People put her blame in the war as high as Athena and Hera's. But, didn't Aphrodite technically win fairly ? The three each offered the guy something. But being the goddess of love, it's her job to know what goes in a person's heart, so of course she offered the best option to a simple, stable man like him, which was love. And by the myth, Eros's arrows only seem to amplify what you already feel. But most importantly, while maybe not for the most selfless reasons, she did defend Troy. Doesn't she deserve to have some slack cut ? Of all myths I saw, she seems to be tamer compared to other gods. Not Hades tamed, but still tamed.

OP, you make a good point. She also has a tendency to overlook/ignore circumstances, from the versions that I've read, so her not caring that Odysseus didn't know that she died or was suffering is still in character.

Yep, quick thoughts, giving here more time to try to persuade aphrodite (and maybe manipulate her) before she gives a negative response and sentence odysseus to eternity with calypso (and a broken heart), though ares breaks it.

Being the goddess of wisdom and strategy and apparently able to manipulate time (courtesy of her grandfather, most like), I suspect she's *very* good at getting people to see her point of view. And for those she can't, she's *also* the goddess of warfare...

Please Athena just use that word to manipulate Aphrodite and Ares. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, so firendship is important for her, Ares is the god of war, what means that Friendship also matter for him. but Athena dont have the ability for fellings she is all about cold logic. she has no friends, that is why she is alone.

She came to protect Telemachus, I'd say that's a pretty friendly thing. And gotta add, Athena is a goddess of war too, Ares is known for reckless bloody war, she is known for won war, for planned and strategized war. To her it makes more sense for friendship to be important then Ares gotta be honest right there because as a goddess of wisdom she should know best that friendships helps in fights especially since a lot of spartan warriors werent just friends but even gay lovers who protected each other which made this so unbeatable. It makes more sense that she is taking friendship now more into consideration as a thing that can help her train a new "general" like she did with Odysseus but this time do it as a friend and not just a mentor because it grants her a greater understanding of the person she's training.

Exactly. He is literally the father of fear and terror (Phobos and Deimos, their mom being unsurprisingly Aphrodite), so him being this faceless, eerie figure, almost resembling an executioner more than a soldier, is a nice touch.

Funny things is that he's described as being one of the most beautiful gods along with Apollo and Dionysus. Aphrodite and Hera are the most beautiful of the goddesses.

There is this miss conception because every love godess in every culture also had a war aspect in them so I loved how they took her as the hardest since in every war is also love involed.

If we go solely on domain or just general worship Aphrodite is by the most powerful goddess only second to Hera with the influence she has on mortal lives. People need Aphrodite and all the lower god that overlap with her domain to live their lives with a modicum of joy.

I would say less rage, but more scruffy. Either way, it makes sense considering that Athena represented the strategic side of way (hence, representing wisdom) while Ares represented the fighting and brutality aspects of war (hence being associated with courage).

She also probably has to be just as direct and confronting as Ares just to win him over.

They are half-siblings, but then again, so are Aphrodite and Ares, I believe. If nothing else, Aphrodite is Ares' sister-in-law, since her husband is actually Hephaestus, Ares' brother and the god of fire.

​​​@@BPJD2004 Aphrodite is more like his grandaunt, if i record correctly, i think she was born when Uranus' severed penis fell into the sea, and Uranus is Chrono's father, so she's Ares' great-grandfather's daughter. Also worthy of note that she didn't exactly have a choice in marrying Hephaestus, and i'm pretty sure she did divorce him after her affair with Ares was exposed.

Well, Athena, being logic itself, is supposed to be uncapable of feeling love. So for her to use friendship as an argument, it means she's learning to feel love, which surprises Aphrodite, because she's Athena's opposite just as much as Ares, if not more.

@@Dennie-neale the point of her getting angry at Ares here for insulting Telemachus is that she has changed, in the past she wouldn't even call Telemachus her friend, much less go to such lenghts to help the man that insulted her to her face not to long ago (from a God's perspective), a lot has changed for her to be even atempting this in Odysseus behalf she is manipulating Athena, or trying, but Ares ends her attempt early and gets her actually angry with his insults, so the manipulation failed it shows that her old tricks just won't cut it anymore and she has to make an actual effort to save Odysseus

@@NoRegs30 She didn't get angry and hasn't changed any, actually she favors pride over anything and was manipulating Aphrodite in the beginning. That's when Ares stepped in, to stop it. She might have got mad but it was only because she was trying to save her own pride, it shows how manipulative and horrible the gods are. That they would stoop to such low lies that mean nothing to them, only to cover their own backs and make themselves feel good. She is only helping because she tried so hard and they are basically shoving in her face that she failed.

Ares stepped in and Aphrodite even walked over to him knowing that she proved a point, Athena would never beg. What about that infant, tho? War has its manner too. He killed sleeping soldiers, no honor at all. Ofc he got sh1t on a lot. You gotta do what you gotta do to survive, I agree. But Ody is never and no hero, when the story tried to paint him as a hero or 'good', this clashes with his dishonorable and cunning way in killing sleeping Trojans regardless of his reasons. Especially here, Athena was asking them for votes to release him. Ares was basically blurting out all of Ody's dishonorable conduct and essentially asked "What about him that is worthy of special treatment?" Not to mention as Aphrodite mentioned in her part "More like busy spiting the cyclops." Mocking that "Odysseus? Fighting? When did he fight? He killed Trojans in their sleep, no fight. He blinded the cyclops with his more-than-enough power, still lost soldiers, and then rather than finishing the job, he just left his name out spite." Again, what's so special about him? Both Ares and Aphrodite were asking that.

@@arthurmorgan2887 It's because unlike other Greek heroes, he actually use his brain. That's why Athena said he's a warrior of a very special kind, a Warrior of the Mind. He doesn't fight with brute force, but with intellect and cunning. Killing Trojans in their sleep was a strategic choice as it's a war. Being in a war isn't honorable, so you have to be cunning to win it. It's also how he outsmart the cyclops, putting lotus in the wine to knock him unconscious and sharpening the club to spear to stab his eye. There is no honor in a real war, only victory, not even Ares follows that damn honor because he represents the ruthlessness of war. There's no honor in being ruthless. Saying that Odysseus shouldn't get special treatment is bold, considering he is special among heroes who don't just use simply use brute force. It's something that Ares don't understand because he doesn't think, he just fights. All brawn and no brain. He doesn't understand that being cunning and intelligence is a special trait that Odysseus has. He was pressured into killing the infant by Zeus because if he doesn't kill the son of Hector, then he and his entire family would die and his kingdom would lay to ruins just because he spared him. It's why he was struggling in Just A Man and why he doesn't want war because he just wants to spend time with his family. He's only in the Trojan War because of the vow, and he never thought that vow would be used to be in that war. He then became a monster after witnessing so many deaths, disregarding Polites' pacifistic mindset, and becoming like a true soldier he once before. Also, Odysseus wouldn't have spite the cyclops had Athena didn't interfere. He was literally about to run away and leave him, but because Athena interfere into killing the threat and Odysseus embraced Polites' Open Arms mindset, he refused to kill and announce his identity to the cyclops to remember any people that passed by him to show mercy, hence his hubris which is his fatal flaw. But that wouldn't have happened if Athena just didn't damn interfere. Remember that killing the infant took an emotional toll on Odysseus and Polites telling him to greet the world with open arms made him want to not be violent anymore, which caused a lot of his crew members' lives ALSO, just because they're called Greek heroes doesn't mean some are actually have heroic mindsets. All of the heroes have fatal flaws and doing whatever it takes to complete the mission. They don't have the trait of heroes like Captain America or Superman, but they're called heroes because of their ideals, achievements, and recognition by the gods. All of the Greek heroes have troubled past and attitudes, so Odysseus isn't being painted as a hero but a flawed individual just like others. ALSO ALSO, Odysseus and his men would've reached Ithaca if the men weren't so unbelievably stupid in opening the bag. The kingdom was literally on sight, but were blown to the land of the giants instead and encountered Poseidon. Poseidon couldn't do anything to him with the winds that Aeolus trapped in the bag, as the sea means nothing without the wind. Odysseus was a smart man with a dumb crew. His mother wouldn't have died a broken heart if those idiotic crew members just didn't open the damn bag. It's something Aphrodite overlooked when it wasn't Odysseus' fault his mother died. Sure, Odysseus angered Poseidon, but like I said, Poseidon couldn't touch him without the winds. So, what's so special about him? The fact he's still alive after being hunted down by Poseidon, loss a lot of men because of hubris and crew members' idiocy, being away from home for 20 years, and using his intelligence to whatever it takes to get back home is a remarkable feat that the many Greek heroes (or even ordinary mortals like you and me) wouldn't able to handle or even gods if they became mortal. He still have the determination to keep him going after suffering psychologically and physically for two decades just to see his wife and kids again is what's make him special. He will do whatever it takes to get back home, even if dropping another infant. It's something Aphrodite failed to realized despite being the so-called Goddess of Love and also something Ares failed to realize his tenacity and killing intent because of his intelligence despite being so-called God of War.
