Very appropriate for our days and a brilliant man indeed. There is no language without a story, the story is the language.

Most important writer today. Great and unique stylist as well, though some translations better than others. His French is so good but he replies 'yes' with his Italian 'si.' Cool guy.

34:53:"But don't gestures only work as commands because they were essentially codified from a linguistic command?" What an interesting thought: my assumption, maybe unconscious, would've been that since apes use gestures, gestures must be a more primitive form of command than linguistic commands. That they would instead be derived from linguistic commands is a surprise!
@lenablochmusic2 жыл бұрын
that what Agamben says is however true. Same gestures in different languages (cultures) can mean very different commands, something like a thumb up in the US on a highway means "I need a ride". In Italy, it means "I want a screw-up". In India, people shake their head to show great appreciation and support - in Europe, shaking your head means "No". Human gestures come after the language, replacing this particular language words.

+Michalis Loggos Hi Michalis, Since you included English subtitles, is there a possibility you can share the subtitles, in a document or as in like a transcript? I could type everything over myself, but thought if you already have it it is easier. Thanks!!
@akisgavriilidis6278 жыл бұрын
+Floor Sally Hi. What exactly do you mean? Why type everything over? Are the EN subs not visible?
@psgrenier4 жыл бұрын
The subtitles are in Greek.

Voyez svp "De l'homme", Jacques Poulain, Cerf, 2001
