Fun fact! This has roughly the same amount of frames as my Ruthlessness animatic. Most of them are of just Circe

I love the way the song parallels "say no to this" from Hamilton because Hamilton is like "you can't expect a man to deny a pretty woman throwing herself at him, especially not when the wife is away for a bit" but Odysseus hasn't seen his wife in YEARS and resists Circe. I can't fully articulate it, but it's great

I love how Circe is sneaking a knife at the beginning; it's such a better interpretation than i had in my head. When I first heard this song, I thought Circe was just "I can't fight you? Ok, I'll just fuck you to learn if you're trustworthy. That totally makes sense." This take, that Circe was using seduction as a test and trap, is so much better. When Odysseus turns her down because he's married, Circe sees that Odysseus is a decent man and not a threat to her nymphs, so she drops the knife and agrees to help him.

You gotta love the contrast of Odysseus very human and un-god-like FIDELITY to his wife that makes Circe and later Hera help him. For all the ways Odysseus tries and fails to put himself among gods trough war and trickery, his best qualities are the very human love and loyalty.

BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE I LOVEE how this one shows exactly how much power Circe actually has, most show a more subtle mind-game, but this one shows her power physically, with her dominating the entire interaction, being taller, shoving Odysseus around, and causing him mental distress all wrapped in a seductive package before going in for the kill. She was literally trying to court him with death, using herself as bait and I love that. I also love how it shows that the only thing that stays her hand and her blade is his loyalty and love for Penelope. She almost seems annoyed that she can’t kill him now, because she’s been in the same situation before, and expected Odysseus to choose the other woman just like Glaucus, but he remains loyal instead. Killing him would be like killing the part of herself that still loves and longs for what Odysseus and Penelope have, so she couldn’t even if she is cynical to a happy ending. AND amazing usage of film techniques and camera angles, like the ARC SHOT (my fave) the DOLLY SHOTS the TILTING, the TRACKING, the PANNING THE LOW ANGLE POV SHOT OF CIRCE THEN PENELOPE?!!? 10/10 amazing as always, Gigi!

2:23 i really like how you make Tiresias look a little bit androginous instead of making him look like an old man like many other animatice i've seen. It reminds me of how in the myths Tiresias was tranformed into a woman and lived like that for a while before being turned back into a man. Your animatics are amazing, as always, i especialy love how playful and energetic your Circe is.

Shoving him onto the bed with a toothy smile? help I’m very gay - the gleam in her eyes as she crawls on top of him wtf - THE LION HEAD ON THE POMMEL OF THE DAGGER okay the resemblance of her movements to a hunting feline were not accidental, I see you sprinkling in all the cat imagery - Oh I love how very mortal/human/earthy Penelope looks in contrast to Circe’s leonine fey witchiness - her pose for “this prophet is dead” XD and the underworld transition! That Tiresius design!! - Ahahah the look from the nymphs and his sweat drop wave - ELPENOR XD

I like the detail of the nymphs immediately being frightened upon seeing Odysseus- really shows smth happened and Circe is just protecting them from it happening again. Hi, currently reading the Odyssey. Circe basically forced Odysseus to lay with her or else she wouldn’t turn his men back. It explicitly states in the book that “in his heart, he did not consent”.
@mariannachierici2944
@mariannachierici2944 5 күн бұрын
@@blastymcsplode8265 the way Circe invites him "let's go together on *our* bed" followed by "YOUR bed" by Odysseus is so powerful in depicting that unparticipation by the Greek hero - and so is the lack of any poetic dwelling into the act - in the end, it's just "And I leapted into her beautiful bed" It's not Circe that's doing the forcing though, it's more Hermes that tells him he will have to do that to free his men. It's a "This is the will of the Gods" situation again. She is manipulating him in order to hurt him, yes, but when they reach an agreement on the situation - Odysseus makes her swear she will not hurt him if he goes into bed with her - it's more of a power struggle than actual erotic tension: Circe cannot take back her offer because it would prove that it was only a failed expedient and it would show weakness in a situation where she is already defeated, while Odysseus cannot risk to anger a goddess again (and also, because Hermes told him he will have to and going against the will of gods is not a suitable option) That bit "in my heart I never did consent" sounds a bit weird to me (I'm Italian and I've studied Greek in high school): my Odyssey's textbook says "but she never persuaded my heart in the chest", and in both instances it comes up in reference to the proposals of Circe and Calypso who asked him to marry them. That's not consent in the modern sense of the way - it would never be, ofc - but I guess it still holds the "you won't have my heart, I'm not in this, I still long for Penelope" vibe? Also, let's remind that in both cases it's *HIM* telling the story to the Phaeacians, so Odysseus might be a bit of unreliable narrator on what he really holds in his heart, but we have no way to prove that. He stays with Circe for a year until his crew says "ohi, you gotta go" though, so she could be wicked as he wants to depict her, still leapt in that beautiful bed A LOT. It just doesn't serve him well to kiss and tell.

Well, back then, if you didn't enjoy the Boombaya and we're forcefully forced to make love with another person, then it wasn't considered cheating. Odysseus was forced into making love with these 2 goddesses by force. Therefore, it wasn't cheating in those terms
@JabamiLain
@JabamiLain 3 сағат бұрын
@@SIMPLY_GJand it's NOT cheating. That would imply agency, which he didn't have in the OG myth. It's kinda weird Hera doesn't take into account some of Zeus's wives didn't have agency either, since he didn't always reveal himself during his sessions. That makes some of her punishments very unfair. It's also a shame she staged only one coup against her husband, but never tried it again later.
