Excellent insight I rarely hear. Bigger equipment means more set up and break down time that impacts the pace of the day. Neither is better or worse, but one or the other will likely fit your personal pace more smoothly. Then you have to choose between pushing beyond your limitations or accepting them. And on it goes...

I have a great Weebill S gimbal for my DSLR. but I had similar worries about how cumbersome it would be to use for the IPhone, with a long setup and balancing process. I found the middle ground of a DJI OM6 (about £130) smartphone gimbal worked really well for me, with about a 2 second set up time.

Thanks. Useful tips esoecially the one about using the tripod as a mic handle, especially as my mic is best in front of my mouth rather than on my chest. I have Insta360 Flow gimbal and there's no balancing issue. I have a Fulaim X5 (= Neewer CM28).

Yea, I wear that mic in all my video in my studio now, takes a little finesse in post but sounds great… thanks for your comment!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼. I did a little deep dive vid on the FULAIM / NEEWER crossover too.

@@GeneralBuckles Excellent. I just ordered a CM28. Can you give me any tips or ideas of what you do in post. I imagine EQ and compression. But what settings on the EQ work best for this MIC?
@GeneralBuckles
@GeneralBuckles 4 ай бұрын
@@andrewnorris5415 DM me on Instagram and I'll send you some screen shots. But overall.... it's very dependent on you in terms of EQ... you'll want to copy the same track a few times , set one to NO filters or EQ and 1 by 1 add and adjust like 4-5 versions side by side and just sus out what makes YOU sound the best. The main things to start with are a Limiter and Multiband Compressor... then futz with EQ.

I think this is where the DJI Pocket 3 steps in… 🤔 My dream DJI Pocket would be the Air 3 drone dual camera set up on a bigger handle with a bigger screen and bigger battery. They could call it the DJI Jacket Pocket.

I've been seeing a lot of new vids dropping about this one... it's JUST been released yea? It seems like a GREAT tool by your description. My only (personal) concern is adding another camera to the arsenal. Imma take a closer look at it now though. THANK YOU!!!!

@@GeneralBuckles that description is just my fantasy wish list. Recently I chose a GoPro 10 in preference to the Pocket 3, suits my needs better. Cheaper too.

yeah, in making this one I'm realizing the vast array of KINDs of creators have so many different needs and specific gear that will fit those needs...on top of their personal preferences.... it's mind boggling. Will probably stick to reviews of individual pieces of gear.

Why not use something in the middle. There are other gimbals that attach the phone and shoot. BTW Hohem offers there own mic system that is cheep and small that is engineered to attach the mic receiver with no compromise to the set up. -If you want to go 3rd party the Hohem provides 1/4 mounts. That can be used to perform simple hack by attaching the mic receiver and run a line to the phone. -A cleaner hack that I saw requires an adhesive sticky-cold-shoe attached to the gimbal at one of the axles. That where the receiver would be mounted, then run a line to the phone.

Thanks for your detailed response. Although I would argue that the HOHEM Mic was not AT ALL engineered to attached to the Gimbal set up without compromise. It's rounded oval shape and direct plug design forces the user to slide the phone left/up and increase the imbalance (In both portrait / landscape) . So far.... the 90 degree dongle used with the NEEWER CM28 / FULAIM X5 actually reduces the balance compromise.

@@GeneralBuckles First of all, I have never owned or used a gimbal. Therefore I don't pretend to make arguments based on my experience. However, I have been researching and watching a lot of videos. Some of those videos provided by Hohem. The Hohem mic receiver is small/thin and light. The Hohem gimbal is engineered to support 400 grams. This is one the the Hohem selling points over the competition. I've seen examples people using the camera with and without a cellphone case. I've seen example with filters attached. On the Hohem homepage, they show a photo example with a small shotgun mic attached to the mounting as well as a fill light on a 1/4 mount attachment on one the axel arms. I'm a long time still photographer. I have used a lot of the same equipment that videographers might use. As I said upfront, video is a new path, but I do feel that it is a path that is somewhat familiar. ...Thank you for your earlier reply👍

I'm curious how you did the effect at the start when you showed the difference between the high pitched voice and the radio bass voce sound? Is there an audio app where you could treat the sound?
@GeneralBuckles
@GeneralBuckles 6 ай бұрын
I use Davinci Resolve to edit my videos, and it wasn’t anything super fancy, just used the EQ sliders to crank up&down the bass or treble of the audio of those clips.

Intersting cos I was interested in a gimbal setup - or indeed ones like the Osmo mentioned below - but the cost put me off. I indeed use a Boya M1V wireless mic - sound quality could be better but it's better than those tiny ones - and a selfie tripod. My use case is hiking...and you really don't have hours to setup a shot, more briefly stopping. I get far too much shakycam cos I try and walk and talk - not great - the problem being that all the gimbal systems seem like they are either massive or expensive or both? I guess what I really might want is a tripod mount for my walking sticks! And stop and talk/use the tripod function, or hand hold and stop, rather than move. Shame cos those walking shots when they work, are ace. But my cheap **s phone's stabilisation is not good. Maybe iPhone's is better?
@GeneralBuckles
@GeneralBuckles 6 ай бұрын
Stabilizing often requires the outer edges of the image to get cropped so on an iphone that might not be ideal....For action stabilization you might want to look at the GoPro's. recording in 4k and then outputting in 1080p for youtube should look fantastic and loosing the outer edge for stabilizing won't be an issue. another solution for holding it is that flexi - tripod i showed in the video being used as a mic holder... its super handy to hold but also to set down on uneven surfaces quickly.
@harduphiker
@harduphiker 6 ай бұрын
@@GeneralBuckles yes I record in 4K and do exactly that. I can't afford a GoPro, also on long hikes, I really don't want to take another thing, as I need the phone for GPS. Hence why my rig is phone based - carrying all that extra gear for 20-30 miles on my back is not an option!
@harduphiker
@harduphiker 6 ай бұрын
@@GeneralBuckles my selfie tripod has legs, like the ones you showed, it seems to handle uneven surfaces OK. If not, I wedge my pack onto it, or a rock.

@@harduphiker I hear ya on cost....the gopro hero 10 is tiny, runs about $250 and would work great but I don't know about the audio options there. My concern is always battery, I never like to have my filming depend on my primary phone. I actually have an old iphone 8 I use for a lot of filming and it saves me losing storage space on my primary (iphone 12)
@harduphiker

@@GeneralBuckleslooking at the DJI Action and GoPro 8/9/10/mini 11 etc it's surprising how short the battery life is (looking on GoPros site for say the Hero 10, it seems 4K 30fps I shoot at currently is...74 minutes?! I have shot for hours on my phone). It's tempting but also another thing to carry = another thing to charge = larger battery packs or extra batteries and maybe more cables etc. I used to walk with a full DSLR rig when I was photographing my walks, that was bad enough and I was day hiking! Add the art gear and tent and all that well, GoPros aren't really ultralight. Also the lack of an external mic port and needing another dongle / case that costs a lot extra is a bit of a dealbreaker. Why didn't they just put a TRRS jack in?
