Im going to be brutally honest. Take some of the worst players today and drop them in the 80’s and their at least all stars. That’s the truth. That’s not a problem though, that’s the natural progression of any sport and it’s gonna continue like that for as long as sports exist or till humans max out their physical potential. Which I think sports would probably cease to exist first because science is full of surprises. The players of back then wouldn’t even be able to keep up with modern players practices and drills much less in an actual game.

One thing he doesn´t consider is that in the 80ies most players played 4 years of college, some went to tne draft after 3 years. So a lot of the players were hitting their prime within their first 2-3 NBA seasons already. If you look at the 85 and the 86 draft there are a lot of players that still hid their peak or had their best season in the 80ies and they already started to fall of during the mid 90ies, so according to him they count as 90ies players while numbers wise they were pretty much on the same level or even better during the 80ies.

@@CrawDawgsWorld He states at the beginning of the videos that he does consider players drafted in 85 or 86 as 90ies players anyhow, since he focuses on their peak. that makes sense in today´s NBA where most rookies are 19 and 20, but not in the 80ies where the majority of players came to the league as 22 or 23 year olds and often were already declining in their early 30ies due to less advanced medical treatment.

I think the current NBA is toughest, with frieght trains like LBJ, Giannis, and the rising of Victor who blocks every shot in the paint. Sure, the 80's had giys cheap shotting you, elbows, low blows, but, that aint basketball. They had to do that to make up for lack of talent back then.

I mean Gil has a argument because of rule changes you couldn’t run any kind of zone or help defense back then so it was easier to go 1v1, they literally called illegal defense. You would literally get penalized for leaving your man to provide help for a teammate

Lol what are you talking about, zone defense today is not evena zone defense its watered down since there is a defensive 3 secs, its harder to play one on one back in the day since there is handcheck foul and the flagrant foul is rarely called because you need to cripple a player before its called a technical, you can clothesline a player and thats a regular foul which lessen the players game to drive the basket. By he way illegal defense is not leaving your man to provide help, learn some basketball kid, it is called when guys double a player without having the ball to create equality to the post players because it is a rule change when guys like wilt, moses, thurmond exposed the paint too much.

Dude meant you can’t play a zone, or shade between players you had to hard commit on someone. That is a huge part of todays game, guys like Giannis Roam around today and wreak havoc defensively by almost being in all places at once. Most teams now have at least one guy on they’re roster that does that.

Easily! He's 1-step above Ryan Hollins tier. He's as bad as Perk. The only thing saving him is McCants being his co-host who is easily worse and makes Gil seem reasonable by comparison. This take was debatable but at least has some points (many don't hold water when you look into them contextually). 50-80% of the takes I have seen from him have been glorified trash. But hey, he's the same guy that ruined a great NBA story by finishing it with a gun/ gambling altercation. That's Gil and his logic. He tries.

To say the guys today are most skilled you have to define what skill is. Most people associate skill these days with jacking up 3s which is ridiculous. Then there's rules. The game nowadays has been designed to make it easier offensively.Rules are really lax. Guys like Doncic who had been playing to stricter rules overseas have commented on how easy it is to score in the nba. Meanwhile every touch is a foul these days while back then you had rules like handchecking which severely impacted the offensive play.
