Train Empties The Yard! Union Pacific Railroad Locomotives Drag Endless Train With DPU. Smokey CSX Locomotives Drag Huge Train. 4 Trains On CSX Main Line and railroad depot update. 2 trains are in Hamilton, Ohio with 1 train in Woodlawn and another train in Sharonville at the railroad crossing on Sharon Road. I timed it out so that I got to wait for that train. The first train with the UP locomotives is actually a Norfolk Southern manifest that came off the Indiana New Castle Sub and passed a short distance on CSX before getting back onto Norfolk Southern when you see it curve around to the left just past me. That train was huge and I first heard it on 160.980 before it got onto CSX. The next train was in Woodlawn, Ohio but was going too slow through a work area. The third train was a slow auto rack train with a smokey CSX locomotive. The last train was the one that I got lucky to wait for on Sharon Road on the Norfolk Southern mainline. I wanted to film trains in Woodlawn but when I got there I heard on the radio 160.230 that track work was going on just north of there and there was a slow order in place. I went back to Hamilton instead.
Filmed in 4K on July 28, 2022

Interesting to see the radioactive label on that gondola. LSA stabs for "low surface activity " so it could be hauling scrap parts that have been part of equipment that has held a source at some time and been contaminated by it. Great footage of long trains there, I love watching the freight cars going slowly past.

You know, if UP can run freight in/out of Ohio, I think they can bring 4014 for a visit.
@billmorris2613
@billmorris2613 2 жыл бұрын
@ Bill xam; The first train is not a UP train. It is an interchange train from the UP for CSX or NS and the UP engines stayed on the train. UP does not operate in Ohio. If you want to see the Big Boy I would suggest joining the UP Steam Club so you will get notifications of the schedule and what is going on with the steam engines. Then if it gets close too where you live take a road trip to catch it. Their web site will have the schedule on it.

4014 runs only on UP track. In 2019, I went to see the Big Boy when it came through town. The crowd was worse than Woodstock. 10,000 people in a town of 6,000. Count me out.

Look forward to when they move the station at Hamilton Ohio, hope they rebuild the chimneys, in my country NZ, that would go to the too hard basket. Chimney building use to be a trade in itself back in the day. I knew someone ten years my senior who was trained to that profession. Thanks again J.T.😁👍👌💚

Thank you for going to Hamilton and Woodlawn, Ohio on 28 July 2022, Jaw Tooth! That Norfolk Southern train powered by the three Union Pacific units was a long train! I thought that the last train was going to stop since it was going so slow. I was nice to see that train picked up speed and cleared the crossing.

CSX 13 aka Smokey, has some problems. Black smoke is a result of too much fuel, or not enough air. Check air cleaner, check boost, and if up to snuff, reset the fuel injector pump. If all that fails, some of the cylinders may have low compression not burning all the fuel. Weird to see CSX engines on NS.

One night during the early 1970's circumstances conspired such that the B&O Bayview, Baltimore yard wound up with over 400 cars to send to the Dundalk Marine Terminal, the GM assembly plant and the Sparrow's Point Bethlehem Steel mill. Bayview Yard is a small yard that handled a lot of traffic. It is situated on a slight grade to the east, with the top of the hill on a bridge crossing the Penn Central. From there it was downhill to the first destination yard. The yard power was a mix of EMD SW's, GP7's, and Fairbanks-Morse H 12's. I forget exactly what power we used to get the train over hill, likely two jobs on the head end, one for the yard serving the marine terminal (Highlandtown man) , the other for the yard serving the GM plant and the steel mill (Gray's man). The pusher was the east end switch crew, (down home man) Once the train got half-way over the bridge the down home man cut off, parked their engine and got their usual early quit.

Loved that third train with smokey locomotive 13. I just thought the lash-up with two two-digit numbered locomotives was rare (13 and 39). I swear I saw 13 on a WWOT video. I thought that last locomotive was coming to a stop, but then it picked up speed. Good job.

Looks like they haven't done anything with the old mill office building either. You weren't kidding about clearing out the yard on that first train. Been getting more and more ALCO imitators lately. Turbo seals have to be replaced on a regular basis or they just wind up burning lube oil. Another keeper, thanks.

CSX 13 sure is throwing lots of dirty exhaust - overddue for enginge maintenance?. And, wow....perfect timing on your arrival at the lowered crossing gates. Say, any way you can (easily?) find out the original purpose/use of that gray building with white trim in your first segment (city land use records)? It has some fancy trim features and different ones on different storeys. My first guests would be a hotel. Yet, there look to be a lot of doorways to old shipping docks. Thanks for another very interesting railroad video.

My town has been griping at Norfolk Southern for their mega trains coming out of New Orleans - there's a small siding in our town but they use all of our crossings to stage the mega while the smaller goes on the siding. Causes backups for nearly an hour. Its ridiculous because our emergency responders don't have access to the interstate to get to hospitals.

Hi Jawtooth. You have mentioned a couple times that people say your speed readings seem slower than the visual. Just a friendly fyi. Radar measures speed at 100% of actual when the beam hits the oncoming object exactly head on. Obviously you can not do that. The speed reading will report slower based on the cosine of the angle the beam hits the oncoming object. If for example,you were at 45 degrees to the train the speed shown on the radar set is .707 of the actual speed. You can see this happen if you turn the gun in your hand while taking readings. The measured speed will change as the angle changes.
