"Gimme Shelter" is a track we have wanted to record for years. This song expresses the urgency we all face to unite together as a planet and offers us wisdom with the words, "War, children, it's just a shot away... Love, sister, it's just a kiss away". It really is that simple. We dedicate this song to all the lost, homeless and forgotten people in this world. It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

The powers know this, which is why they’ve spent so much time since first censoring Elvis from the waist down on tv to banning tunes from radio, to putting parental Discretion labels on records to ensuring ‘dumb’ music like mindless pop songs dominate the mainstream. I’ve learnt so much from some of favourite singers and artists. Far more important things than what I learnt in school. The last thing the powers that be want is One Unity Of people.

I think it is important to acknowledge the most excellent work Mark Johnson does on producing sound and mixing it to perfection. I don't know any other youtube projects that great such a beautiful sound. Thank you Mark and all you crew. Also Sebastian Robbertson for "The Weight" and helping out on your Dad's song. A Band fan since the Hawks.

Charlie, on the other hand, detests it. Only kidding! Killer version.
@slimturnpike
@slimturnpike 4 жыл бұрын
@@4ctmam I think Charlie probably would detest it. It's lost the rhythmic drive completely. I appreciate it the way it is, but man it feels gutted by comparison to most other versions of the song. Great cause though. Most of the Playing for Change series I really like, musically speaking, but not this one.
@4ctmam
@4ctmam 4 жыл бұрын
@@slimturnpike Well, it's a very different take, it loses the original groove totally, yeah. But I like that it's different, otherwise what's the point of doing a cover? And this version brings ouit the melodic aspects of the composition more.

This is without a doubt the best cover I have EVER heard of this Stones classic. The tempo was very imaginative, cooled it down and gave it a serious tone that made you ponder the point the song is making. Roselyn Williams killed it (she's OH so good looking, too!); she's the only person I've heard sing who can project power and serenity simultaneously. What resounds though the entire set is the bass line and Roberto Luti's sliding on that beat-up old steel guitar that must have a million miles on it by now. The emphatic timing of Taj Mahal's belts is like an atomic clock. Such a great piece, and like you I was knocked off my feet by this. Masterpiece.
