep teaching them of how to be a good person Edit: spend as much time with ur parent(s) cuz they're the ones that will be here with u no til they're gone one day

Help other people but neglect your own son, isnt that another form of selfish ? Not that saying helping people is wrong but help until your own son hate u,abandon u and look down at u is just pathetic . Yes at the end his son know what his father did but dont u think is too late?You dead and left ur son in regret , what is the point?

U alos miss the point that his father tried to give his son money. He never neglected him. His son grew up to be successfull in this movie. So his farther done his dutie. You are exaggerate with your comment and you missed the point. As explained his dad was a selfless man, and would had the son returen home for example, i am sure his dad would have told him. But being selfless he lived his live not to make him self look better, he did it all without wanting anything in return. And again, he clearly looked after his son, also offering him the money for university, which his son didnt take. You must also consider that the view of his son, shows something about his caracter! not asking his dad about what he does etc.

Alexander Grosse No no no my friend u miss out my point.Remember the part when the boy saw his father writing the card "u will be great man" ?Instead of give the card to his son and write a new one,he take back the card and say "is not for you",that could be the most hurting act a father can do to his son and believe it or not a small thing like this can be the last nail in the coffin . We cant treat every children like adult , most of them dont even know what is good and bad ,they will only care what will benefit them the most .Yes, the father did give the son money but in education part,he fail.You see just giving all fancy word about "more you give out ,you will more happier " are not helping at all, is like you throw all ingredient to a boy without teaching him how to cook,you need action to back up your teaching,strengthen it and sharping a positive thinking for your children .You mention his father try to give him money when he going Uni, but he did not accept ,why?Cause he dont want anymore relate with his father ,why? Because he think that his father are poor and unsuccessful,why?Because the father give out the massage "helping other make u poor and unsuccessful" . Lastly about the son character ,in Chinese we got this phrase "养不教,父之过" ,if u translate it basically meant "To feed without teaching, is the father's fault".You might say the father did try to make him a better man,but sometime a wrong example of teaching are worst then did not teach at all.
