So here's a fun fact: The Party doesn't split in the Feywild! There were a BUNCH of things they had to cut for time, including but not limited to: - Vax failing a saving throw again a magical campfire and being forced to dance next to it until the whole party had to drag him out. - The Party needing to sleep and going "we can't sleep! The fairies will eat us alive!" and Percy nailing a sign to a tree that said "Hello, Fairies! We are napping!" and they slept and didn't get attacked! - Percy accidentally looking at a naked Nymph and getting literally blinded so he couldn't take in the Feywild he loved so much... - Keyleth teaching Vex a "Speak to Animals" so she could talk to Trinket, which was taken as a drug trip here. - "No Theatre!" - And of course, The Gator. But any other moment that was important in the Feywild was shown or alluded to! So it's faithful as much as it could be in order to make the whole trip in time!

The Metal hand Percy has is called "Diplomacy". He enjoys naming his things in hilarious ways, such as the rifle that took out the undead giant in season one is called Bad News "Because nothing travels faster"

Campaign fact: Grog was actually killed by Craven edge after feeding him too much and not sleeping as that gave him more strength, (Grog was basically doing minimum 30-40 damage per hit with a weak hit) and Percy did something terrifying to get grogs soul back (spoilers cant say) oh while I'm mentioning it, the party never split during either of these adventures these 3 episodes so this is a cool change.

Scanlan actually spent most of the campaign trying to romance Pike and it’s around this point in the original campaign that she started returning feelings. At the very least it was during the Chroma Conclave arc.

They both were happy with it -including the gruesome end- signed off on it… and forgot all about it, since animation takes a _looong_ time to produce. Sadly, Dagon passed away in the time between this reference being written into the script and the episode being fully animated and finished, and Matt and Marisha were quite broken up about him. When the two of them saw the finished episode for the first time, they had completely forgotten about this scene, and now they suddenly saw the representation of their recently deceased pet being gruesomely torn apart… They burst out laughing hysterically, because this confluence of events was simply _too_ bizarrely macabre and ironic. And indeed, when Grog made his way back through the portal, he saw Pike holding on with a white-knuckled grip to a rock formation with one hand, and with her other hand holding steady the sword that was _still embedded in her body,_ so that Grog could climb back safely. She looked at him and said, "Don't worry, buddy. I gotcha." 'Cause Pike is a _fuckin' Monstah!_

Oh now I know who voices the red dragon. Same guy who plays Sylens from horizon zero dawn. Lance Reddick took me a moment to realize that. He’s a great actor.

As far as why not having Grog is a bad thing, he's got the most health and takes the least damage from physical attacks. Like massively more health. So not having him is as big a deal as they're making it out to be. And yeah, if it's on one individual it's peni. Multiple people is when you get penises.

Gotta say, I know that Grog was going to have some major story beats this season, but didn't realize they would do such a good job of weaving his issues with Craven Edge and his backstory in with Earthbreaker Groon's question to him. I'd say he's had the best character arc this season.

Pike getting impaled was fairly different in the campaign, with one of the more important details being that Ashley Johnson was absent that episode and Pike was controlled by the DM. It was still a very important moment in the Craven Edge arc, and the recontexualization for this show was extremely well done.

Lion King 1.5 is severely underappreciated. (this comment made knowing you've seen the next episode, so not spoiling things) The gay agenda had a brief, shining moment waaay back in C1, very early in the show before the Briarwood arc. In a moment of drama, while escaping a terrible encounter, Vex kissed Percy on the cheek, and Percy boasted he would collect both twins. I shipped them SO much! Our two broody bois. Honestly, I wonder if it might have gone differently if the stream wasn't still new and everyone wasn't still finding their way with streaming and RPing and stuff. I feel like they're all more bold now. Alas, they went in another direction. But a tiny part of me was holding out hope they would switch it up for the animation after Kiki blushed at Vex last season, I wondered if they were maybe changing a few things. That said, Vex/Percy holds the distinction of being one of only a handful of m/f ships I've said "awww, that's just right" about. So, y'know, I'm not mad at it, and Percy and Vex are so good for eachother.

“Penises” is an example of a wrong or invented word being used when there was already one, but to the point it overtook the original proper word in popularity. There was a time many many many decades ago when education was not as common and higher learning even rarer. People without higher learning and robust vocabularies reasonably assumed that you added “es” to penis to pluralize it like so many other words. The original plural for penis was “penes”, pronounced “pee-knees”

As someone who just finished watching/listening to campaign 2, I really enjoy seeing Garmelie do stuff Jester is known to do, really cool foreshadowing for those who only watch the animated series, and once the mighty nein animated series comes out I wonder if Alicia and Ant will make that connection with the dick doodles. (side note: I never watched the vods for campaign 1 because I was under the impression that one of the players Orion was a problem player and that some of the episodes with him can be a real slog to get through to the point some people just straight up recommend skipping like the first twenty episodes or so.)

So this whole splitting the party thing didn't happen in the game. Umbrasyl showing up in the previous episode to steal Mythcarver and interrupt the spell sending half the party in different directions is actually unique to the animated series. This is a LONG arc in the game and they needed to condense it as much as possible as there are a lot of vestiges to hunt down. This was a way of knocking out the plot of two more vestige hunts quickly, keeping only the most relevant characters for those specific items where they need to be as the others would effectively just be in the background otherwise. Originally the Pike/Scanlan/Grog side happened first and the rest of them in the Fey Realm happened afterwards, but this was a fun change that keeps those of us who are familiar with how the campaign went down on our toes since we already know how things should play out. Funny enough Scanlan is one of the party's backup healers. Whenever Pike is absent during Ashley's all-too-frequent filming sprees for Blind Spot, Keyleth and Scanlan split the healing duties for the rest of the party. For the animated series version of things, they removed Scanlan's healing since Pike is around for things she wasn't there for originally and when she isn't such as last season, Keyleth was able to do it herself (plus that one time Vax and Scanlan replicated her methods). Pike is best suited for healing, but in a pinch Keyleth and Scanlan can pick up the slack when she isn't around. Welcome to the Fey Realm. Rule # 1: *TRUST NOTHING!* We're operating off classic Celtic-style interpretations of Fey here. Fairies will fuck you up if you cross them, for example. This world is weird as fuck and nothing is as it seems. Ant ripping on Scanlan is actually half the point of his character. Way back when they were planning out that original birthday game that would eventually become their regular home game that got turned into Critical Role once they started streaming, Liam and Sam (Vax and Scanlan) were discussing how D&D worked as Liam was trying to convince Sam to join him for that initial birthday game and explaining the assorted classes and races and just how things are in the game. Ever the jokester, Sam asked what was, in Liam's opinion, the worst combination of race and class one could pick and Liam suggested a Gnome Bard. Sam loves trolling and the consequences of failing (which comes up heavily in campaign 2 where at one point he gets the ability to reroll any 1s he gets and thus a critical fail, but chooses not to as he finds failing it funnier than trying to win all the time) and so Scanlan was born as the Gnomish Bard we all know and love. He's literally built from the ground up to be as useless and pathetic as possible, but Sam *made it work*. For many D&D players, Scanlan actually proved the opposite, he routinely showed off just how versatile and powerful Bards truly are when played right and is in many ways the example bard players across the globe look up to now. This episode touches on a fun thing that Taliesin occasionally brings up throughout the campaign: for all his edgy sad boi energy, Percy is just a nerd. Growing up he spent most of his time hanging out in the family library reading everything he could rather than going out to be adventurous or learning how to rule. He's the middle child, no one expected anything of him and he was more interested in books than in people. Percy's hand thing was briefly shown at the end of the last season when we saw the party back in their keep before being summoned to Uriel's proclamation. While it's different here, this actually confirms our suspicions in that episode that this is the animated series version of another one of his inventions. It's a shock glove he calls Diplomacy, another addition to his pun named items such as his sniper rifle Bad News and his new pistol Retort. Think Asami's shock glove she gets in the Legend of Korra and there you go. In the game it gets charged by absorbing magical energy and allows Percy to have a single magical melee attack in situations where his guns aren't working/viable, but here it appears to be charged via pull cord. He may have lost The List but Percy's arsenal of gadgets and new weapons continues to grow. Skinny Grog is another change to the way things played out, for the better I think. In the game the sword kept making Grog stronger and stronger...until he maxed out and then it ate his soul, instantly killing him right there in the middle of the camp with everyone else. A quick resurrection to restore his soul and the party wound up banishing the sword to a small pocket dimension they had visited previously to get rid of it. It makes sense that they're trying to avoid all the narratively less important deaths but still allude to that character losing something in those moments, so having Craven Edge steal Grog's strength is a great alternative to just repeating what happened to Vex a few episodes ago. Plus after a season and a half of seeing Grog be the towering mass of muscles, it's pretty funny to see him flailing around as a noodle here. Keyleth needing to learn her spells, fun references. Her player Marisha is constantly misremembering what her spells actually do and it became something of a running joke that she needs to sit down and learn what she can actually pull off. Part of it is because for Critical Role they shifted to a different system than what they spent years playing. Their home game was all played via Pathfinder but they switched to D&D for the livestream and a bunch of changes had to be made to adapt it to the new ruleset. Percy had the brunt of it as there was no Gunslinger class in D&D unlike in Pathfinder so his ruleset had to be homebrewed, but Keyleth kept trying to do things that worked in Pathfinder but not D&D such as heating up friendly weapons in battle. In Pathfinder it makes those weapons do heat damage to enemies during attacks, in D&D it makes the weapon burn the shit out of whoever is holding it. So it's partially Marisha not reading carefully and partially the change in rules. Garmilie is our second Hobbit to show up in this show. Archie last season was voiced by Dominic Monaghan, i.e. Merry from the Lord of the Rings. Garmilie here is played by Billy Boyd, who was Pippin in those movies. The wild drug trip. All I'm saying is several members of the group, predominantly Matt, Marisha, and Taliesin, do frequently attend Burning Man. Make of that what you will.

These next 3 episodes were a trip even for OG critters. They changed a lot and yet they hit all the key important points from the campaign. They really are doing phenomenal with this season.

it's a little sad we didn't get a mirror to what happened in the campaign with Grog, but I like this too. In the campaign, Travis gives an amazing performance talking about why Grog needs to keep Craven Edge (due to what you'll see in episode 8). I hope someone collects that scene for you to watch as well. they are doing a much better job with Scanlan/Pike in the show than the campaign, where Scanlan came off much more like a creeper.
