Enable Local Dimming on the M28U. It is brighter. After testing with the Gamma fix it is needed for a brighter picture. I said I prefer it off in the video but after more testing It is needed to be On for a brighter picture
Hi Friends Welcome to Viktors Reality:
Today I have a Video showcase Opinion review so far on the Gigabyte M28U 4K 144hz HDMI 2.1 SS IPS Monitor. Also I show my OSD Sidekick settings for an Amazing picture. Out of Box its really bad but with a little tweak here and there you can make this into a winner! This is the cheapest HDMI 2.1 Monitor on the market today and has an amazing value if you want 4K144hz on PC and 4k120hz gaming on XBOX Series X or Playstation 5. This is using the same Innolux panel used on the New Samsung Odyssey G7 28" 4K HDMI 2.1 monitor, so it good to know that it's a top quality panel.
*Colors Vibrance is at 11 but if you set at 12 it will make it have more saturation. Always adjust to your liking.
*Change Gamma setting to 2.2 or 2.4. This will help fix colors washed out by the out of box error the monitor comes in.

*Black Equalizer is just like the Samsung Odyssey G7 27"/32" Monitor. It's very powerful. I have it on 8. Also higher the Color Vibrance to 11 or 12 for more color!
*Ambient lighting is key and very helpful to get way more contrast on any IPS panel. The Contrast enhancement is amazing.

I could have set it to 9 or 10 to have less contrast/black crush but I always do many videos so I will adjust in different scenarios. *Ambient lighting really helps the contrast here...

@@ViktorsReality yeah literally wife was telling me to buy myself something nice before we went on vacation. I had a replacement plan on my ultragear monitor so I upgraded for under 300 which was nice. But I did it the day we left for vac and the next day it was sold out I was soooo pumped to have a chance to get one. Do you think I’ll notice the difference coming from a 1440p monitor?

I think you will. If you had an LG Nano IPS panel it would be tough but any other lesser IPS panel from LG you will tell by the colors/saturation. Clarity will be improved. But mostly on 4k content or gaming is improved. Let me know how you like it if you dont mind.

Yeah it came in today while I was working I’m working late tonight I’m a nurse. I’ll be picking up first thing tomorrow morning when they open. Yeah I hope it’s a least better for console cause even my lg ultragear was 4K 60 and 1440 120 and it looked awful and it was the one with the nano cell 165 hertz. To me hdr isn’t shit as long as it runs 4k 120 for my games I’ll be set I’m getting this to future proof myself with my series x and ps5. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow after I set up and play! I got the 4 year plan on it anyway so even if something new comes out I’ll be able to get my money back

I'm considering buying the M28U but I've seen many reviews complaining about black screen (maybe even shuts down) that appears for 4-5 seconds after exiting any full screen app (some people reported that this could be resolved by disabling G-Sync and FreeSync), have you experienced this issue? And also what do you think about the text sharpness and crispness as I intend to use this monitor for work as well and text sharpness is key for me. Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

That may be a result of HDR switching to SDR, not the monitor itself, as this is common with all TVs and monitors when switching from say an HDR ready game to your desktop

Can adjust settings with either. Sidekick is needed to update the firmware, if you can get it to work.

You can control everything on the monitor itself. The osd is for menu desktop control or firmware updates.

Sorry for late reply. Did you get this working? Unpack or open it thru the osd. I put it in a folder I can easily select thru the osd.

I figured it out. You have to turn off hdr on Xbox setting then go into the picture setting on the monitor.

It's basically the same as the m28U. But the 32 is 100 more i believe so it's a good buy to go bigger if you have the desk space.

I only add 1 or 2. It kind of sharpens the whole picture. I have a video on marvel vs capcom on the aorus fv43u that also has that same option. I believe I talk a bit there on it.

Basically the main thing is 100 brightness. Make sure Local dimming is on. It does make a difference in hdr. I'll be doing a hdr video soon. Did you just get this monitor?

GP950 has better color and just works overall. The M28U is very affordable tho its just depends which firmware it ships with or if it updates to. Some have 500nits sdr while other have 300nits sdr.

Contrast should be 60. I messed up here. After more testing. At 60 there is no clipping. I just cannot change the video.

In hdr some monitors grey out all other options. Kind of like a set preset. Try sdr for a sec to see if it opens. Also vrr may grey out things.

The 28" is better than the 27" LG Nano IPS but yea 32" would be awesome for 4K. Aorus has one but for 1k. This is pretty good for 599.

Get the LG 27GP950-B had the Gigabyte M28U and I did not like the input lag when I played console games at 4K 60hz. M28u doesn’t have this problem at 4K 120hz only at 60hz.

Make sure performance mode and 120hz option are both on in the ps5 menu. If the game actually supports 120hz the m28u should display it.

Really? I have not experienced that at all. Other than the slower backlight vs other monitors I have shown video proof of it I enjoy this monitor alot. I use it for my Retro games as the color, speed and black equalizer is very good. I'll get some more videos ups soon but is there anything I can show to help you decide?

Yes, my m28u monitor goes black every 15-20 mins and then restarts which is extremely annoying I would not recommend this monitor to anyone as there seems to be no fix for it.
