Agree with him, I don't think you can just say 'Entertainers' or 'High-pressing' or ''Controlling' as a philosophy or identity, it's not as simple as just saying that's what you are and then you start playing like that, the way City or Liverpool is totally unique to the players and coach, it all fits, it happens when you have all the right people. Newcastle have appeared like 2 or 3 totally different teams this season, we're forcing styles. I don't think there's need for panic though, I think Howe can be the foundation for us, we have the funds now to bring in the right pieces slowly, but there's going to be more 5-1's along the way, I'm not too concerned, it's just part of the process, overall we've come on leaps and bounds this season.

Indeed. I understood what he was talking about immediately. "Esprit de corps" they call it. Team comes together when your back's against the wall. Not capitulate at the first set back. Simples. I love what Ginola did there. He's putting a standard on the rest of the league. If Tottenham lose 5-1 against Liverpool they'd get battered by the pundits. Just because Newcastle isnt a top 6 side, doesn't mean it should be ok to lose 5-1 when you were winning in the first half. Newcastle should be hammered by the pundits. The league has become too easy for the top teams, it was never like that 15 years ago.

I’m a Spurs fan, and Ginonla was 100% correct. You have to remember that English is his second language, and the way he expressed himself was from a continentals’ point of view. Newcastle lacked character, spirit, discipline, cohesiveness; the mentality of a team who bonds well, and works together as a unit. They need a manager/coach who can instill those traits, in a similar fashion as Conte is doing with us.

Newcastle just lost 5-1 granted first half they were ok and there safe from relegation but it's not good enough to accept this type of performance and move on theres clearly still issues left with this squad that recent results have covered up. That was poor from Dave Jones just laughing in his face he was clearly Hurt and that's just lazy saying what you want them be more like the entertainer's!!!that was 30 years ago nearly move on Ginola was clearly saying they need a passionate team with a philosophy that fits them they had none of that today.

Love David, what a great player he was. So hard to remember if he was even left footed or not because he was so good with both. I get what he’s saying & it’s hard to disagree with him - but he’s speaking more because he loves Newcastle rather than logical thought. Newcastle weren’t that bad last night, the scoreline definitely flattered Spurs, and you have to remember the gulf in quality of the players at these clubs right now. Spurs have some of the best players in the world right now & nobody can argue with that. Newcastle are a club that could easily have gone down a few months ago but the job has been done so far by Eddie Howe - come in, steady the ship, stop it sinking, then look at improving personal & steady building a team in summer. To expect them to compete with Spurs right now is ridiculous, but at the same time nobody likes seeing their team get thumped 5-1, especially after taking the lead. Great to see David though, hero for both these great teams.

I think that Newcastle arn't far away from having a decent mid-table season next year. They need to work out how to get Shelvey, Jolinton and Willock working together in the middle, when they are defending. I like Jolinton, but my goodness he wasn't ever close to the guy he was marking - in contrast, Shelvey looked like he was defending the whole pitch on his own, at moments. That competitive hunger will be the basis on which where Newcastle begin to re-build. Good luck, from a Villa fan..!!

We were awful second half we need a stronger defence midfielders that are strong and are aggressive and provide more protection for the back 4 defending as one and midfielders that don’t rush a pass or run tirelessly because it’s just a waste of time and loses us points and a prolific goal scorer maybe two

We need another 10-15 signings over the next 3 years to get more depth in the team, and many of our current players just aren't good enough. There needs to be competition, even for our best players. There needs to be consequences for bad performances.

Ginola was spot on here. When he said scrape the squad he didnt mean get rid of everyone but he was on about how they need to reset the squad and build from the ground up. He was spot on about that performance and that the team wasent good enough. I hated he disrespect from the host laughing at him along with defoe and merson. I think he was brutal but he was spot on

Höwe, despite his quality, has had some issues with the organisation of his defence. His Bournemouth sides, while easy on the eye, always had a soft underbelly (exacerbated by the departure of Nathan Ake) .

I wasn’t convinced by his appointment at Newcastle but he has achieved the required results. What was important was keeping the side in the Premier League and that appears to have been achieved. It will be a bigger test with higher expectations next season.

@@eldante4139 yeah...one must also taken into account the profile of players that club targets. Man City, in the early days, went for marquee signings like Robinho, Elano etc. Furthermore, I am curious to see the role that Dan Ashworth plays in recruiting and building the club.

They need to stop comparing Newcastle to a team that played nearly 30 years ago. This is the impact that Kevin Keegan has left on the club. Good times but I just feel every squad that has been since then has been compared to it and it’s a lot of pressure for the teams and the manager. Mind you tho the legacy Keegan left I would be shocked if they didn’t atleast name a stand after him. No other manager that never won anything in football history had the impact on a club then what he did. Fair play.

Ginola said what the majority of Newcastle fans think. Definitely need more like him who speak with knowledge and passion, unlike many of the thick as brick pundits. Having said that Newcastle have more identity now that we have a half decent manager in Howe. Give the bloke the chance and the money and the team will be rebuilt and thank the heavens that the previous regime has gone forever.
