It is the most treasured and joyous sound for nearly every parent: their child's laughter. But for a rare number of children, laughter can signal a potentially devastating, even fatal future, and their parents will do anything to make the laughter stop.
"The giggling when he was young was such an endearing type of a giggle that we thought it was his normal giggling," Robin Dysart of San Antonio, Texas, said about son Keagan, who is now 9. "Until we realized he was giggling at inappropriate times. There wouldn't be anything to laugh about."

One time, this girl in my class had a seizure. I was in the corner laughing my head off. It's not because I have this, it's just nervous laughter. I laugh at the worst times.

Same. It's like I'm that 1 person who is about to crack up while a teacher is yelling at you. And when my best friend was crying because her mom was in the hospital because of her extremely high blood pressure, I died of laughter. But she knows It's my way of feeling sympathy so It's all Good.😂😂😂😂

#PikachuOverrated Yes, Pikachu is WAY overrated. Most pokemon, provided Pikachu is not holding a light ball, would OBLITERATE the poor electric mouse. How about a Garchomp that Ash evolves from his Gible back in G4. A nice change of pace from a pure electric. Besides, Ash needs to get powerful. He is an idiot for what he did to Goodra, and he could have another chance with a Garchomp. Besides, then he could DESTROY ANY POKEMON THAT THEY COULD THROW AT HIM in the Kalos League, and with Charizard beat the Elites and Diantha... Yes, not with Pikachu, with Garchomp and Charizard...

I have epilepsy and have since I was a year and a half old. I’ve never had giggle seizures, but I used to have about sixteen seizures a day. The doctors said that I had to have brain surgery and it was exactly like what it shows earlier in the video where they cut into my head and went and took out part of my brain. They said that after the surgery, I most likely wouldn’t be able to walk or talk and said I certainly couldn’t go to public school. Afterward, I was having way fewer seizures and actually rode a bike in the hospital the day after my surgery. I haven’t had any seizures for eight years now. I went to public school, graduated high school, worked as an animator and illustrator for a little over two years, worked as a teacher’s assistant for a preschool, and I’ve written over eighty songs. I’m just saying that brain surgery can make things so much better and I’m really grateful for the miracle to be able to do far more than the doctors expected.

Yes this is very true.. My kid also has the same issue and in his bad times he has @ 70-100 seizures in a day. It includes all types viz Absence, Tonic Clonic, Gelastic (both laughing loudly and crying loudly). Unfortunately there is no diagnosis for his condition here in India.This is had led my kid to be bedridden since last 3 years. Karen, you are lucky to have such an advance treatment and its good to see your kid got rid of such a rare disorder. God bless you all. Our ordeal still continues :-(

I'm deeply sorry that your kid has that. I truly hope he'll find his sunshine one day. All I can hope for is that his seizure amount reduces to a max of 10-60, and it continues to reduce somehow. I hope you can find the technology somehow, before it's a little too late..

So many kinds of epilepsy have no cure. I have a child and a wife with different kinds of seizures and neurological disorders. All the best health care has still not found a reason that is something they can control or fix or do anything about. I wonder about the gelastic seizures, if this is one my family has, because this is new to me that laughing fits could be a seizure... I'm sorry to hear of your son's difficulty. Are there any medicines you can get access to for anti-seizure medicines? Likely the cure of a surgery or one-time fix is not available to most people with Epilepsy, but perhaps some anti-seizure medicines can help him? I don't know what is available in your country?

I still don't get how they get the probe through the brain without boring a hole all the way through and injuring it. On the MRI scan, it looks like that's exactly what they did. So how does it not cause injury? I guess they're sticking it in through the spaces between the folds? I thought the folds and crevices don't come apart or run deep enough to be able to do that, though.

Melissa0774 I was actually wondering the same thing. I wish they explained more about the science of the procedure because I'm curious.
@pianobooks42
@pianobooks42 9 жыл бұрын
Melissa0774 I'm assuming that the areas of the brain they have to go through are calculated very carefully. If you notice, they have a specific path they want to go through. If they were to go in from a different angle, they'd likely hit a more important area of the brain. I don't know though. I'm not an expert.
@Melissa0774
@Melissa0774 9 жыл бұрын
pianobooks42 Yeah, I know they're calculated carefully, but I still don't get how it's possible to do at all. I guess the crevices and folds must run a lot deeper than I think they do? And maybe the sections just get pushed apart in the process and that's why it looks like there's a hole on the MRI, even though there isn't one?
