Ain’t it the truth. All of these kids doing reactions are merely scratching the surface, and have no idea how deep the well is. Ginos’ musicians in studio and touring were always top shelf. As a DJ in the Classic Era, we need guys like you who know the landscape, and can put emphasis and context where needed, instead of the constant hit and miss. The most requested songs aren’t always the high points in any artists’ career. Regards

Gino is the epitome of fusion in pop. Jazz from Montreal, definitely think that Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, early Weather Report, Tito Puente they are all in there. The sophistication of the changes is an absolute treat. And Gino performs live as well or better. The dude can sing!

Joe Vannelli is the keyboard player. Gino started out as a drummer but his voice was so good, he was persuaded to be a singer/frontman. Two talented brothers! If you love this, you will also love Storm at Sunup and Where Am I Going, both from the Storm at Sunup album.

I love Gino Vannelli! So cool that you've chosen one of his records for your 700th video. This is a great choice because it does show off several different facets of Vannelli's music where it wanders into Progressive and Jazz territory, yet the music is always accessible. As Lex said his music has an element of cheese but it's a very tasty cheese that I've enjoyed for almost 50 years. The album title 'Brother To Brother' referred to the fact that brother Ross Vannelli joined the group on this album. On previous albums the group was led by brothers Gino and Joe Vannelli on keyboards. Gino just released a new album a few years back and he still has that voice. I hope you'll consider the songs 'Powerful People' or 'Fly Into This Night' if you decide to do another Vannelli reaction. Thanks for this video.

Between 1977 to 1982, I worked part time at the Montreal Forum, as an employee, I had the opportunity to see all the concerts and hockey games presented at the Forum. Among others: Queen, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Moody Blues, The Woo, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Nazareth, and many more. The best job of my life. Indeed, Gino Vannelli, as well as Frank Zappa had a sound quality that few bands had at the time.

The guitarist, Carlos RIos, has played on a lot of albums as a session musician. You more than likely heard him solo before without knowing who it was. He even played on Larry Carlton's 'Sleep Walk' Album. It's no accident that Gino sounds so great as he has great musicians, including his brother, with him to complement his amazing voice.

Guys, I loved this reaction. I was fortunate enough to grow up with much of the music you are reacting to, including the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Chicago, and especially Gino Vannelli. His catalog from the seventies into the early eighties is amazing. Some other songs of his you will want to possibly react to are: From Powerful People (1974): “People Gotta Move” “Powerful People” From Storm at Sunup (1975): “Where am I Going?” “Love Is A Night” From The Gist of the Gemini (1976): “Love of My Life” “Fly Into This Night” From A Pauper In Paradise (1977): “Maradi Gras” “The Surest Things Can Change” More from “Brother to Brother (1978): “Feel Like Flying” From Nightwalker (1981): “Living Inside Myself” ( you may have heard this one as it got airplay back in the day) “I Believe”

Wow!! Finally! I've been waiting so anxiously for you guys to try out Gino and finally... here it is! Wonderful! Gino's production value and use of musicians is up there with steely Dan and the musicians are not always the same people too. You'll find out that he, like Steely Dan, is in his own category. I believe Steve Gadd, or Mark Craney was drummer on this song if I remember correctly. This album is more on the commercial side but fantastic nonetheless. You guys should try hearing his earlier albums like Storm at Sunup, Gist of the Gemini and Pauper in Paradise. I look forward to your other Gino reactions in the future. Thank you!

You just scratched the surface with this masterpiece ...the depth of his world is waiting for you both to discover ...He has had incredible musicians around him Like Richard Baker on keys ,mark Craney rip on drums and let me tell you ..After 3 live performances ...as good as the actually recordings to beyond ..and a true performer I was gifted or cursed with a good voice and perfect pitch and Gino and his bands were ...perfect Everytime In the 70s we called him Broadway/ jazz /fusion Incredibly melodic and rythmic always ..as a drummer you can tell in his compositions Hits were great ....but his works and catalog of music is so far ahead ...especially for the ealy 70s ...like Yes ,ELP ,Crimson ,floyd ...he is that kind of visionary and immense talent ... And the VOICE perfect head / chest ,breath intonation, contro Most don't know him but we in the search for more DO You both need to delve into his works ...Great works you do Like yes ,Dan and all the albumd amf artists that make up the greatest era of growthbexpansion in the world of musical history ...and tirning people onto and exposing them to soul stiring mudic ❤👍👍👍👍🤡🤡💯💯💯💯💯☮️

What a great reaction! I guess I've always loved this piece and it appears so do you. Given my love for fusion and prog rock, Gino was always a perfect fit for me. There were also a few stellar artists involved with the production I had not heard of at the time. Like Jimmy Hasiip of that subsequent favorite fusion group of mine, the Yellowjackets. And Carlos Rios, who became part of Chick Corea's Elektric band. Carlos' guitar solo in the middle is nothing short of legendary, so much that Rick Beato dedicated a full analytical video just to it. There are many Gino Vannelli pieces I love, with favorite album, not-so-mainstream "The Gist of the Gemini". "Storm at Sunup" is also up there and you may perhaps consider the title track for a future reaction video. As with much of Gino's work, this piece effortlessly transcends many preconceived boundaries..

👏👏. Gino always surrounds himself with stellar musicians. One of my favorite drummers Mark Craney (RIP) played on this album. Saw Gino and his band about 7 years ago in a small casino in the Northwest. He still has it. The band killed it! Thank you for reacting to him. By the way I noticed you have a Jean-Luc Ponty album in the background. Mark Craney played drums on Ponty's Imaginary Voyage.

And Casey Scheureull, the drummer in Gino's band prior to Craney was also in Ponty's band. So was guitarist Daryl Steurmer, who did the 'Brother to Brother' tour before moving on to Genesis and Phil Collins' band. BTW, the guitarist on 'Brother to Brother', Carlos Rios, has for many years been in Stevie Nicks band alongside here other guitarist Waddy Wachtel.

Really glad you reacted to Gino Vannelli!!! One of the most fantastic artists that goes unrecognized by today's standards. I met him at a meet and greet back in 1977, and for as energetic as he was on stage he was very quiet in person. Very nice, but very quiet. His shows were phenomenal with his powerful voice and stage presence, and the synthesizers made the show sound like a full orchestra!!! And much of his music was EXTREMELY complex!!!! Was fortunate to see him live 4 times!! If you want to hear how phenomenal he was live, check out "Where Am I Going" live from Montreal!!!

In December of 1976, Geno Vannelli came to Louisville during one of the worst winter storms in living memory. We waited outside in line during a blizzard to get in for almost an hour. Then we finally got in, and waited for over two hours before they announced that Geno's truck carrying their instruments was stuck in the snow on the interstate, and that they would have to use locally acquired instruments in order to play the concert. So we waited til the instruments arrived. Then they had to set up. Another delay. Test the PA/sound system. Delay. They finally walked out on the stage at about 11:30 that evening, profusely apologizing. Then played for three straight hours in one of the best jazz fusion concerts I've ever seen. He is a very gracious, and a very talented man.

Thanks for playing Gino. Your mic was off or very low volume so I missed most of your comments on my phone ... song was loud. Anyhow, check out Pauper in Paradise.

Wow… this was a surprise! Gino was always in a “cheesy, hair band, Kenny G “ category in my head… Like 1980’s Chicago to Nick… I wonder how many Gino songs are this hood?!🧐

Amazing chord progressions. Gino Vanelli was a fusion vocal artist who struck gold a couple of times, but should have been even bigger.

I once had a coffee table book on the history of the Canadian music scene called ‘Heart of Gold’ (the title of one of Neil Young’s most famous songs). It was published in the mid 80’s, so it only went up to that point. Gino Vanelli had an entire chapter devoted to him…

oh my goodness if you are going to do Gino Vanelli and want to get the same groove as Steely Dan you have to do, Where am I going, from the Storm at Sunup album. I Guarantee you will be blown away.

Hey guys! This Gino Vanelli album has lots of great musicianship and deep cuts like: “Appaloosa” that just kicks butt. Your audio seems to be out of phase on this episode. Don’t know if there’s a double-bussing loop happening?

Also influenced by Herb Alpert in terms of production. He emphasized sound quality for instance. Also the use of very high and very low sounds simultaneously for contrast. Gino Vanelli goes from corny to epic so you will have to listen to everything and see what you like. People Gotta Move was a spectacular dance hit with some really exciting parts. Hard not to like

Great first song to react to from Gino. Soooo much great material to listen. For some reason I always separate the 70s Gino with the 80s Gino, but both decades have big hits.

I am soooooo happy you guys did this track!! Gino is amazing and that is one of the most underrated albums ever! Amazing playing and of course his vocals and compositions are top notch! Love it! Try “Love and Emotion” next on that album.

Gino has a unique "flavor" unlike any other. His earlier material, "A Pauper in Paradise", "Storm at Sunup" and the rest of this album are worthy of further exploration. Highly recommended.

I remember getting picked up by a lady in the 70s, when I was rocking a fro. Her bedroom was covered in Gino posters, and that was all she played. This brings back some interesting memories. Could not compete with Gino's fro tho. Great musician too! He just sorta vanished. Like the hairstyle. I am envious as funk of your Snarky Dan future. Hezký víkend!

Wow I can't believe you're reacting to the magnificent Gino Vanelli. I got into Gino from a track I heard on a local radio station in Glasgow through the night called Total Stranger,it's from an album called Black Cars which is excellent. You need to react to The Gist Of The Gemini album which is Gino's best in my opinion, you'll love it....Moog synthesisers etc. Keep up the great work 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Saw him live on this tour in Dallas in ‘78. He came out wearing a white Dallas Cowboys jersey (#33 TD) and metallic blue shiny pants. Killed it. BTW, the audio was messed up on this. I double checked a couple other vids to make sure it wasn’t my phone.

Gino Vannelli is so much more than a pop singer. His 1970s albums were nothing less than vocal jazz-rock. Other great albums are Storm at Sunup (1975) and Gist of the Gemini (1976) featuring the great Graham Lear (later with Santana) on drums.

Not really my cup of tea, but that's OK! Congrats on 700 videos and kudos for doing something different. What's great is I always learn and find out stuff from all the great comments below. It's especially nice to see when a musician you like has played with someone unexpected! As always, looking forward to the next reaction. Cheers from Yorkshire!
