Dray is only making 25 million which is a bargain for what he does for the team when you look at contracts. Then also he was up before Klay and still signed a reasonable deal. I think the acquisition of Buddy Heild is an upgrade at this point, and he slots right into Klay’s role with no issues. A career 40% shooter, and I believe he and Steph are top two in three pointers made in the last five years. And he is very durable and rarely misses games. He also has never truly been unleashed. I think he is going to up his average considerably on this team. What do you think about the Heild acquisition?

The summer of 2022 after the championship, Poole began to be pushed as the future face of the franchise based on how well he played during the season and the playoffs. Poole's rookie contract was set to expire in Oct 2022. So the goal was always to pay him. Bob Myers talked about it during their 2022-2023 Media Day Press Conference. This was BEFORE the punch. It's on KZfaq so you can see it for yourself. He was going to get a new contact. Not just because of the punch. Draymond being Draymond jumped out that summer and asked for a new max deal but the Warriors said no, because they needed to prioritize Poole. Draymond still had 2 years left on his deal so Poole needed to be the priority. His contract was NOT expiring. Klay didn't come back from his injury during the 2022 year they won the championship until JANUARY! He had received a new 5 yr contact in 2019 that paid him $189 million when he was still injured. That contact ended this year of 2024 so he was not due for a contact. Them two dudes were just being selfish and that's why Jordan was punched. They felt they were pushed aside for him!

Draymond already had built up resentment against Poole before that 22 season was even over. He knew Jordan's rookie contract was coming up, that's why he punched him. Jordan got paid after the punch. That's why Draymond always says he was sad he couldn't celebrate with Jordan when he got paid because he had ALREADY punched him before he even got to sign the contract. That dismantles the narrative that Poole's head got big after the contract and got punched because of it. Narrative put out by Stephen A by the way. All lies to justify Draymond's behavior. As a Warriors fan, it is very obvious to me that these people did not watch Warriors games last season. They only look at stats, and did not see Klay's actual performance. They talk about the eye test when it suits them, but ignore it here. Klay was not effective, and should not have gotten any significant money. His demeanor also left a lot to be desired. It was very obvious on the bench and on the court. I can only imagine how he was in the locker room and otherwise.

It was just time to go for Klay, the two year hiatus really did a number to Klay's psyche and winning that 2022 Chip gave him a false sense of self value. The team will always try to short change players no matter what and its in the negotiation how much you get pay. I'll argue that the Warriors got better. Klay was unhappy and not playing at his best. Buddy Hield is the second best shooter in the league behind Steph. Kyle Anderson is a consistent role player replacing CP, who is not cut out for winning. If they land one more role player, they have a playoff ready team.
