you americans are so accustomed to leaving your houses too early, you usually turn out to be cold and distant emotionally, and lead pretty unfulfilling lives...in most countries in the world people stay in touch with their families for MANY years after high school and often live with their parents well into their 20's

RossieMarrie it probably would have turned out pretty much the same, except for her meeting other people. Her entire life people babied her up, tell her how wonderful she is. She never learned how to take criticism. In the real world outside of the Stars Hollow bubble she most likely would meet someone else who has a different opinion of her.

@Cleverly relatable Username no she tried her best but bc rory was an introvert and honestly a studious, easy going girl pretty level headed sensible and intelligent too she didn't usually need to discipline her unless it was serious like the affair w/ dean or dropping out of yale. but yea its no good she wasn't exposed to people who are negative. people try to avoid it but it can make you stronger. there ARE jerks who just dislike you for no reason or "friends" who actually use you. she lucked out w/ her friendships being genuine like Paris and Lane really did have her back and were loyal.

Katalin S_07 In the original series, Rory had at least 2 trust funds, one from Edward’s mother and one from some relative of her father Christopher. This also doesn’t include what Edward probably willed to her when he passed. Plus she obviously had enough money to fly back and forth to England to see Logan. The reboot just wanted us to pretend that she was broke.

@Gauri Korde @chiraine1 It was a pity-offer. He and Shira weren't crazy about her dating Logan. I also don't think he spent enough time with her professionally to make that conclusion. Didn't he have multiple newspapers? The more professional thing to do, since she was dating his son (if he really did give one), was to refer her to one of his colleagues. If he wanted to make it up to her for the bad dinner gathering, try a casual lunch with just Logan, Mitchum and Rory. Apologize 'genuinely' and don't interfere in his son's relationship. I don't buy that he cared about her professional development. Rory ran the Yale Daily very well, but for the next step up she would have benefited from a good mentor. Really wish Christina Amanpour had taken her on. I don't think she's a bad journalist, but she definitely struggles in a bad market for journalism.

If only they thought about that sooner. She could have been the girl who dreamed of Yale, and her grandparents would try to change her mind and make her go to Harvard, because he did too. Then it wouldn't look so random that she goes to Yale And they could make Paris the one who decided to change her path and CHOOSE Yale over Harvard, finally be her own true self and not just be pressured by her family name.

True, although Stars Hollow is fictional, Yale is not. Lol, although keeping the show completely Connecticut-based made sense, it was pretty clear that she WANTED to go to Harvard (and they could have figured out a way to split Rory's character between Cambridge & Stars Hollow I'm sure), but Yale was easier to tie into the pre-existing plot. Either way, I'm glad Rory went to Yale. I went to Yale for graduate school myself (Gilmore Girls actually premiered during my second year at Yale 2000-2001), and I ❤'d it, although I'm from NYC & Southern Vermont originally, and had gone to college in Western Massachusetts first, but New England IS a small enough region where they could have tied it all together; but I think it worked out well character-wise that Rory went to Yale -- it gave the show a continuity flow it wouldn't have had.

Muzio Mattia Coppola it’s one of those moments that really strongly bonded me to Rory once I became that age. It was so comforting to know that even a fictional character with the world of opportunity in front of her and the brains and the talent could rethink college just like me. And as Rory did, after a while I weighed my options and went back to college too. Now more than ever do I find that arch important.

@@SugarCub exactly! It makes her relatable. She's not some super genius detached from the rest of the universe. It was an important moment that could give some relief to people struggling to find their passion in life. I can relate to her so much right now, it makes me feel less alone

I can relate to her crisis in season 6 as I almost took a time off from college myself. But in the end, the revival made the whole original show pointless, at least when it comes to Rory.

Actually I think the dropping out of Yale arc was really well made for the opposite reason. It was a pretty terrible decision that she made for herself because it's not what she wanted, but it made sense given her character arc which is pretty much her developing into an entitled person over the course of the show. We can actually see the development of this entitlement in Season 4 when she becomes more demanding of the people around her and starts thinking more things are about her than in reality, like with the story of the guy she asked out in the laundry room spreading the story of the girl who stalked him. Rory dropping out of Yale and expecting the people around her to accommodate her was the natural progression of that arc. She starts to get better in the latter half of Season 6 but in the original planned ending of Season 7 she would have regressed again and finally discovered that she's not good at journalism and she needs to find something else that she's good at-and this is why this was the plot of the revival. The revival was ultimately about the downfall of Rory Gilmore. They didn't wreck her character in the revival. That's who she fundamentally is and cannot stop being-until, that is, her pregnancy, which will probably affect her and make her a more whole and rounded person the way it did Lorelai.

@@UdyKumra I see your point. And I'm not discussing the development of Rory Gilmore. I believe that the arc of her dropping out of Yale was a actually a good decision. I'm not discussing the fact that she becomes more and more self centred. I said that she lives in a bubble. But I think that dropping out of Yale was the best decision she could have possibly have made because in the moment she had no goals in life at all, she needed that time to figure out what she wanted from life, if journalism was still her life goal. I think that arc teaches us that sometimes it's actually good to take some time for ourselves, take a break, look around and then start again. That's how I read it. I'm not discussing her character who, I believe, lived in a bubble for a long time. And yes, she proves many times that she's self centred. I'm discussing what that arc teaches us, how we can relate to that specific arc

Actually she was mad because her parents kind of pushed Rory to do so, and then when Rory applied she didn't tell her about it. It felt like she was going behind her back, and she wanted to make sure that no one pushed her daughter to do something. She always wanted for Rory to be independent and make her own decisions.

No it's not down playing. The grandparents were afraid of what lorelai said and it could be true that rory just chose yale because of their doing like Richard wanted Yale and Emily wanted to be closer hence the yale as what lorelai has stated in the dinner when the visitor asks what other school rory has applied in for back ups. So the grandparents now hearing rory choosing Yale made them guilty hence the silence between the two eventhough they wanted to scream which they did when ther were sure it was really what rory wanted.

Lorelai mostly pushed Harvard onto Rory cus Yale was where Richard went & she wanted to be as far away from her parents & anything to do with them & their lives as possible

AZ as Emily told Lorelai, Rory could live in Stars Hollow if she goes to Yale. After that, Lolerai started reading the Yale prospect. While Rory didn’t live in Stars Hollow, she was only half an hour drive or so away and she went home very often. Harvard was too far away.
