I had to share this early because it's exceptional stuff. I worry sometimes that people are understanding French Catch solely as the trampoline matches and fast rope running and spot sequences 40 years before their time, but it's this sort of matwork and slugfests as well, even if I don't think anything we've seen up til 1973 quite reaches the level of this one.
Also, a sidenote that I've updated the master list over at Segunda Caida up to a few weeks ago: segundacaida.b...

All my life i 've remembered this match I saw on French TV when i was a teen. One of the best I 've ever seen in the 70's. I dreamed of seeing it again and having it published on You Tube. It is done ! A very big thank you to Matt

It's an amazing match, and we cover amazing matches from France every week so sometimes it blurs together a bit, but not this one. I absolutely believe that you would remember watching it when you were a teen in the 70s and I'm glad you were able to see it again. Thanks for reaching out.

Great match! Love the long-held head scissors beginning at 1:41 . . . and the shorter one at 9:45. Great ending, too! Two outstanding wrestlers giving us some outstanding wrestling!

Mais cette fois-là le grand gilbert est tombé sur un os ! J'avais vu ce matcg à la tv en 73 et en avais gardé un souvenir assez précis tant il m'avait marqué à l'époque. Sidéré par la défaite de Gilbert, mais impressionné par la prestation du catcheur belge qui n'avait pas du tout volé sa victoire.

Maybe THE best catch wrestling match on this channel. Maybe. Bert Royal vs Tony Oliver is great, too; but Oliver is maybe "too much" pour les puristes du catch. Anyway, great stuff 🍻🍻
