The one thing that really gets me, is that the professor was so smart that he built a lie detector machine from scraps on the island. But he could not build some kind of watercraft to get them of the island. Being a fan of the show, you had to overlook that.

Gilligan’s Island was my favorite TV show when I was 5 years old, which was the target audience age for this series. Someone who is or was 5 wouldn’t notice or even pay attention to these errors or problems at that age.

collegeman1988. If was my favorite show when I was 5 too. Every time it came on, I always clapped when the lightining struck and hollered for mom and dad to do the same, which they did. They even bought me a navy cap to where like Gilligan had.
@Nikes625 жыл бұрын
collegeman1988 , it wasn't targeted for young children, it's target audience was teens to older adults. It was family oriented but definitely adult oriented, with Ginger's numerous attempts to seduce Gilligan to get something she wanted. There were no children on the show, even as guest stars.The youngest guest star was Kurt Russell. Both the skipper and the Howells were well known character actors who had numerous movie credits behind them and well were well known to older adults.

When my oldest son was little (he's 40 years old now) this was one of his favorite shows. He wanted a Gilligans Island for Christmas, he loved it & played with it in the bathtub. That show & other old ones like it are better than what's on tv now.

Thank you for an interesting look into the bloopers of this great iconic series. Loved it in Australia growing up in the 60s and 70s when TV shows were interesting and fun unlike today's garbage. Best regards Mark Sydney Australia
@davidcaldarola51888 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Mark. You are unfortunately correct - much of the current entertainment is rubbish, and it reflects the terrible shift in priorities and values we have had here in America. Things that were valued 50 - 60 years ago are reviled, and that which was obviously worthless back then is praised today. I am glad I am 57 and probably won't make it to 70. I grieve for the poor children who have 60-80 more years of this crap to put up with.

Regardless of all the goofs, errors and oddities, Gilligan's Island is the only show that has been showing their reruns over and over and over again on various cable/satellite channels. None of these flaws mean anything to those that love Gilligan's Island. It was an innocent, fun-loving comedy entertainment show and I never get sick of any episode they show and I'm sixty years old. However, it was fun watching all the three seasons of goofs that you, obviously and painstakingly, put together. And, yes, they happened but to most of us just watching and enjoying, we don't see these errors. Thanks for putting this together. I enjoyed it and I have no idea how I got here and found these three video's but when I saw them I had to watch them and I have you to thank for that.

2:34 The professors' book: This would be impossible to read on the screen of a typical 1960s home tv set, so it was sure to go unnoticed. The resolution of the 60s analog broadcasts and tv sets was such that much of this stuff would simply be invisible to viewers, because the equipment wouldn't resolve it clearly enough.
@davidcaldarola51888 жыл бұрын
But doesn't it strike you a bit strange that they would put that circular disc or medallion over the cover of the book if they were certain no one could read the cover anyway? Just like Gilligan's tobacco stained tongue. We are seeing the glorious advantages, and possibly the faults, of Hi-Def and big screen TVs. They show up a lot of detail we never saw before. Thanks for the input.
@jsat56098 жыл бұрын
There may have been some sort of network rule regarding the book cover, that certain things HAD to be covered, to keep from inadvertently showing them, or giving some product a free commercial, regardless of the camera angle or distance or whether viewers were likely to see it or not. This would prevent slip-ups, and prevent someone in the prop department from taking a bribe on the sly to "accidentally" slip some brand name product into the picture, or to slip some other item, such as a book cover, that might have a political or religious message, or some other emotionally charged content on it. If it's always covered up, the network executives know their backsides are covered as well, and the viewers ain't gonna see it. The resolution of 35mm motion picture film is vastly superior to NTSC video, so it isn't surprising that all this is showing up now when it didn't in the original broadcast. The show was a product of it's time, and it examining it this closely fifty years after the fact, is bound to make it look a bit different. Television in the mid '60s was much younger that it is now. The viewing public was not as jaded, and cynical as now, and was, in general. much more willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of the story.

Mr. Caldarola. I grew up watching Gilligan's island. As a kid, I actually caught the different huts between the shots. When my daughter was about 6 years old (she's now 31), she ran into my office and happily notified me: "Dad, there is a new show on TV and it's great." I ask her what it's called. She replies, "I don't know the name of it, but it's about this group of people that go on a tour and get shipwrecked on an island and can't get off. It's so funny." So, there have been two generations of our family that enjoy the show. My daughter's kids are 2 and 4. I'm hoping that they will find "the new show" and bring our total to 3 generations that love Gilligan and the rest of the castaways. Thanks for all of the hard work! Best from San Diego. Kevin

Lol David you have too much time on your hands, and I am glad!! Thanks for uploading this and for taking so much time to watch and investigate the show as you have done. Ahh heck man we were kids we wouldn't have caught on to most of those blunders lol. But here it is 2018 and I watch TV shows all the time that are using just stock images for between the scene segments. One show that's really bad for doing it is the Discovery show "Fast N Loud" they are always showing you parking lot scenes or aerial shots of the garage. Those of us who watch each episode recognize certain hot rods are in the parking lot that were sold off two or three seasons ago so obviously that shot is not a recent one lol. Then the owner of the garage had two gas monkey images painted on his two overhead garage doors. They take up the entire door so they are hard to miss lol. At the beginning of the episode you see the garage and the doors and all looks fine, about halfway through the episode Richard, the owner, goes out to meet a fan and you can clearly see both doors are shut and have nothing painted on them! lol - I imagine editing is a hard job but c'mon some things are easy to fix. I remember a lot of times watching Gilligans Island and catching different things, the shape of the island was one I remembered! Is it just me or was Ginger way hotter as a brunette? I mean we all know Mary Ann was the true hotty on the show but Ginger with that black wig on? Oh my... Thanks for putting this and your other ones up, keep up the good work!

From a technical standpoint, GI is probably the worst made series ever. But how does a show have such appeal and draw so many lifelong fans with so many goofs? It's because the fans love the people in the cast. It is arguable that you will never find a TV show where fans love every member of the cast, not just one person in particular.

In the Eva Grubb episode, there were SEVERAL Goof Ups. One being that when Gilligan wanted to find Ginger for a dance, this was the same time the Howells gave Eva a necklace. Now unless it was a ‘snap on’ necklace, all we see is Eva throwing her necklace over her shoulders, then SUDDENLY it is SECURED AROUND HER NECK.
@rvpstudiosstudios10286 жыл бұрын
And ALSO I MUST MENTION that on SEVERAL occasions they used a ‘stand-in’ for Ginger when the BOTH had to be in the same scene together. But UNFORTUNATELY you can tell WHEN the stand-in was there, because this person had a slimmer ‘backside’ as well as they USED the stand-in’s VOICE when ‘Ginger’ approached Eva to ask what she wanted to “talk to her about?”..it was QUITE OBVIOUS that they DIDN’T use Tina Louise’s voice, the actress sounded MUCH MORE DIFFERENT. Also when Eva talked in the hut BEFORE she got transformed into Ginger. They used the stand-in’s voice AGAIN. NOT Tina Louise’s voice. It was ALSO VERY NOTICEABLE.

So do I, M. This is all just for fun pointing out interesting facts. Actually, I have found an even more messed up TV show. I've been watching Dark Shadows for a few months now, and I am amazed at the technical goofs... Actors/actresses fumbling their lines, boom mic shadows all over the place including crossing the faces of the actors, cameras unfocused on a person when the action is between two other people, the camera panning through the set in a blur because they hadn't switched to the active camera yet, loud noises from the crew moving equipment around, etc. My favorite is when David Collins is attacked by a bat in his bedroom (Barnabas) but when he cowers on the floor near the door, one can clearly see the shadow of the pole the rubber bat is hung from bouncing up and down trying to make the bat look like it is flying. Oh, well. Thanks for watching.

@@jusayenso8186 -- I don't bother with the petty people. Look at anything on KZfaq, no matter how good the content is, there are people who will at least give it a "thumbs down." For example - John Denver, Like a Sad Song, 21 dislikes. Charlie Callas "roasting" Don Rickles, 156 dislikes. Barbra Streisand, I Dreamed of You, 141 dislikes. Red Skelton on the Johnny Carson show, 279 dislikes. It's unfortunate, but there are many people who seem to dislike everything. When the Skipper says oxygen from the boat he mean emergency equipment originally from the boat. Obviously it wasn't from any of their luggage. Also that episode with the Jet pack, if u put it in slow motion, when Gilligan blast off, it scares the shit out of the Professor. It’s so funny 🤣 they were working with the real shit back then lol

Really enjoying this series. I wish you would do the Andy Griffith Show. Barney always be messing up his hair in the close ups, but it always be neatly combed in the long shots.

I agree, with you, "T M..."! My chuckle, with the Griffith show, is that 1959 Chevrolet 2-door, that seemed to appear, coming and/or going(sometimes, doing both, depending on the scene's length)in the bg-in the b/w episodes- of, almost, every exterior, in front of Andy's office. This was great, Mr. Caldarola, as was your narration! I, just, subscribed.

Can't buy the Andy Griffith Show DVDs, I've been unempoyed for three years and I am waiting on a final judgement for a disability claim. But there is one goof on the show that stands out. Barny Fife's middle name. Barney calls himself once, Bernard P. Fife. In the episode of the revolutionary war hero, Andy says to Barney, "I thought your middle name was Oliver." But, in the episode where we see high school photos of Andy and Barney, he is listed as Bernard Milton Fife.

I recall seeing a stand-up comic about 30 years ago. He noted that more people could recall the entire episode where Gilligan's head became a radio, then could name their Congressman and Senators. I felt at the time that it was too true and not at all funny.

@@tomdietel1679 And people actually wonder why we're in the situation we're in. Ignorance is being normalized at an alarming pace, even rewarded financially, just watch a few minutes of so called reality TV.
