Why The NBA Loves To LIE About Their Best Players as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew discuss how character issues are often overblown when it comes to the NBA Draft and explain how NBA Teams lie about their players to create narratives, like the Minnesota Timberwolves did to Jimmy Butler.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

@@TheTaekwon3 i guess they don't really have tangible proof. People in the offices aren't going to snitch on their bosses and coworkers. It's like what happened with Mac Jones, he called his college coaches to vent, and they went behind his back and told the Patriots staff about their conversations. The players are fighting an up hill battle and they don't really have allies in the situation.

Actually he was terrible in his last year in Chicago as a teammate. The team was awful, the head coaching sucked, and they had no direction. Jimmy is the last person in the NBA you want in that scenario cause he’ll make it worse by making it abundantly clear every single day. Him and Fred Hoiberg apparently didn’t speak to each other after like the first 2 months of the season. So yes, Chicago didn’t believe in him but he was also a terrible teammate and hated the coaching staff

He didn’t explicitly say he was a bad teammate cause it’s Jimmy’s contract year and that’ll fuck up the money but he didn’t say anything positive about Jimmy being in the locker room. Mainly that the whole thing was a cluster fuck and Jimmy is the last person you want in that situation. He’ll complain and be brutally honest about the situation in the moment which doesn’t create good chemistry. It makes morale plummet. Jeff Teague has repeatedly said the same thing. These cats are killing me. They don’t live in real life. All of this is about judging character. When you are putting GUARANTEED millions into someone you want to know everything. If you give a kid millions with no structure and they got in trouble without millions and structure, what do you think is likely to happen???Coaches have to tell the truth about players otherwise they screw up their credibility and their ability to vouch for any future player. I’m not saying you need to trash a player but you have to tell the truth.

The treadmill test isn't exactly done to check your physical shape. It's to see how you function internally. It's for your circulation and that sort of thing. You can always "push yourself to the limit" because your body can take it, but you don't know how your heart is handling it. There are people in tip top shape who later find out that they have problems with their heart after doing the stress test. Be it a partial block or something else, that's the test they conduct to determine that. They do it for jobs that take a toll on you physically.

The only people who would know a player is a bad teammate are the players who play with them. Character does matter. A perfect example is the late Aaron Hernandez. He was a murderer and a sociopath. But the NFL overlooked that and focused on his talent until his bad character came to light.

McCants has an accountability issue. It’s never his fault, he always blames others for the negative things that’s happened to him in his playing career yet it’s been consistent everywhere he’s gone in what they say about him. That’s no coincidence.

This conversation right here shows you why there are OWNERS, and there are PLAYERS, just the same as EMPLOYERS and EMPLOYEES..These players are really showing their lack of intelligence and very limited mindset. It’s a big check for sure, but someone is endorsing that check at the end of the day.

LOL, look at your presidents. Your comment shows you only agree with the mindset of racist America. The MAJORITY decides what is right and what is wrong. Name another multi-billion dollar industry where the employees get fined millions for saying something bad about a consultant (referee), or an entire paycheck for a touching someone (foul in a game). There is nothing fair about the treatment of the employees (players) of the NBA vs the return the owners receive from the production of the players.

lol saying people lack intelligence because you have a different opinion shows a lack of intelligence. These “players” are also OWNERS and EMPLOYERS outside of their basketball careers. There isn’t any single mindset or mentality for an Owner/Employer.

Gil back to his Gil logic. Stealing crab legs isn't about someone who once they get millions is going to stop being the kind of person who steals crab legs. If he says the atmosphere should be what molds the 19 yr old into being what's needed to be a successful team, how does he think that atmosphere got to be that way?

It's not always about character anytime you dealing with the corporate world if you don't fall in line like a robot weather makes sense or not they will Mark you as a bad character as well just because people is in charge don't mean to have a right mind or heart you have to judge things definitely then that way

The players won’t say anything because they don’t want to be a snitch. It doesn’t mean players like you or they don’t tell the coach shit you do. It’s just not that simple. And it’s not always legit labels. It’s complex. Keep your head low and be nice to folks. Don’t let people get you out of character. Safest way to the bag.
