@junaid1 Israel has excellent PR but its belligerency in recent years has caused a loss of credibility, allies or not. Moreover, it is democracy in name only. In truth it is an ethno-theocracy pretending to be democratic: no written constitution, laws that discriminate against non-Jews, Ultra-orthodox discriminating against women, Arab-Israelis are second class citizens in their own country. It goes on and on. The moderate people of Israel need to stand up to the hardliners and end the madness.

Hamas being extremly unbalanced could be a result of agressors on both sides wanting an organisation that will enable continous conflict. Hamas point of view does enable continued war and that is in the interest of the military industrial complex.

I seriously doubt they took a popular vote in the area to see if people were willing to give up their territory so that others can setup shop there. What is the source of the name “Palestine?” It is not Arab; it is derived from the name “Palestina,” by which the Roman Emperor Hadrian chose to call the land after the defeat of the Bar Kokhba Revolt in 135 CE. His aim was to erase “Judea.” According to Palestinian historian Muhammad Y. Muslih, during the entire 400 year period of Ottoman rule (1517-1918), before the British set up the 30-year-long Palestine Mandate, “There was no political unit known as Palestine.” In Arabic, the area was known as al-Ard al-Muqadassa (the holy land), or Surya al-Janubiyya (southern Syria), but not Palestine. Not a single Palestinian tribe identifies its roots in Canaan; instead, they all see themselves as proud Arabs descended from the most notable Arab tribes of the Hejaz, today’s Iraq, or Yemen. Even the Kanaan family of Nablus locates its origins in Syria. Some Palestinian clans are Kurdish or Egyptian in origin, and in Mount Hebron, there are traditions of Jewish origins. THE philistines were wiped out. every other arab that lived in israel imagrated from other regions. there has always been a hebrew presence in the land even when rome tried to erradicate israel by complext long term means. renaming israel to palestine was an attempt to erase ISRAEL because of ROMES emperor worship and idol worship. ROMAN CRUELTY AND BRUTALITY gave us the name "Palistine" there were NO philistines in palestine. God told ISREAL to wipe them out completely in ancient times because of their wickedness. obviously modern people do not understand or validate GODS plan his purpose or HIS WORD the BIBLE. which is why this issue makes no sense to people with only surfacy rhetoric and no knolwedge of the history and the Bible.

The Romans, in a fit of spite, reapplied the term “Palestine” to the Land of Israel centuries later in 135 CE. In effect, the Romans sought to erase the association between the Land of Israel and the Jewish people. The Palestine moniker stuck long after the Roman Empire fell

The difference, Newt, is that the USA is not actively setting up settlements in Mexican territory -- I think Mexico would consider that an act of war as well. You have to look at these things in a broader context. Obviously the rocket attacks are horrible, and there's no denying that some of Hamas's views are non-negotiable. However, nobody on the Republican side has the balls to condemn the continued Israeli settlements in public.

@junaid1 By framing this as a "Jews Only" issue you're proving the point that this goes beyond geopolitical / security considerations but treading into the area of ethnocentric beliefs. This is not the way to plead the case for Israel; you're arguments provide the ammunition critics of Israel have been arguing, which is: zionism IS racism. Whatever injustices Jews have suffered, that does not make a nation or its state above the law. PS. there is no such thing as a self-hating Jew.

The Greek historian Herodotus recorded Palaestinê in the mid 400's BC, using it to describe the land between Egypt and Phonecia. The first recorded instance of the name is around 1150 BC in Egypt as PLST. It was not "invented" by the Romans, it was just a geographical term. You have no idea what you're talking about

Since the Israeli state was created in My 1948 by overwhelmingly 'immigrant' Jews, it really is stretching it to talk of the Palestinians as being an invented people !!? Perhaps Gingrich would like to visit the world famous British Museum in London ? There he can see the section dedicated to Ancient Syria & Palestine but he may disappointed in that he won't find anything on Ancient Israel, why ? well because almost everything relating to ancient Israel is in the bible and nowhere else ...

On the contrary, it is the Israel who are the 'the invented people'. Also, the first time Jerusalem was part of Israel was in May 1948, in ancient times it was part of Judea not the backwater state Israel and the ancient Israelites were (archaeological evidence suggests) descended from the Caananites (Palestinians) They were a faction that fled to the hills with the arrival of the Philistines. Around 1900, the population of Palestine was approx 3-4% Jewish and there were no problems.
