Tiffany has a low and husky tone, so it's difficult for her to cover Jessica's parts because Jessica is a soprano. Their voices are too different in pitch and tone, so it sounds very odd. When Seohyun sings higher, her voice becomes a bit more nasal, and since Jessica's voice sounds a bit nasal and high to begin with, the maknae's voice matches pretty well and sounds somewhat similar to Jessica's. Also, Seohyun's pretty good at imitating people's voices, so maybe she practiced beforehand. I'm kind of sad that Sunny didn't cover as much because she can sing pretty high.

tmi, tiff is soprano too. and i prefer they cover with their normal voice than trying to be and replace each other.

I kinda of thing Seohyun gets too heady as her Tone is neutral while Jessica is high. So it's expected for her to be nasal/heady. I hear her being husky though in reaching Jessica note. I give Yuri a maybe while covering Taeyeon cause during the debut era Yuri voice was as Powerful as Taeyeon and they had the same lines. Same as Yoona for Jessica(ITNW) Tiffany Sooyoung sounds the same(Tears) For some people I put a (?) is because while they can cover the part. I kinda of want them to remain the same or their range isnt as great as the member their supposed to Covered. Like Seohyun a maybe for Jessica cause Seohyun struggles to reach the notes/ the tone Same with Sooyoung and Yuri. Sooyoung a maybe her lows aren't as Good as Yuri. Yuri Hyoyeon can cover Tiffany cause her lows are a bit weaker but both have a husky tone and deep voice Those with (?) would struggle in covering the parts. Like Seohyun and Tiffany Jessica high note Sooyoung in Tiffany Low notes Or they sound weird

I think Taeyeon's parts are the hardest to cover, followed by Jessica and Tiffany. Taeyeon's parts are wide ranged, from high notes to low notes. Only Jessica can match the high notes. Jessica's parts are more high pitched, which only Taeyeon can properly cover. Tiffany's part is hard to cover because it's quite low at times and her adlibs, but still coverable by some members. The rest are easier to cover in terms of vocal range and difficulty level.

To be honest Tiffany has a really deep and husky voice that doesn't match Jessica's. Jessica has more of a sweet and soft voice.

This just proves that everyone's part in the group is important and hard to replace. So stop blaming other members for covering or that the particular member sucks at covering, they too wanted all 9 to be on the stage.

When you realize that only Jessica can cover Taeyeon (I know Seohyun covered some but most of them are covered by Jessica) because she's the only one that is capable enough to go for those lines. And how Hyoyeon never miss any stage because she never really has other priorities except SNSD.

Sunny and taeyeon would be the best ones to cover for sica since their voices are relatively similar to hers and they are more stable and consistent when it comes to singing. Tiff ranks a little below sunny in terms of her singing abilities though SM kept giving her more parts to sing.

Tiffany has a deep & husky voice, but powerful at the same time. Tiffany will be the best at covering raps, medium notes, & some high notes that suits with her voice. Sorry for my bad english.

Honestly, I think often Jessica doesn't get enough credit for really holding the group together vocally, especially in the earlier years, because if Taeyeon isn't there, Jessica is the only one consistent and level enough to always cover anything, on short notice. People may dislike her voice, because it's a bit high and whiny, but there's no questioning her consistency and calm mindset on stage.

I agree. But it doesn't seem like Jessica doesn't really care for singing anymore. Well it just seems like she cares more for fashion and the visuals nowadays bc it seems her singing is getting worse. Not that I think she's a bad singer now but in my opinion she stopped progressing and went a little backwards, vocally that is.

Damn I guess the songwriters actually did a good job writing parts that caters to each vocalist's sound because some parts didn't sound right when another singer sings it. Jessica's parts are really unique and it doesn't sound right when Tiffany or Seohyun sings it. Same thing for everyone else.

Taeyeon sounds good covering Jessica's part because their vocal colour is quite similar, they are both strong and high. But I get what you mean, Tiffany couldn't pull of Jessica's part in The Boys at all.

In 2021 we learn that - No one can replace each other part perfectly - SNSD slay even early in their career - All of them can sing - Their mics are on - They eat cd as usual - And even when only 5 member on the stage (1 main vocal, 1 lead vocal) they can cover the rest (we know this because of Oh!GG), that's how amazing they are. Imagine any other girl group when only half of their member available, I doubt they will perform as good as SNSD

Christinfany Pun Tiffany CAN hit SOME high notes BUT it's unstable and is unpleasant. And it's not as high as Seohyun cause their vocal ranges are so much different from each other. Seohyun is a soprano while Tiffany is an alto.

PROOF that each member has a WIDE RANGE in their vocals! Even though members are missing, they can make a song work, without it sounds too off or incomplete... I mean, I know a lot of people will say Tiffany's vocals aren't good to cover Jessica's parts, but it works, at least I think so. I know she can't hit Jessica's high notes perfectly, but she's working on it, I mean MR. MR., she is killing it!!!!

seohyun seems the most versatile when it comes to covering other member's parts; usually she can match the original without messing up notes or harmonies and the quality of her voice usually matches the original pretty closely (which could be SM assigning parts well but who knows)

I'm sorry SM tiffany is a great singer but stop giving a her Jessica part to cover. Tiffany cannot cover for Jessica she doesn't have control of her vocal especially when it comes to hitting those notes. Please give it to Sunny or Taeyeon... better yet just let Sunny do it her voice is the closet to Jessica plus she has way more control of her vocals than Tiffany does. This is just sad.... poor Tiffany is straining. Please stop it hears when I see or hear poor Fany struggling to get those notes.

Actually if you listen close enough you can tell that the voice of the original member (that wasn't there) doing the part is still playing in the background, just faint and soft, as compared to those of the members that are actually singing on stage.

most Korean girlbands/boybands do sing live on tv shows, while having the recorded voice played in the background as well(which is called AR, in low volume). it's because they have to dance and might miss some parts

Tiffany has such a husky great voice, so it annoys me when she covers members that voices are too different and not right for her. It makes Tiffany appear to be unable to sing.

Annie Nguyen Same, her voice isn't capable of being a cute nasally voice. Same with Taeyeon really, when they started out I thought her voice was too deep for the cutesy music.

Tiffany strains her voice which damages it when she covers softer voices as she has to higher her pitch altogether. don't get butthurt! I love Tiffany but I know when she's ruining her voice.

+Em Don't get angry, girl. As a Tiffany stan, I don't want to read bad comments about her. Every fan knows this feeling, maybe even you. And btw, i didn't said you're the one who is annoying. I asked why her voice is annoying, not you being annoying. Well, anyway I know her voice may sound annoying to others sometimes but idk why but I really don't get annoyed at her voice. As we all know Tiffany has gone a surgery in her throat right? Let us just support each member. I respect your opinion but please accept my opinion too. I'm not getting butthurt but I just really don't feel good about those bad comments about Tiffany.

Seohyun and Taeyeon can match Jessica's part but I think Seohyun will be better with it if it's not too high, because she has a soft voice like Jessica(?). I mean, Taeyeon's voice feels very strong, she suits covering Tiffany's parts. The others, ugh well, Sooyoung and Sunny did great. XD

I was always wondering: Jessica is ALWAYS the one who covers Taeyeon when she's missing 'cuz only Jessica can manage Taeyeon's difficult parts as good as Taeyeon. But why not Taeyeon is the one ALWAYS let to cover Jessica's parts even most of them also are the hardest parts in the songs. Tiffany and Seohyun do the cover well but it would be better if Taeyeon cover those parts. But then I remember that Taeyeon and Jessica get the most lines in the songs, if they ALWAYS and ONLY cover each other when the other is missing, the songs will be like their solo performance with many back up singers. So now it really makes sence.

It's chaos when taeyeon or jessica is missing..... and that is why snsd never performs when the two main vocals are missing, so snsd needs 1 main vocal to survive a single perf.. TaengSic FTW!!!

lol dont make your jess like a queen that no one can beat her. tbh every line have their hardness level. but jess lines not always that difficult. and every time i hear seo cover jess lines, i see that she change her tone. i prefer they cover with normal voice instead change their tone and just wanna replace each other. all of them has their own colour.

It is because her voice is unique, and her parts usually hard to sing. I assume you know how the combo of having a nice voice and knowing how to use it is powerful. I still think it's a big loss for SM and GG. But, oh well. The past is the past. Still go to memory trip from times to times to listen to this signature sound of GG: Taeyeon x Jessica harmonization. Technically, Taeyeon can cover her perfectly. Obviously. But Jessica's unique voice is what feels missing here. Seohyun is the best in this because she changes her tone to cover other members' part. Yes, all of them have their own color. And the part like in Hoot, fits Jessica's color and her way of singing the most (or we tend to think like that because we hear her singing it first). For a group performance, I think changing her tone to cover other members' parts is a plausible thing to do. It was *indeed* a temporary replace. And she did a good job doing it. If she covers the (whole) song her style, I would love to hear how she sings it in her style and her normal voice.

I really like it when Seohyun covers Jessica's parts esp the adlibs in Gee. It's much better than Tiffany covering it. I dont hate Fany but I think Seohyun's voice is more suitable to cover Jessica. 💕

They all have great voices and I really like Seohyun's cute effort keke! It's just that not all of them can pull each other's tone and line in the song, that is why they are 9 girls each have unique voices. Yuri didn't sang badly, she just has a really low and husky voice in comparison to Tiffany's and they both have different execution. Soshi fight fight!

Wow, this goes to show that their parts are nearly made for them. Most of them did really well covering each other, but you could notice how some of them had a lot of trouble going deep or high enough to hit the notes. They all handled it really well though!

For your information, Taeyeon didn't cover for Jessica during the boys because probably she was sick (if you watched that full performance and listen carefully, Taeyeon was the only one who lip synced). Since I'm a long time sone, I can tell and guess if Taeyeon is lip syncing or not, by looking at her face expression, lips and voice difference. Anyway Seohyun did well in covering all member's parts. Same goes to Sica! :) Tiffany did well too but not during the boys because she has a high pitch voice. :)

Like thousand years later. Literally, Sunny is one of the best vocalists of SNSD, she is very capable to do high notes and low tones too. I expect some people apreciate her vocals more in the new sub-unit of SNSD. Even TY said she was one of the best vocalist. Tiffany really strained a lot her voice, but if you listen now, doing her solo carreer, she managed well low notes and high notes, but she said that she doesn't know how to treat well her voice in SM, and now she cares a lot of her voice, also, she has nodules.
