Durian ice cream is one of the easiest ways to try it since it is covered by milk and the smell is weaker, I also do not eat warm durian too. Durian with sticky rice and coconut milk is gold. I gain like 3kg this past few months from durian alone.

Durian is a very rich taste. The appreciation of it also seems to be genetic or inherited - most of the enjoyers of Durian had enjoyed it since young. Like, the smell of it to me is aromatic and not pungent.

Nah my mother wants nothing to do with durian while the rest of my family likes it. She’s had plenty of opportunity to have good durian, she just don’t like the smell

@@Ken_neThT not in my book. i have my own durian orchard with around 30trees. Theres naturally sour durian, hard durian, and ofcourse sweet ones. Plus, sour ones can be fermented to be used in cooking. My original comment is a very general view on durian, so that ppl can choose the sweet side of durian instead of the hard or sour ones.

Gigi is based! Durian frozen treats are actually pretty good, but fresh durian can definitely turn people off. Don't consume too much if you want to be able to open your eyes the next morning though 😂

One more thing of eating fresh durians though, do not consume with alcohol. They can dull the sense of each other much like coffee can with alcohol. People have expired for practicing this...

Durian is okay to enjoy when it's cold or room temperature, when it's cold, it helps by reducing it's potent smell and slightly smoothed the fermentation kick so it feels more like a really strong sake. But for gods sake, please don't cook it in the oven let alone use it for pizza.

in malaysia we do the hot ones with porridge or "pengat" it is still on the savoury/sweet hot treat. Well theres alot of recipes but yeah not on pizza.

One of the biggest thing I've found out when people try out durian is that they always eat small bite. Doing that will guarantee that the sweetness with be minimal while the foul smell and the weird texture remain. So in conclusion: do big bites when trying out durian

yep, i totally agree for 1st timer, just atleast get a friend that actually knows how durian taste on its fresh state. Since durian have a very broad taste range, its better to get the 1st timer the sweeter side of durian. But yeah, some people naturally still cant even eat it even it is the sweet ones.

Mostly frozen then thawed out, so the texture's worse with the water seeping out. And since the locals grab up all the quality stuff, chances are that the underripe and poorer quality ones are frozen to be exported.

Durian is best when it's fresh (aka not frozen) because they rot really easily. Best when you can eat from countries they grow in.

Durians have THE most heavenly smell. It's just the genes that make some people (in my country) and most people (the rest of the world) hates the smell of durian. Whites have like a 95% prevalence of hating durian smell while my race, the Melayu, have about 70% of them loving the smell of durian. Cilantro have specific genes that makes people either love them or hate them and who to say that durians doesn't have that too... BTW, durian is known as the King of Fruits because it virtually have ALL the known taste related natural chemicals that can be found in existing fruits.

No way. Durian is the only time I experience "life flashing before my eyes" when eating something and the episode that flashed is my experience entering unflushed public toilet with the giant yellow thing greeting from the squatting toilet. Heaven my foot, I'd rather burn in hell than smell that kind of garbage.
