I always get emotional talking about or seing images of Gilles. His story is so great and inspiring. I started watching F1 in 1997 (I had three years old at the time) because my father was following Jacques's career. I then learned about Gilles some years later when I was around 8 years old and since then he is my F1 hero. Salut Gilles!

And now that I am knowing his history, it feels as if to me he's a very very close person who's lost, even though I'm from another country. I was only 11 years old in 79 when he was leading at Zandvoort and displayed his amazing skills on 4, 3 and finally 2 wheels. From that moment, he was, still is and will be always my hero. There was not much TV coverage in my country back then and had to do with few magazines only. It was just only 19 years later, when I red his biography, that I fully understood WHY he is so special. I have many books, cars, went to Montreal, sat in his 77 formula Atlantic car, went to the museum in berthierville. The man can still touch me and also make emotional as he seemed to be so bitter and disappointed in the weeks before he died following the betrayal of Pironi. Or when seeing the famous and beautiful Belgian documentary or when his son fulfilled and spoke the words, it has been accomplished. That he is your hero while born in 97 touches me also. Thanks for your nice post.

Was at his 1st. Win, and at the unbelievable Wet Glen. And At his funeral , rode a bicycle from Ct. U.S.A. I tattooed his helmet on my arm the day he passed, then got on said bike. I believe Only Tazio sits higher as did Mr. Ferrari. I paint canvases of him. Have his Last ever given autograph- 12 min before - -

Jilles Villeneuve has been my first driver heroe. When he died at Zolder I was ten years old and i can't forget the shock i had. Very hard to accept. I can't watch the video of the accident. Salut Jilles.

Senna will always be my favourite, but watching how outta control Gille is, yet still keeping it on the track is testament to how hard he pushed that car.

Only won six races, never won the championship. But a massive chunk of F1's soul got ripped away that afternoon at Zolder.

He was a great driver. He was a crazy beast on the track. But he needed to think more, to make less mistakes. Thats the only thing i can say about him as a pilot
