Early diagnosis, immediate engagement in care, and starting and staying on effective treatment provide the opportunity to achieve a healthier life for people living with HIV. Adversity and negative narratives about “readiness” to engage in care and treatment can limit this opportunity. Roberta Laguerre-Frederique, MD, discusses shaping a new narrative that helps people living with HIV overcome adversity to engage and thrive, and how important it is to decrease the time between diagnosis and treatment.
